Was just wondering how much the average modeller spends each week/month/year on modelling?
I have kept an account of all my purchases this year, including magazines, paints, brushes .. even down to picture frames and it is getting scary. Hopefully the wife never finds the sheet! In the first 9 months of this year I have spent $1500. This may not seem to some as much, but I have only bought about 10 kits this year. Most money was spent on figures and am stuff.

You are asking a question I really do not want to know the answer to nor do I want to try and figure it out. It boggles the mind as to how high the figure could be.

To date I have spent $286.93. I have had a very limited modeling budget this year. Hopefully things will get better next year.

Far too much! I'd hate to put a price on it more kits than I'll ever build need to stop buying them and invest in A/m stuff ect but it;s hard with so many great kits getting released on a monthly basis

I'm sure the model shop has a vex on me as I feel obliged to buy something every time I vist! :-)

Well, I bet that in all of my modeling life, I've probably spent only about 3 hundred dollars, maximum. Thanks for your time.

Since I have joined this forum I have mostly bought armour kits with all the extras, conversions, updates , etc.
I think my running total is about 2000-2500 so far, I get a 300 budget from the wife a month. I finally went to my LHS and said I get this amount could we work something out and he agreed. I get a nice discount if I spend a $100.00 or more on every order.
So my stash is getting larger every week. Pretty soon I am going to have to find more space for my kits I bought.I might put them in the atic; the floor is finished so they wouldn't get ruined.
Happy Modeling

I'm not spending enough, unlike you, Porkchop! I've probably only spent about $200CDN so far this year, but then, I'm working off my stash from last year (that was a big year in expenses!!!).
Also, I've gotten a few things for presents at father's day and my birthday, too!

i guess when your local hobby shop guy starts saying "back again?" you've figured you've been there enough, therefore, spending enough money, cuz you know you cant come out empty of the hobby shop

LOL,
I got introduced to the by the hobby shop owner to his wife at an event away from his store (a Packers game). I suspect the next comment from him to her was something like "That's the guy paying our mortgage."

Hi, Man I would hate to figure. Really. I know I've spent more on this hobby since I've been registered here than ever before. Not sure of the reasoning here, but......
I do know that this summer I'be bought 3 of the Trumpeter T-34s at $125 apeiece. Plus all of Dragon's half-tracks series. Plus paints, glues, plastic sheet, etc. I would imagine that throughout the last year I've spent as much as you have, or more.
Since we no longer have the kids at home to finance and the wife still works at a very good paying job for a lawyer's firm, we are for the first time in a stage where the money is no problem at the moment. And just old enough that what we want in life, and can afford, we had better get, or do, now before old age begins to set in with a vengence.
But any hobby that I can think of any more is expensive, and most likely, all told, modeling is probably the less expensive of a lot of them are in today's age.
Take care, Sgirty

So far I've spent about $800 in the last 3 years. Looking at the number makes me think I could buy a used car for that money. :-)

I'm spending the kids inhertance, and leave them pennyless....
LOL.....
I don't even want to think how much I have spent.
If I start charging and go professional, can I write off the several hundred kits as stock?

I have no idea how much as I tend to go through stages of not spending for months and then suddenly the bug bites and you see that box with your name on it. I'm glad that I came across this site though as I thought that I was the only one with a stack of unfinished models

. I don't spend to much as I don't by A/M parts at twice the price of the original kit! I like to buy special offers or discounts and I build the cheaper brands like Italieri, Revell etc. Lack of detail can be covered in mud. The older Tamiya kits are not to bad either, as long as you can live with holes in the floor and through the figures away. Ooh talking about figures, I bought a three figure resin set from Gunze a few weeks ago.. Set me back £18

. And afterwards I went and bought the Revell 1:32 BF109 to go with it

. A well. We all have our moments of weakness :-)
Don't think about the money, just make sure your other half doesn't find out.
Cheers
Henk

I don't keep a running total of what I spend, but looking at the shelves behind me........about $300.00 in kits so far this year, plus another $100.00 in supplies. If Dragon and AFV keep releasing new new kits, it will probably be another $200.00 by the end of the year.
The Dragon 251's alone will probably total close to that amount. Then there's the Pz1b DAK and PaK 40.
The wife will probably have a heck of a yard sale when I'm gone! :-)
