One of my favourite Airfix OO/HO kits!
Now if they could bring out the 5.5in gun in 1/35 it would great behind the AFV Club Matador.
There was a 5.5 outside the guardroom at Topcliffe, I should have got pics while I could. I think I should be able to build this, I have 4 others, one a tanker. Still this one will be different, I intend to weather it, none of the others are. I have never weathered an AFV before, indeed I have only ever built the Airfix ones as background to other models like the LCTs.

More work on my Polish Lancer I have base coated the horse with Tamiya hull red and used oils to try and get a sort of chestnut colour and have started to base paint the rider head and saddle.

over the course of this week I've been getting this kit painted, but first heres the last bit of p/e to go on, some nicely detailed radiator faces-
and now the fun part! I first pre-shaded anywhere I felt could benefit from line enhancement
the next step was to paint on the yellow I.D. stripes on the front of the wings.
this was then masked as was the fuselage sky band
masking and blutac sausages then ensued!
nearly done!
and after today's session. I've got a couple of coats of clear on and might even get some transfers on later.

I'm jealous, that was always an attractive aircraft, and I liked the model, yours looks spot on

Greetings one and all.
Well I have secured a new job in Adelaide, South Australia, and will be living in a caravan for a fair while so my model making will be restricted to relatively small models, not because of the van being tiny but due to lack of any storage space for completed models.
Having said that I am calling my Bentley finished and the experience I have had with this one I will put to good use when I start Number 8 so I have both team cars from their Le Mans campaign.
I am not using the Airfix Bonnet straps as I don't trust the material they are made from not to dig into the plastic.
Cheers all
Warren

Thanks for that Keith.
I will be building small area stuff, by that I mean things that do not take up much room when they are finished, like 1/35 targets.. although 1/12 cars don't take up too much room either really.
Cheers

Thanks for that Russell.
It has taken 7 months but it is good to be going back to work. Luckily no exposure to the car plant closures in my field.
Cheers

That is without a doubt the most impressive model of the campaign!
Suggestion for the bonnet straps: Try really thin naugahyde from the fabric shop. It looks like leather, and ought not to eat into the styrene. Failing that, what about wine bottle foil?

That is a huge compliment coming from the Queen of the Kitmaker Network! Thanks Jessica..
I have thought about it alot and I think possible the best way is to use the same stuff that HGW use for their seatbelts. It is a sort of paper-like substance and is the right colour for what I need.
I am sure someone else will finish something even better in the months ahead.
Cheers for now

good moaning everyone,
originally from 1966 is the P-47D thunderbolt, I have the reboxing as a starter kit.
will be making a quick start as there isn't much time left.
also, can I scratch a basic cockpit? not sure if its allowed
please excuse me if the pic doesn't come up, it's my first go
james.

Good moaning to you too James. (I haven't heard that for the longest time)
If you want to add a scratch built cockpit to such a dodgy model go right ahead!
Cheers mate

Hi James,
Welcome to Kitmaker Network! Yes, scratchbuilding and/or aftermarket to replace and supplement kit parts is permitted. I do want to keep an "out of the box" flavour, but not limit anyone to just what's in the box if their model is below standard. The most important rule is to have fun and you can't have fun if you're frustrated at your kit

thanks both warren and Jessica,
i'll try and keep the scratching to a minimum of the floor and maybe the walls.
now, to find out just how to put up photos, this HTML/BB stuff is to complicated for me .....
james.

Oh, I thought this F-5 kit was like cod liver oil, it tastes horrible, but it's good for you.
Pictures are a bit simpler than you my think. The site preference seems to be have someone else host your pics. Photobucket, Fliker or others. I use Photobucket, I clean up the pics on my computer, upload them to PB. I can them go to PB, copy a "share Handle" that has all the html/bb/img/eieio overhead included and just paste it into a post.
Having done that, you may want to consider using your storage host's tool to reduce the size of the file to a more web friendly size. Posting photos to the Kitmaker galleries for campaigns and contest gets a bit fussy if the files are over a certain size.

Now then, the horse is more or less done. I'm really happy with the muscle tone. The eyes will be really important to get right, as the horse is supposed to be galloping into battle.
... as you can see in the second picture, which is what I've been working from. As for the Hussar riding the horse, most of the base coats are on, and the shading and blending is about to begin. I'll be leaving the flesh tones until the very end (something I've always done), so the Hussar and Johnny Frenchman will be finished at the same time.

update time!
since the last time I posted I've got the whirlwind fully decalled, however the colour of the letters, when seen in real life is quite a bit more green than the paint I used on the spinners and fuselage band (the band is supplied as a decal, but I find it easier to mask and paint them)
what I will do is to lightly paint over the letters with some of the sky colour, here I have painted over the "F" and whilst its hard to see in this photo, it does tone the lettering in with the rest of the colour scheme.
and then onto the landing gear, up until now I have had the gear doors in place for painting by simply putting a blob of blutac in the well, and pushing the door onto it, to make painting the undersides that much easier.
now these doors, if just glued to the edge of the opening will be really flimsy, so what I have done is to drill a small hole in the edge of the door, and this is where the out of scale thickness of the piece works in my favour-
also you can see where I have thinned down the other three sides
then I glue a piece of wire in there
and then just glue it through a hole I made in the nacelle edge. when set its quite a sturdy joint and allows me to easily make adjustments to the door's fit.
the finished product! now i just need to get the other side and the tail wheel done, then i can think about a matt coat then aerials.

Update :-
On the final stages now, all the bits that get knocked off to go,all guns so far have survived much handling.the decals were horrible all out register so had to trim them to remove a white edge around one side {as you may notice on bomb decals}.
