I've got about 70 stored in plastic tubs under the house.

12 under the bed in the guest bedroom and the 6 or 7 on the work table upstairs.

Yeah, I think that does it.

Wow.

I've got a lot of kits to build....better get cracking!

Okay - for those who think I'm crazy... #:-)

My collection blossomed with my hobby business. So much so that I moved the inventory out of the house (condo) because we didn't have the room. My wife is a semi-pro crafter and she had to do the same with her gear.

The place we live in now is nice, but not much bigger. I went "IKEA-style" and came up with cabinets to store all my equipment in, making my workshop look more like a den or a library. We've got a good collection of books too and she likes to hang out in my workshop to read as much as I do. I made it as "foo-foo" and as comfortable as possible to invite her into my domain.

Sooo - being the great wife she is - she's come to the conclusion that we really need a larger place so that I can move my inventory back into easy reach. Now we're about to put down a deal on a four bedroom home this weekend - so that I can have a storage room and a separate workshop with a Guest Room to spare for my really cool Mother-in-Law to come and hang out with us.

The Master Plan worked!

Now - I'm planning on purchasing a GoodYear Wrangler tire to keep in the new garage if all goes well. Why? Well, because I'll need a SUV to use my tire on...

Gunnie

Never thought you was crazy Gunnie not with the good work you do!
BTW checking out your M-10 on your site real close so if you see a lot of activity their it's just me lurking around looking at that thing to get ideas on how to finish Mine!!
So no MP police Okay!!

And I keep buying....nuts.

I'm not really sure how I should count my "stash".... I only have 1 or 2 kits that I haven't started on AT ALL (the traditional definition of a "stash")

BUT I do have a LOT of projects I've given up hope on completely in the early stages due to some catastrophe or just plain laziness, or that haven't really taken off yet, most of them airplanes or helicopters... #:-) Counting these "guilty" kits, my stash is still relatively small (about 10-15, at most), but for a new modeler that only has 20-25 kits, that's a lot!

Between kits, figures, aftermarket and dio accessories boxes I have around 60. Approximately 35% of these have been bought second hand ánd even a few of those are a little bit started. This is the maximum I want. It bugs me that so much money is tied up waiting. What I buy new is what I really want, what I buy second hand is because of the bargain. I also have about 6 kits on the workbench. Hopefully this will be my max amount of kits ....... but the sad thing is, 2 years ago my max was 20 and last year my max was 50!
The number 100 keeps flashing in my head for some reason. #:-)

I have about 250 kits and more on order! As I am now 62 years old, I figger the old lady will have one hell of a yard sale when I'm gone!

Unfortunately, the model companies keep issuing some really neat models, so I'll keep buying the durn things while I can. I told the wife to put a couple in the box whith me when I go! And not to forget the clippers, exacto knife and glue!

I had a fun childhood because my farther owned a construction business and I worked for him every summer since I can remember. I made 3-4 thousand each summer and it was spent all on models I keep a hobby shop in business one year because my dad had alot of state jobs which paid 30-50 dollars and hour.So that ment by the time I was the age where girls where fun I stopped so I think I had about I don't know couple of thousand models. My MOM will NOT go to the hobby shop with me ANY MORE niether will my WIFE. When the owner of the hobby shop died his wife asked me to be a pallbear for her husband.I used to stay there for hours. But when I got married I had to sell most of them to buy my house .I had a $19,000.00 dollar down payment and that was selling them on the internet and in mag's for 1/2 off for a few months.

My mom's basement was the lengh of the house and I took up aleast 1/5 of it I just like the feel of tearing the wraper off . At that time I bought everything I could armour to wooden ships. But only built ships because my grandparents were in the navy and I heard alot of stories of WW2, Kerea, Vietnam.

Now since I found this site and got back into modeling again, I have renewed my interest in armour and military stuff. Since I am disabled and basically retired. And back into the hobby I have 20-30 kits here and about 50-100 of the old revell kits at my mom's house like those old revell ones where the plastic was thick and they looked like toy army men you see kids today play with.

My wife gives me a $150.00 allowence a week for watching my daughter and picking her up from school. So soon I will be up there with some of the big boys again. I have a shed in the backyard that is 12x13 and my wie said it's all mine. I have my own room to do what ever I want to do in down here and up north it's the basement is mine.

Happy :-) Modeling

I have decided that my collection will pay off the house after I die. I am rapidly approaching 600 kits, icluding those that are in progress, temporarily halted, etc. In that collection are about 75 OOP vauform kits of 'tween-wars" aircraft, and 25-30 diferny variations on the M113. You can't have too many M113 FOV kits

Man, you guys are hardcore. The only time I find myself with an unbuilt kit waiting in the wings is when I need motivation to put the last details on a kit that I've stalled on.

Copper, Pay close attention, Sir. You are not "collecting." You are simply a modeler with a LARGE DATABASE. You'll eventually build them all, and you'll get extra years from Saint Peter just to complete them. Ain't it fun to go back and find stuff you didn't even know you had??!!

Current inventory is 49 kits with four in progress. I have decided to finish off part of my basement (so I will have a warmer place to build in the cold months) so progress has slowed on both building and buying. I am always on the look out for more mainly on e-bay now.

I'm up to about 25-30, about ten in some stage of building. Once i get to the time consuming parts, I usually have to putone to the side, and work on something else, until I have some time to get down ot work.

I'm so relieved that I'm not the only one who doesn't complete projects! Once I figure out how to custom-make buildings, I'll be able to finnish 4 of em!

My current count is about 20 in the box (mainly figuresand armor) and 6 in various levels of completion. Then again, I just graduated college, so as the paycheck gets bigger, so will the stash!

I don't count.

On top of my closet there is a space measured 2.5X2.5 x4ft. That is the space for my unbuilt plastic. You may want to count how many boxes there are, but some boxes contain more than 1 kit.

I put AM and resin everywhere, in every drawers in the house you will find 1 or 2 inside.

Yep, I have a huge stash too. SWMBO counted over 600 in the house last year, and that doesn't incluse the garage, basement or storage unit. She keeps telling me that I should pare down to a dozen kits, because at the rate I build, that's all I'll ever finish. (I'll have to live to be a really old guy to finish a dozen more kits!)

I actually bought out the plastic section of a hobby shop that was going out of business a few years back. I bought a couple hundred kits for a decent price. I decided to keep a few of them, and sell off the rest, along with a bunch of my extras that I knew I'd never build. I made plans to attend several shows and swaps, and started reserving vendor tables. I convinced her that this would be a good way to cut down the excess kits, and bring back a little cash. For the first show, we loaded the minivan up with kits, and set out for a weekend of selling models. We had 3 8' tables for two days, and we had people dropping by the hotel room most of the night wheeling and dealing. As we were packing to go home, we realized that the models wouldn't fit back in the van the same way they did on the way there. She had to ride back with her suitcase under her feet, and a few kits in her lap and she was !

Turns out that I had sold quite a few models, but I still had to use the visa card to buy gas to get us home because I had bought a few more kits than we sold. WHen she saw the VISA bill next month, and realized that there was another $400 in charges to vendors on the card, she was

For some strange reason, I never got to take my part time model selling business on the road to any more shows. Even my E-bay attempts to thin my collection have been a bit less than stellar. So far for '04 I have sold 21 kits, and bought 19... Hey! It's progress.

THe one advantage of a stash as large and spread out as mine is that she doesn't know that I just bought three more kits at the local craft store and slipped them into the mix after I rearranged a couple of shelves. So far, I'm up one kit for the year.

so SHHHHHHH! don't tell!

Dave

Sounds like some haft to buy their glue in the fifty-five gallon drums, I just got a box full of cars, I never had excess to military models before, and now that I know how to get to some of these model sites and stores on the computer, I'm buying some out of production Italeri pretty cheap, so this will be the first time I ever bought ahead, I just only bought then finished then bought another. All the places to buy models around here wouldn't have that good of a selection. I had to leave town to just get liquid glue, around here they don't even know it exsists just tube glue, and a handful of Testors 1/4 oz. paints for cars that have been there forever. The one I had the most fun building was that 1/10 scale R/C Clod Buster that I ordered through a catalog, and took me a couple days to build, but I'm going to really enjoy building military models, and with all the help from the friendly people here at Armorama , I shouldn't go wrong.

My stash isn't very big, but it's growing rapidly. Since I've only recently re-started, I only had a couple of kits sitting around. Then last Sunday I hit the hobby store and came home with 4 kits. Then I went to Fry's Electronics and noticed that they had a pile of Tamiya kits for some reason, at a fairly significant discount compared to the hobby shop, so I bought 8 of those. Then on the way home I was magnetically attracted to a garage sale, where I picked up 5 more boxes, mostly older Testors kits.

For a couple of these that I just got I need to go back to the hobby shop to get some accessory kits, which will probably lead to the whole cycle starting over again.

Up untill very recently I only kept around 20-25 kits plus some resin and plastic figs "in Stock". But by chance I came upon an estate sale and I ended up purchasing the entire stash for and insanely low price. Now my collection is into the Hundreds of kits and absolutely no where to keep most of em so watch for the list in the next couple of weeks as I take stock of everything.
cheers,

A while ago on this thread, I wrote this:

[quote]I haven't counted lately, but my stash has taken a dip in recent years -- probably fewer than 100 kits right now. Gosh, how could I let things get this lean??? [quote]

I mentioned to my wife that I thought I had less than 100 kits. She gave me one of those "You're crazy" looks and walked away. A couple hours later, she came back and told me she counted about 250 kit boxes in the garage and under the bench I meekly replied that I had gotten rid of many since last year ... even made a few dollars in the process (which I promptly spent on other stuff for myself). Later I realized that I had a file cabinet drawer full of metal, resin, PE and small plastic kits (mostly figures) that she isn't even aware of ... plus she doesn't know that many of those boxes in the garage contain more than one kit -- I did it to save space in the truck when we moved a few years ago

I'll have to change my "guestimate" to about 300. #:-)
