That's crazy. You can't wear logos of companies that are not sponsors???

Sure you can. But a thousand fans all in orange branded outfits are a different matter.

Sorry to digress, but what are people's thoughts on the 3 yellow cards given to the Croat defender? If Australia had have lost, would this have been enough grounds for an official protest? I'd like to think so

Just my 2 cents...i think that the both the Croation and the Aussie side were hard done by with alot of bad decisions from the ref.The first foul on Viduka in the box was clearly a red card and a shot at goal...obviously the ref didn't have his glasses on!The second hand ball towards the end of the match was more noticeable than the first and the ref didn't see that one !Incidently, both hand balls were from the same player..maybe he plays a bit of basketball on the side?!
As for the yellow cards and the general refereeing of the match it seemed that the ref had no clue on how control a game.I think that the ref tried to make up for his mistakes with the Aussies in the first half by giving them some freebies in the second.I hope that last nights game was his last at top level.Actually i think the only thing that he'd be capable of doing is handing out the oranges and water at half time!!:-)
Anyway heres a round from the Kiwi for the Socceroos
Cheers,Shay

US midfielder Pablo Mastroeni, had this to say about the refereeing in the World Cup: ``The way the game is going, they're going to outlaw slide tackling, we're not going to be able to talk to the refs, we're not going to be able to touch each other. Soccer will become a nice family, Disney experience." . . .

If we would have lost that would have been it! There still is grounds for a official protest, it won't do much!

Yeah, you might as well write to your congressman about it, for the good it'll do. Did you see that offside goal against the Koreans? The linesman had his flag up and all.

Someone else who agrees that the Brazilian referee in the game between Germany and Sweden were a bit too biased?

Smiling while giving a player red card is not very nice... And especially not when he should not have had it...

In all fairness to the referee, they only get a couple of chances to make big money every four years! And it's not just the African ref's!
They need to remind FIFA, that we pay to watch the game, that is the football players, not the dick head with the wistle!
Too many games are being spoiled by interferance by the referee!

Gawd... Heinze should have gotten a red for the giveaway and subsequent studs up tackle...
More bad reffing decisions...
I think a trial of video replay should be introduced on an experimental level... not unlike the NFL did with the 3 challenges per game for theirs... Especially now, decisions will be more costly due to the sudden death scenario...

No more worries for the officials about the Orange Army trying to get in with 'non endorsed' sponsors apparell then...

seeing how Portugal have managed to get about half their team banned for the next game, England should have an easy stroll next Saterday...

Figo managed to escape suspension for his handbagging incident
Let off

Time for a video ref surely, cricket and rugby have managed to organise themselves, so why not football? Besides having the ref with a live mic would be extremely entertaining if the feed was broadcast

Why not football? Because it would make it harder to rig the outcome!
FIFA needs a shake up! or what happened to cricket will happen to football!

Well for all Australians (and football fans of WHATEVER nationality) yesterday's 'Italy has to go thru at ANY price', indicates just what a mess FIFA is presiding over.

I have (at least not since the last world cup) seen anything more blatantly fixed than the Italian penalty.

One thing which FIFA has been a little nervous of (although not saying too much about) has been the explosion in On-Line betting in the last year or two.

The money involved is astronomical and not, simply money which moves according to results - every possible permutation can be catered for, number of throw-ins, penalties, off-side decisions, etc. etc. So it's not (with the correct contacts) exactly impossible for a large betting syndicate to actually influence the result of a game.

Look at some of the weirder refereeeing decisions and think of some of the permutations..

Also, in the case of Italy, FOUR clubs, the head of their refereeing committee and a large number of individuals have been charged with match-fixing. Not in their federation, but in the Italian Justice system. Not perhaps a federation which has a good track record...Jim

Talking about FIFA, was watching the news, and they said that for the last England match, of 40,000 seats, less than quarter were reserved for English fans. More than double that were for corporate sponsors. They interviewed some of these suits outside the stadium, and of three interviewed, one said he wasn't a footie fan and couldn't give a toss who won, another (a woman) looked blank when asked about a particularly famous English player, and the third didn't even know if it was a knockout round. They shot the corporate stands just before halftime and 75% were empty -- either they'd gone home, or were in the bar. Meantime, outside, scalpers were selling tickets at 500 euros even 15 mins into the game. Hundreds couldn't get tickets.

Well.
To think I was giving the ref some kudos for letting the game flow and not blowing the whistle for every challenge that resulted in a player biting the turf... And then he goes and does THAT...
The fact he was 'Johnny on the spot' only yards away should have been indicative of the fact he would have clearly seen the dive OVER Lukas Neill... But no, the forthright way he went about awarding the penalty now seems have been a cover for any indecision... ie. his mind was made up before this...There was more at stake here than a reffing blue and my sour grapes...
I just hope Australia will be remembered not for the alleged view of them as a 'rough' team, but more a 'tough' team who did not indulge in the 'theatrics' which still to me prove to be an embarassment for other teams... Any subsequent enquiries into the WC reffing would hopefully yield a zero tolerance stance on 'diving', and yes, the introduction of replays for the ref HAS to happen at some point... Oh, did I mention a salary cap?

That would be a joyous day... I can just see D Beckham et al with tears in their eyes when the several Bently's, Ferrari's etc are dragged on the back of a (cheap) recovery truck... I mean what other talent does David have other than hooving a ball across the field. I mean, I'm not an avid footy fan, but from what I gather he's not going to earn his keep in a team dribbeling around a defence?

Not to go , but what with Hollland gone home and that.. ...
It never seaces to amaze me what people (or footy fans in this case) will fall for. £45 for a replica shirt.... wait, there's this saesons home shirt £45, away shirt £45, different home shirt £45, alternative away shirt £45 , matching shorts for the above...around £ 80 to 100... total tops £250 to £300. That's just the one person, if you have a few kit's you're done for. And how much is a season ticket nowadays? And make no mistake, the overfed, inbr..., suits in the corporate box are laughing at you, because they know that most of the fans era on minimum wages, fattening their shareholdings..

Sorry about the rant, please enjoy the rest of your worldcup. I wil be cheering for England on Saturday. And if any player could 'accidently' fall on top of Figo, that would make my day..

Cheers

Well if that's true then name some one who should take his spot! His "hooving a ball across the field" has got England into the next round!

Or drop an anvil on his head lol ( does Monty Python still use that oversized foot ? )

And I will remember Australia as a team that has made life difficult for Holland, Brasil and Italy. A welcome addition to the world top of football imho. ( and Australia should be ranked higher than they are now .. sure they will be after the world cup )

I'm sorry, I don't follow football much, so I have no idea who could replace him, but I'm sure there's somebody out there who can..
How to justify paying somebody (not just Beckham mind, I'm not singeling him out..) £100.000 plus is beyond me. I mean for that money he 'hooves' a ball across the field for 90 minutes a week.... sometimes even 180 minutes...
Average wages in Brittain £20.000 per year. Average Joe Bloggs works his proverbials off in a dead beat factory job, day in day out, for five years to earn what Beckham collects in a week....
No sorry, I think he's on a bit more than £100.000 a week now?

Still, the market forces of supply and demand can't be argued with

Cheers
Henk
