Ladies and Gents,

I'm just curious and want to see what do you do to keep bringing home the bacon.... and plastic.

For me, I'm a prop designer for trade.

I’m trained in construction.
Mostly carpentry but also have training in masonry, electrical, pluming, heating and ventilating, and refrigerator repair. (Yes that last one was required in my training for construction. I don’t have a clue why.)

As for what I’m doing I usually do odd jobs in construction and between them I do wood work and clean scrap metal.

I think I’m a little over qualified.

After three years in the army I studied fine art in college and somehow ended up as a professional actor for 18 years before going back to art. I now work as an arts facilitator with young people.

Professional boot drooling foundryman here. Came by it honest. Both my paternal grandparents worked in a steel foundry where they cast everything from Sherman turrets during WWII to castings for the USS Thresher. (That's a long story.) My father retired from the same foundry I work in and my brother still works there.

Proud to be actually making something on a daily basis, pouring about 160 metric tons of molten iron a day.

Link to the office:

Click contacts, Quality, yep, that's me...

Anybody that wants a tour and is in the area, let me know. It is trip seeing molten iron fly around like water.

I'm an IT Manager for a very large professional services firm (i.e. accounting and auditing). Don't know anything about bean counting, but I manage a small local team as well as on-site technology, as well as working on a national team responsible for managing voice technology (analog, digital & now VOIP).

Keenan's post brought back some fun memories of my summer job at the coke & iron plant. Walking the casting floor while they were pouring molds brings new meaning to "chestnuts roasting over an open fire".

I'm a Cold Headerman, 19 years...I make rivets. Master locks, finger nail clippers, tonka/hasbro, graco, evenflo, edsal, rapidrack, square d, fusetron, semi truck brake/clutch, golfbags, plano tackle boxes just to name a few...on anything from an 11/32 salvi, 1/4 salvi, 3/16 salvi, 1/8 salvi, 1/4 waterbury, 3/16 waterbury, 1/8 waterbury and 1/4 national. Did 1 year at burgess norton making wrist pins, wrist pin slugs and tappets; honda, chevy, ford, saturn{was a taper pin for added weight!}{don't recall any mopar orders readily}; ran on anything from a 250ton Taylor press, 500ton Taylor, 1000ton Taylor, 7/8" and 3/4" Salvi slug and the huge National 750c...RMG draw drum was taller then me and I'm 6'4". Heard Burgess Norton made powdered metal{plant 2...I was in plant 1} tank tracks back during the war{WWII}. We even make "pop rivet" rivets{sent out for drilling and pin}. Largest wire ran was for chevy wrist pins at 1.250" and all the way down to .030"{yeah, need an eye loupe for the eye loupe with those} and everything in between. Four ten hour days a week.

I started out swotting Accounts at 'varsity after being told that's what I want to be by the folks... after 2 years I'd had enough and couldn't picture myself doing that for the next 40 yrs... went off to the local Technikon (similar to a Polytech?) and studied IT systems with a dual major in accounts. Figured business systems would be a good way to go...

Ended up in the IT department of a dairy/fast-moving consumables company. After 10 months they decided not to renew my contract. Blessing in disguise I guess. Next I basically headed up the IT department of an airline cargo resources company for a 3 and a bit years, before moving to my current job.

I currently work as a software developer for an IT company - so I get exposure to different environments and industries. Doing mostly SQL Server 2000 stuff (and now 2005), as well as .NET development (VB & C#) for just over 2 yrs.

Recently got my bachelors degree of commerce (dual majors in IS and strategic/risk management) which I did via correspondence over the last 5 yrs. Also recently got my MCSD .Net.

What do I want to be when I grow up? No idea. :-)

Did a combined sciences degree, leaning towards biology/ecology which left me with a continuing interest in insects. Didn't fancy a career identifying species of grasses, so I became an archaeologist instead. Have mostly progressed beyond the digging stage into archiving and post-excavation/preparing reports.

One of my former co-workers is a writer and there are some familiar people thinly disguised in this book of his

Angel underground

But not me
