Nice work on the Tri-Motor Warren. The Endeavors looking good. Those carved heads are little odd. When I first saw that post I honestly believed that's what Airfix passed off as the kits crew

My Orion is more or less complete as far as glueing plastic is concerned. I added some cut offs of sprue to the inside of the fuselage to reinforce it and stop it bending inwards. When those were dry I glued on the bottom.

Now for all the fun of filling and sanding and filling.......

I switched tracks from my Hawker Typhoon construction to a project I needed completed prior to a model railroad show. I will build the Airfix, Dapol turntable for this campaign. I started work on Sunday and have gotten to the painting weathering stage.

After appyling chalk weathering to the base I had an incident with a cup of spilled Earl Grey tea.

I thought the same thing mate although those heads are much larger than the ones on the supplied crew members.

Space liner is looking very good. I have never been 'into' kits of those sorts of things.

I never knew Airfix made a turntable for model trains. Learn something new everyday.

I am off to mask up the deck of the Endeavour for the next layer of paint.

Cheers all

Here is a link showing the turntable original boxing. http://airfixrailways.co.uk/TurnT.htm
It was released in 1961 as part of their track side series.

Brent, that is a great idea showing the original boxing. Here is the one for the Endeavour

and here is one for the Ford

I have that boxing as well in the stash but I don't think it will be built.

The description of "His Majesty's Bark" confused me, because it's plainly obvious that Endeavour was a full-rigged ship. I had to look at the Wikipedia article to clear up the issue: "The refitted vessel was commissioned as His Majesty's Bark the Endeavour, to distinguish her from another Endeavour already commissioned in the Royal Navy, a 14-gun sloop."

Cheers Warren. I like to do a bit of SF modelling now and again, it makes a nice change of pace.
Brent, always good to see something a little different. Is the turntable designed to be motorized or could it be adapted easily?

On the subject of original box's here's the Orion's. Again no mention of the movie is made.

Hi everyone, just a quick update on my chipmunk build, I've decided to drop the dehavilland comet as I want to give it a proper go and will need more time to do this.

I have since progressed a little further attaching the flaps in a flaps down position, I have got it to the prime and paint stage, so I'll upload pics once this is done.

On the subject of original boxes, here's how the 737 showed up on hobby shop shelves way back in the ancient days of 1969:

Can I enter with this?

Whilst the box is new and I think new decals were issued, the kit itself seems to stem from around 1959 (and boy, does it show!).

I'll make it in RN Fleet Air Arm colours.

That's cool. A lot of the new ones seem to lack a lot of the drama and excitement. They're getting better though.
One of my favorites is the artwork for the S-3 Viking.

It really does capture the excitement of a busy carrier deck and screams BUY ME! I have an original boxing of this kit and I'm in two minds about building it or keeping it.

Hi Murdo,

Yours would be the third Gosling in the campaign. Remember that you have barely 2 1/2 weeks left. If you feel up to a speed build, then you're welcome to join : )

Thanks Jessica,

One speed build coming up. Actually, I'd browsed this thread a few times but didn't realise just how old the Airfix Gosling kit was, being in a new box etc.

Anyway, build started...

Oh dear, big mismatch here:

Added a 1mm shim between the engine sides and looking better now.

Canopy stuck out about a mm on each side so attacked it with the raspy stuff. The culprits:

Looks like nothing will ever be seen through here again:

But, after a good polish and a coat of New Klear:

It's not brilliant (still slight scratches) but more than good enough in 1/72. The gloss and clarity entirely depends on the amount of work put into the polishing.

Fit issues on all the windows:

Getting there...

Drat, I haven't got any Dark Slate Grey paint!

Better to catch that now instead of just before you want to paint it...

Jessie, looks like I may have to beg indulgences for the extended completion. I'm taking an off site assignment for the next year. Since I'll be on my own, no family along. I may get nothing done or enter the most productive modeling phase since I started high school too many years ago.

It's okay, you've had your fun building, which is the most important part of the campaign
I'll keep the thread live and hand out your ribbon when you get your shipment of round tuits sent in.

I have made some progress on the Endeavour

Am in the process of making the 12 shrouds for the masts. Remember I am doing this totally OOB so I am using the rigging thread in the box as well.. Oh wait a sec I used Ezy-line for the mast rigging so it had a bit of give come time for the inevitable house move. So it looks like it is not totally OOB.. Oh well...
Cheers

I was hoping you'd get to finish that one, Steph. It's got so much character it deserves to be among the finishers

Wow Martin, I think I built all of those kits out of the original plastic bags with the paper headers! In those days they cost 1s 10d (proper English coinage) or about 9p in todays money (13 cents US, 13.8 cents Canadian.........)
