It's definitely a different skillset and mindset than our usual modelling. I have to admit that I'm still finding my way within the dark art of figure painting

Can I suggest you give the face a dab of Flesh Wash to help pick out facial details. You can also consider dry brushing highlights on the top of the nose, cheeks and chin. That is if you haven't considered it already

Well a little further on with the Whirlwind, I have to admit though that my modelling mojo has been severely absent of late and that finishing anything is becoming a real struggle. Not to sure why hopefully the new year will bring a revival! Still progress has been made! Here are some pics to show what's been accomplished.

I'm nowhere near finished with his face, nor the rest of his clothes. Washes and highlights are going to happen

Good luck with that Jessie, I find that figure painting remains the most daunting for me of all of the various modelling disciplines.

What tidying up Warren? Lol this is tidy compared to what it usually is! But in all honesty Warren I've got so many projects on the boil that I need to finish some and clean them out of the way.

Now that we have a whole New Year waiting, it's the time to begin my building here, and nothing better that one of my very, very first models, as you can see by the remnants: the Bloodhound missile. I got very fond memories of this, as also it was one of my first attempts to make a diorama.

Happy New Year, and happy (modelling) hunt!

Javier

Neat, it even comes with it's own Land Rover (Defender 110?).

How dare you,Sir? Nothing about a Defender!
The old Land Rover 88, and also included are five figures and a guard dog. (Cautious chaps, those Airmen...)

Nice kit, and a personal (and easy) challenge: to show how my skills have improved in 40+ modelling years.

Regards
Javier

Actually Mark it is way before the Defender. As Javier typed it is actually an '88', which is the length of the wheelbase in inches and how Land Rover used to designate their models. I remember I has a Series 2A Station Wagon for a while and it was unstoppable off-road due to having a 4.4 litre V8 installed in the engine bay rather than the six cylinder.

@ Javier, I remember building one of those back in the 1970s. How have the moulds stood up?

I was at least familiar with tie between the wheelbase length and name. But thanks to Richard Hammond, I only knew of the 110. Didn't realize that they weren't terribly old...

Dealing with the body, boosters and Land Rover right now, Warren. It seems not too bad, but time time does't forgive. I'll post some pics soon. And I'll try to compare old and new build.

Its OK mate, after a closer look at your post I see it is an old boxing. Don't even know if it has been re-issued.

If you are listening Mr Airfix a 1/35 set would be awesome, especially if it had RAAF markings included...

Hi all-
I've just enlisted after discovering this campaign about 15 minutes ago. I just started an old Airfix kit a couple of days ago...I really don't have that much done yet, so I hope it's OK that it's not 100% incomplete...more like 98% incomplete.

So, here's my contribution to the campaign: a 1976 issue Lufthansa Boeing 737. All I've done thus far is start to fill in the cabin windows and doors, and I've sanded off all the raised panels lines from the wings, stabs and engines as I will be rescribing them.

The original kit decals have become fused to the tissue cover they came with, so they are toast. Besides, they are rather inaccurate. In their place, I'll be using an aftermarket set from F-DCAL.
