OK, found you, but the "latest post filters' still need some calibration.

So I'm doing something different this campaign.

I had intended to do the Polish Lancer, but when I opened the box I discovered that I had already started him so he's disqualified

Well, I've started my Airfix F84 Thunderstreak. I bought the kit off e-bay and the seller had taken most of the parts off the sprue so there was some tidying there. He had already stuck the drop tanks and front splitter plate together, the latter of which needs tidying as the parts have a slight misalignment. There are some small areas of flash, ejection pin marks on nearly every part and sink marks on the ejector seat. On the plus side the detail is good especially in the cockpit but strangely, despite a detailed instrument panel and good seat, minus belts, there is no joystick. The design allows weight to be added in the nose but I'm not sure how much will be needed yet or if I will have it 'flying' as these old kits included the clear stand.

The decal sheet has yellowed slightly but maybe I will not be using them, instead I have one of my late Uncles Modeldecal sheets with a Dutch Thunderstreak and hopefully I will be using that. I may also use decals for the side panels.

That's it for now, Happy building

Well, I intend to start here. Airfix F-5A Freedom Fighter, a 1994 boxing of a 1966 mold.

Just have to figure out how to mark it as a USAF version.

Hi all,

I'll be making this beastie, apparently it's from around 1966 - and looking at the moulding and detail I can well believe it!

Strangely... Even unbuilt it has a slightly menacing air about it.

Oh that one's great! It looks really impressive when it's built up. It positively looms in a menacing manner over the nearest Lancaster or Hallibag

I agree with Jessica those Short Stirlings were massive Aircraft, they couldn't fly as high as the Lancaster or Halibag making them very vulnerable to german Flak but they were just as capable an aircraft as their more famous cousins even if their service ceiling was a tad on the low side. They soldiered on till 1943 when they were withdrawn to second line duties towing gliders and training aircrew.

I'm rethinking my Stuka strategy not sure yet if it might be a bit to ambitious for the given time frame and my current low build speed. I'll continue to think it over..... I have a 1/48 scale Bf109-F that might fit the bill ...... then again... the Stuka does look mighty good!

It could be better. The horse is moulded in two halves plus a separate face and ears. There are some gaps where the plastic shrank, but they're repairable. The worst part was cleaning up the mould seems in the horse's 'armpits' and on the backs of its legs. I didn't want to scrape too hard for fear of creating unrealistic flat spots. Luckily the big ugly seam up its backbone is almost completely covered by the mane, saddle and straps which get added on.

Not making any progress on this one I've got the kit out looks at the parts but just haven broken out the tools. I've been trying to figure out to fake the markings. I really don't want to use the Iranian markings in the kit. But the airframe did end up in friendlier hands for a while...

Good afternoon all,
As there seems to be a bit of a Napoleonic theme to this round of Airfix II, I am in with a British Coldstream Guard 1815.

I remember building it as a kid. Andy is right in saying don't use the plastic card I too seem to remember dissolving plastic. Lets see how we get on.

Good luck to you all with all your builds.

Martin

You could do it in RCAF markings for example. There are some nice options available

Some really cool projects here. Love the diversity.

You are making great progress Jessica. That Dragoon will look good once finished.

@ Richard Mark and Murdo great looking aircraft.

@ Andy... That is lovely... Is it a functioning model as well? Does it come worked open like that?

@ Keith... Curious to what you choose. Either look like interesting projects.

@ Martin. Pretty cool figure. Looking forward to that.

I still can't start... I have several other Airfix kits in the stash... But there is only one that I really want to built. And I don't have it in my possession yet. But man I look forward to start that 1904 Mercedes

Thanks Jess, I'm mostly inspired now. I found some RCAF decals that would work. Now I'm down to the refueling probe. I may just ignore that.

They were removable, and they very often flew without them
