There is no conferring and overuling by the linesmen, is there?

There is WHEN they speak the same language - one of the problems in the WC has been lack of communicative ability between the match officials. UEFA's policy is ALWAYS to use Referees/Linesmen from the sma country in teams of four... Opposite to the FIFA (PC/ Multi-Culti) policy...

The man with the wistle has the final say and will oftern over rule the lines man!

Yea, I think it's pretty silly to have only one official for the whole field. Should be two, one for each half of the field. I also think they should start handing out yellow cards for the theatrical diving and carrying on, if they did it would help keep the game on track. Get up and run after the referee to complain and you get a warning of no complaining and then you get tossed. Will bring more discipline to the game and I think you'd see more guys staying on their feet not on their backs carrying on. Replays I completely agree with as well as allowing coaches a challenge.

Are we on some kind of different Time/Space reality here?

In football, there are FOUR match officials, the two linesman are actually referees. The fourth is a reserve and to keep things controlled at the team dug-outs..

Replays - get serious. Fouls? Same comment... No, I don't think NFL padding for 'keepers will be acceptable either...

The game ISN'T (as some seem convinced) in crisis, there's a need for improvements, yes. No complaining? Get outta here! :-)

4 officials but it doesn't matter since there's one referee and his say is final, which is why it would be good to have 2 referee's in my opinion. Works fine in hockey when the NHL added an additional referee to work along the other referee and 2 linesmen, more eyes helps play and that's for 12 players on a smaller surface than the 22 on a football pitch.

Replays I think should be a non-issue in todays sports where necessary, it should be used. We have the technology, it should be used. Again just my opinion. No need for NFL padding for keepers, it just would look too funny. It would make for a memorable picture tho! lol

What do you mean? I my opinion the Germans and the French played a fair game until today. Just have a look at their yellow cards - they don`t have much.

"Practising penalties? that's for losers" - Sven's coaching maxims No. 342

What to do with those unwanted flags?

And yes, Thierry Henry send Brazil to hell, with the help of our magician : Zizou. He did a great match ! No brutality, speed or comedian style for him. Just technique !!!!

The comment was at the ref's who seem to want to be the 12th man on a few teams at this world cup! The way the Germans are playing, I think it's pretty safe to say that Germany has won it's 4th world cup!

Do you speak about Ronaldo and is not friendly way to treat friend ?
On one hand, you play for your country first and then your club. And it's specially true for POrtugese. But on the other hand, they seems to "been" friend. Last, anyway the referee was next them and in any case the red card was given, even without the Ronaldo complaint.
But don't worry, we will make him pay.....

Both Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo play for Manchester United - at the moment anyway, Ronaldo is angling for a transfer to Real Madrid. Internal politics at Real Madrid may put a stop to that though.

Ok I get it.
Frankly, I don't fear portugese for their game (technically), but more for their game (theatrically), a little less than the Italians which for me are the best actors in the world.
Anyway, what is your pronostic for the tonight match ?
I think Germany will win, but no more than one goal will be score in the match.
What's your pronostic ?
Best,
Uber alles Deuschtland - Forza Italia and of course Vive la France !

England out...what can I say .

Overall I think its been a good world cup so far. The hosts have done a brilliant job with the organisation. Great stuff.

As far as England goes or is it gone (?)...
There were some good or even great performances by individual players, but England just did not play as a team. Tactically it was bad. Easy to see in hindsight, but going with only 4 recognised strikers, two of which not truly match fit was a mistake. Playing with one up front was not clever. We just didn't play to our full potential.
Owen Hargreaves did a fantastic job wherever he was asked to play in my view. Carrick shone also in the one match he had.

I think David Beckham has been a fantastic captain off the field. A great ambassador, but on field it just didn't happen. He has not had a truly great game since being made captain.

France had a very quiet start but have improved with each game and must now have a good chance of the title, but I fancy Germany. They are playing as a team in every respect.

Normally at world cups a few new or underestimated players burst on to the scene to become the next stars, but this time it has not happened.

Cheers and good luck to the 4 teams that are still in it.

Peter

Very diplomatic Peter!
I on the other hand want Germany or France to win, but not at the expense of each other... Portugal as a distant 3rd and Italy not rating a mention... Apologies to any Italians not in an azzuro shirt...
I believe Germany is die team to beat...

:-)
oh I can be when it suits...
but at times I have a habit of saying the right thing at the wrong time .

Like you Bradley, I can't make my mind up which, France or Germany.
But as I had a very good flight back to Saudi with Lufthansa, I'll go with Germany....
ah well ...all this sitting on the fence was putting a painful crease in my underpants.

Cheers

My congartes to Italia !!!!

It was a good, hard and in my opinion, a fair play. Our team fought a good fight, but the italian team was better !!!

There is no cause to be sad for us - the Germans gave all they had - and so we only have to be proud about this guys.

I´m looking forward to see the next games and I hope we will see the same fairplay, too.

Cheers,
Markus

..ybee the Portugal is a solid team, but France has experience and we stay humble as we went from a long way since 1998...
Zidane will take his retirement after this cup and I bet he wants to show us he is the best player despite his age..
May the best win
ps : I also really don't like la squadra azurra. Despite the fact my granfather was Italian, they too often make comedy to gain faults>. I hate that !
Best, Julien

Julien, mon ami
I have no problem to France or Zidane. No matter for me if France or Portugal wins. I still remember the match he played vs Brazil in 1998,i agree he is one of the best and deserves all but World cup is too much for anyone as a retirement prize even for Zinedine who has already won 1 world cup,1 Eurochampionship,2 world club cup,1 European Super cup,1 Euro champions league cup and 3 FIFA world player of the year awards...Ma...ybe Luis Figo having the same age as Zidane can be more happy with this cup as a retirement award.

My grandfather was no Italian but I like La Squadra Azurra as a mediterrenean and I have a little son as a crazy fanatic of Del Piero.it takes too long to calm him down when Italy have bad results.

Good luck for tomorrow my friend.
best regards

At least Man U should make a bit more money on the deal!
