I'm starting fresh in modeling again. (Please forgive me for I have sinned)Its been about 10 years since i've quit. I live in the Kennedale area and I'm looking for quality diorama supplies. Any one got any good idea's on a first project? I've always been interested in the German troops of WW2

hiya jim,

welcome to the platoon!!!!!!!!!! hope ya are enjoying being back into models.

do you want supplies from local, or online, or by mail?

as for the genre of ww2, there are tons of em out there for ya to see.

look up hobby lobby online and sign up for their e mail lists. that way ya will get all their sales ads on sundays. there are always some sort of discount offered there. and sometimes they have the half off sales for plastic models and equipment.

online, i use e bay alot, and get some fine deals there, and there is always the ads here in the big A.

look forward to hearing more and seeing ya around

Jim the best shop near to you is Hobbytown. go to I-20 head east exit cooper north. after you cross over the Interstate you want to be in left lane turn left. at the first road go right then pull into that small shopping center go on down to the middle and you shoud see it on ground level. They have a pretty good selection of woodland scenics stuff. Jeith Magee (one of the members) makes super building pieces and such. As you may have read, we are trying to start up a little meeting group here in the south feel free to join in with us if you can. post here often and read as we go to contests and do some things together occasionally.

Thanks for the info. The support group sounds great as well.

Any one of you local boys have an old A.B. set up that they might want to trade for one of my old drafting tables? They make damn good work benches.

Hey guys - our daughter lives in Dallas and the wife and I were out there visiting the first part of December....I stumbled upon this old shop that has been open since the fifties in Arlington. Anybody know about M.A.L.
It ain't big but it was sure neat to talk with the owner and while I was there an older gentleman came in who had served as a crew member on B-17's in WW II. He was building a B-17F kit. Very cool talking with him.
Where else can I go to look up some models, etc. next time I come out that way?? Thanks in advance.

howdy rebelsoldier - just googled it.....seems I screwed up on location. MAL Hobby Shop is in Irving, TX. It's a really small place and not much to look at from the outside but I think the old man that owns it (along with his son who was out of town at a weekend show in Oklahoma City) said they have a stash of products from various estate sales that I could look at when his son was in town. Unfortunately I had to leave to head back to Georgia before I had that opportunity.....might have some interesting stuff in that stash? What I found interesting when I was there was reference material they had in stock for aircraft....noy sure if you're an aircraft guy. Just found out that I'm a brand new-first-time grandpa (yep, you guessed it - same daughter that came out to visit had herself a 7lb1oz little girl!!) a few minutes ago so I'll be headed back out in your direction first part of next month.

Happy modeling.

I think i'm going to build a 10-5cm Leichte Feldhaubitze 18/40 (105mm le FH 18/40) with a Wehrmacht squad. The dio setting will be based upon the 105's placing indirect fire on UTAH Beach. On the 6th of June 1944 in the vicinity of Le Gran Chemin, Normandy, France.

I found it! But its in another language that I havent mastered yet...

I'm not going to use a bunker. My thoughts are going to be that the 105mm is concealed in a hedgerow. Maybe with mg42 support on the flank. Of course there will be sandbags and empty shell casings W/ammo boxes. I belive that the 6th Fallshrimjager Regiment was attached to some of the gun batteries in this area for support . If i'm wrong someone please correct me as I need to have all of the piping and uniform colors correct.

These are all thoughts that I'm gathering before I start this project cause I'm still working on my work bench and gathering supplies.

try this one for more military models......

http://toys.listings.ebay.com/Models-Kits_Military_W0QQfclZ3QQftZ1QQsacatZ2586QQsocmdZListingItemListQQsotrZ1.........

dunno aboutr meeting yet, still being worked on.......

also reference the mirage dio's
i just ordered the polish invasion for the base alone, as i can' read polish either, i will have the models that came with for quite awhile...........the base is vacuform, but i can use it for a mold also. it has a river/creek crossing, and its an accurate 1/35 scale......good enough for me for the cost, and by useing it as a mold, i can make more than one base.................

Great idea ordering it for the base. That will take alot out of the base work for other Dio's.

Looks like I might be switching from a 105mm to a 88mm.......

I'm back at school. Should be a challenge with Civil Litigation, Probate, Torts, and Family Law. Superbowl is this Sunday. If anyone wants to come over we can have a "Who cares who wins" party. Can't get ahold of my old friend Gary. His brother several years ago managed a Domino's. He gave us a dozen half cooked Pizzas for our party. We would finish them in the oven and had hot pizza the entire superbowl. Jimmie and John brought beer and SUzie and the girls made 3 kinds of dip. Of course we had a slew of kids here (9) and the dog guarded the model room (he hated kids especially Chris and little Gary). That was a Cowboy year and one of the slaughters of the Bills

Hobby lobby sells a real nice aircompressor for around $125. Wait util they post one of those 40% off anythng coupons and pick that one up. I had picked up that Testors blue version for $75 and got the Hobby LObby for Christmas 3 weeks later and had gone back and fixed my original compressor. Still, won't use anything else but the new one. Has an on off switch a oppossed to pulling plug out of wall. Does automatic cutoff every few seconds if you are not spraying.

Got an email back from Ben. He's just hooked on one of those Quest computer games. They are quite challenging as I remember my wife getting hooked into one for several weeks.
