Thanks again Rob. Last time this thread went around Armorama you posted pictures of your stash. I showed Teal (Mrs. Keenan) and said "See, I don't have that many." After my last trip to Hobby Lobby during the 50% off sale Teal accused me of being a collector, not a builder. Oh, well.
I have well over 150 kits in the closet and at least 5 on the bench. You never know when you are going to get snowed in and just have a hankering to build one of the 4 Tammy Pershing kits you have on the shelf.
I would take a picture of the "Pile 'o Kits" but the closet is really messy and I have some really hideous ties hanging in there.

Since the very first time we talked about the (a couple of years back it seems) I showed pictures of my Ready Racks in my workshop. Since then - I moved and in doing so moved all that out of the house. Now they fill up two rental storage units. I'm well past the 400 kit mark - probably approaching 600 now. A good inventory system keeps me from unintentionally duplicating kit purchases, and keeping them out of the house makes the wife happy...

For me, it's a measly 52. Plus PE sets, a few figures and other AM kits/conversion sets.

Yeah, I've got alot for only just starting modeling the beginnig of the summer. Its hard when you see something really interesting and get it at the hobby shop or on line, and you are still working on one thing. Over time this continues and the pile grows larger, and larger, and larger more. I keep mine under my desk. I have about 20 boxes/kits: Armor-7 Figures-9 Diorama/Acessories-3. These are the kits that Havent been assembled. I hope to finish them all someday.

I have had the insanity of working on just one diorama (on and off) for over 10 years and nothing else! And it may not be done in time for the Regionals we're hosting this year!!!
That hasn't stopped me from buying additional kits and diorama accessories to the tune of almost $3,000 last year alone. Shame on me.

one day I will finish them all! when hell freezes over!
Hell, Michigan froze over last week and has been frozen for a while just to let you know
(Yes there really is a place in Michigan called Hell)
What I'm really posting about is something that I've just noticed.
This is an expinsive hobby for painting such little people!!
Why is it so expensive?

....Geeeeeeez guys, I thought I had a lot at about (now) 200 military kits. I've also got a store's load of sci-fi / collector kits, but that doesn't seem to compare........
All I know is if I had a Genie's Lamp, I'd rub it and wish to shop at either Rob's house, Gunnie's or TankCarl's!

Yo, Tankcarl. In the amount of time you spent typing out the list of kits, you could have built one!! #:-)

Me around the 200 kit mark maybe a little more if I count those built over 200.
I need to catch up with some of you but noway with Gunnie 400 to 600 the Old lady would hang me by my well you get the drift.
A rental building sounds good but what about the climate control here it goes up to 115 degrees in summer would have melted plastic bricks.
Goosh 400 kits would be nice.

200? 400? 600? You're crazy!!! Seems to me there's a lot of money wasted, you if excuse my opinion... I'm a beginner (I've started building seriously a year ago) and I already have 3 on my shelf-( which I think is too much), but I know very well that temptation to buy more and more, but my money isn't enough... so I don't buy... I also have other things to do, like sports, computers, reading and my family... but that's just my humble opinion

Mastyertyno,you have a point.
But I would feel bad if a kit came out,THAT I WANT,and I didnt get it ASAP.There have been a few kits I've had to wait for a reissue (and higher price) to get.I will build all of my stash..

Guys I feel inadequete. I only have 4 unbuilt kits. However I do have dozens of partials like figures kits where I only use 3 of 4 figures. I am going to have to start buying more kits just to keep up!

Reading all of the posts here I am starting to feel inadequate.... I think that I can honestly say that my wife would remove my testicles with a spoon if I had 1/3rd of what most of you have! I will admit, I am envious though! I think that I have a total of 7 unbuilt kits on the shelf at home and 2 on the bench.

I have about 400, not counting figures, accessories sets and the like.
When I got back in modeling I found the urge to bye any kit I had lost in the flood. I got a lot of "old" kits on ebay at high prices. If I had it to do over I would have concentrated on newer, better kits. Right now I buy what interests me, and my buying has slowed down. Most of what I want is to be released in the future. Also, after reading posts here, and on other sites, I have decided against buying certain kits. Now I rarely buy without doing some research.
But, this is a hobby, and I say if you can afford it, and it makes you happy, go for it.
Now you'll have to excuse me.....I need to run the the hobby shop.

Okay - for those who think I'm crazy... #:-)
My collection blossomed with my hobby business. So much so that I moved the inventory out of the house (condo) because we didn't have the room. My wife is a semi-pro crafter and she had to do the same with her gear.
The place we live in now is nice, but not much bigger. I went "IKEA-style" and came up with cabinets to store all my equipment in, making my workshop look more like a den or a library. We've got a good collection of books too and she likes to hang out in my workshop to read as much as I do. I made it as "foo-foo" and as comfortable as possible to invite her into my domain.
Sooo - being the great wife she is - she's come to the conclusion that we really need a larger place so that I can move my inventory back into easy reach. Now we're about to put down a deal on a four bedroom home this weekend - so that I can have a storage room and a separate workshop with a Guest Room to spare for my really cool Mother-in-Law to come and hang out with us.
The Master Plan worked!
Now - I'm planning on purchasing a GoodYear Wrangler tire to keep in the new garage if all goes well. Why? Well, because I'll need a SUV to use my tire on...

I've got about 100 armour vehicles,50 armour conversion sets,+/- 40 boxes of accessories like weapon and track sets +/- 50 figure sets and about 5-6 1/35 scale helos. I build alot faster these days so I'm doing about 15 kits a year.

I currently have between 700 and 800 models on the shelves. My justification for it is how fast the price goes up on some of these kits after they go out of production. I build when I can, but business keeps me too busy to do much there most of the time. Once I retire, then I can go nuts!
If I get the right price offered for a model, I sell it.

Gunnie snap, our offer on a new place was accepted this morning. I don’t get a room, I get the former coal ‘shed’. As the new place is a 3 storey ‘Town house’ the coal shed is just off the garage on the ground floor and measures roughly 12’ X 9’. The wife has been kind enough to even include a realistic budget for the conversion.
PS: I’ve only been back in the model game for a little over a year now!
