A Big Welcome aboard Amorama and the M'sian forum, Kaki Model to you Raemos and Han. We look forward to see and share your work and ideas. Mojimbo is right about the satu kepala thing as we all share a common and in most of the married modellers here, an obsessive love for models (the plastic kind of course)

Boss maybe you may have to transfer this and the earlier threads to the "Intro" section so it may seem less confusing.

CK,
This is what i'm dying to do know but this feature is not available to me as a moderator. We can only move the whole thread to another board not the specific posting/reply. Unlike other BB code forum where back then, i used to be the moderator there and we can move/delete/highlight any reply/thread/posting in a simple steps. I think Armorama didnt used full BB code license. Or perhaps i could ask Jim to fix this.

How was the book??

Hello guys, just got back from kampung yesterday (Saturday). As usual, singgah kat KL with HHQ the main target. Got myself a Hase 1/72 F-15C Eagle and some badly needed modeling supplies. Keep myself off MH this time.....

Hmm...why is it modelers are sooooo fascinated with German subjects, be it AFVs or planes?

to put it simply, it's bcause the model companies makes more of them than ww2 allied (or modern) subjects so we are very much spoilt for choice... not to mention the various types of vehicles & camo options.

don't forget the historical factor as well... come on, who didn't watch Combat! masa dulu-dulu... he he..

hairil, balik kampung mana aa? johor ke...

I also like to think that everybody loves underdogs (despite the germans' military superiority). But then, how come there is so little models of Japanese hardware? (Probably because there are too little of them--haha answering my own q!)

But sometimes it annoys me la....these companies comes up with another German (insert plane/AFV/figure)....I think they can just come up (in case of planes) with new decal sheet instead of 'new' kits.....and when will a new 1/72 F-15E is coming up??

--------

Balik johor la.....nowhere else to go!

Guys,

During Cuti, I have been busy working on a couples of DML figure, as I mention before, I'm working on a small nam vignette about 3 in X 3 in, with NVS sapper charging the SF camp, some thing like the movie Fire Base Gloria, I will use 2 running figures from the NVA set and a GB firing the hand gun, so there will be trenches, sand bag and barbwire....

The figures is almost done, will post some photos when I get back the camera from my brother later, and will ask the dio master here on some tips on the ground work later…

Welcome back Hairil. Haven't seen you around the neighbourhood for quite a while. Your'e definitely right about German stuff. Someone did a rough survey in Amorama some time back and though I can't remember the exact numbers the majority (60 % as a rough guess) especially AFV were German followed by a much smaller quantity of Allied and and almost non existent Japanese and Italian models.

I think you get a better mix on planes though. May also have something to do with the fact the Germans especially uniforms were much more interesting than plain old khaki and olive drab.

Boss I tak sempat go in detail over the book yet. Still fiddling around my Cassino vignette. Can't stop myself from doing a bit of customizing. Bad habit. More customization slower output. Plus it doesn't necessarily look any better.

good for you CK...

well, there are saying that there are german inside us all.........hahaha ... i dont know how i get influenced by german ...but i guess it was the old tamiya panther....before that i build allied AFv and modern jets (US of course)..........

yesterday, i painted a few more figures for my next vignette..... which consist of DML Ambush at Poteu set and verlinden street dio in resin... but as usual, im too slow (at this age)...manage to paint 2 head from the morning till mid night...between layan guest..well yesterday is still hari raya....and the siblings, relatives visted me yesterday...so between layan tetamu, i sneak inside my room and painted the figures head.......

others: academy tiger 1 interior 90% finished but i'm not happy how the hull paint turned out... i might have to spray again... also my Panther G and Pzkpfw IV G almost finished.. doing it all in one go...

Hello Modellers:

I am back but ... not for long. Office has been hectic recently. Lots of datelines up to end of the year.

Currently working on two kits for DEC SnT on 3 and 4 DEC 2005 Mid Valley Exhibition Centre (MVEC). I will discuss details of DEC SnT with everyone some time tomorrow. Till then, have fun .

btw, masterq,

the most that i can see is the glossy paint job..but since this is still in progress then i may suggest u put a coat or two of flat clear...

maybe an oil umber wash could give the figures a lot more impression.......just my ideas

Agh! Before you seal oil paints with matt coat, give it a day or two to dry. Otherwise, the solvent vapor will seap through the matt coat and cause hairline cracks on the surface. My Kilo top deck suffered from this experience

Use grey or light grey for the whites of the eyes.

I know some ppl dun even use light grey. They just paint it in such a way to give impression the figure are having eyes .

Using pure white makes the figure bug eyed

Aaa....photos are up at last. I know these guys, DML Green Beret set and NVA Sappers. I'm trying to figure out how your figs came out a bit glossy, Thomas. Do you mount your fig on a temporary base. I use to have the same problem though with acrylics. Too much handling and even the most matt came out glossy. Of course the camera flash doesn't help either. Solved most of the problem by temporarily mounting them on an ink eraser (better coz its harder than the pencil eraser).

Progress looks good thus far. If I may humbly suggest you lengthen the pupils a bit so they're not as round. Actually I think the google eyed effect comes more from the pupils being round. If you look at a relaxed person's face you can never see the full pupil but rather a round that has the top and bottom shaved off. Unless you're Rosamund Kwan with her big beautiful eyes. Oops lari topic but still those eyes, sadly not used by her to full effect.

A quick and easy way to do them is use a 0.05mm. draft pen. I heard you can even get a 0.01 mm. one but not in Malaysia. Got my 0.05 mm from the art supply shop. Got a blue one for blue eyes and the usual black one. At any rate eyes are the hardest to do. As Lim said avoid pure white. I tinge my white with the flesh color used for the face.

Lately though I still paint them in with a fine brush (00) but the pen is easier especially for my unsteady hands. Anybody going overseas perhaps you can look out for a 0.01mm. draftman pen for me? I heard they're good for scribing panel lines at least that's what a Gundam modeller told me.

Thomas,

u didnt missed any code...when i edited your reply at the first time, i didnt find anything that can go wrong...but still the image wont appear...so what i did was, i didnt copy the tag that the page suggested to to ..something like

Code:

so what i did was, i view the image from your gallery, right click on the images and click properties....highlight the image URL and then copy..and paste in your reply...that's what i did.......

ok about the figs..
i must agree with Kenny, CK and Lim....

it's the eyes..... man i also still learning how to paint them correctly...
CK, using draft pen to do the outline is really made my day...i been thinking about this for weeks now....lucky i have a few pen during my university time....they must be kering already...but i forgot the size...i think i have 4 of them....yg boleh ingat i have 0.2 mm, 0.5 mm and 0.8 mm

kena punggah store la balik nih

Boss, the pen is to do the whole pupil not just the outline. Instead of making a dot you sort of try to draw a very, very, very short line. This will make the pupil less round and less goggle eyed.

Another tricky problem is making sure that the 2 eyes when done don't look to cross eyed. Even if you get the pupils to duduk tengah tengah the eye when viewed from the front the face will look cross eyed. It has to be space off center. Best is to imagine them looking sideways. Hope it helps you Thomas. From what I can see the positioning thus far looks good.

Hey, I have started to build my
German 8T Half Track Sdkfz 7/1 - CA150 (aka anti-aircraft half track).

No pics yet, but i have assembled the gun assembly..Hmm..lots of ejector marks (deep and in hard to reach places). Since i tengok the Tamiya Catalog they all also didnt bother to remove , I also didnt bother lah. I also drilled out the barrels to improve the look.

Will paint it in the winter camouflage when completed. Will try to improve on the winter painting technique based on my T-34
