Lets see, umm. Well i spend about an average of $60-$80 dollars a week. Just to day i'v spent $105.62. I buy things that i wont get to build years from now. My problem is that i won't be able to get what in need later on. I'm not trying to brag, and this is sick, i must have about $4000-$5000 in armor, aircraft and racecar kits. Heck, i can open my own hobby shop.

I started modelling about 1 year ago. After my initial investment of about $300-$400 on airbrush, compresssor, tools, etc. I am running about $75-$100 per month. Cheers

As they say at congressional hearing: “I have no clear recollection of that sir!” :-)
Well my latest order including Academy’s M10 Duckbill, M113A1 Vietnam, F-86F-30 Sabre and some accessories plus a few of Aires’s engines just arrived. Not to mention the odd Ebay auction that is still trickling through.
With Dragon’s King Tiger ‘Porsche Turret’ and Sd.Kfz. 251 Half track (3 in 1 kit) plus AFV Club’s M3A3 Stuart and Trumpeter’s Faun on my ‘to buy list’, I’d say way too much!
Here I was thinking only women benefited from ‘Retail therapy’! :-)

Being a college student and all I really dont have a monthly budget for models, it's more like if it is a good deal I get it.
I am fortunate though to get money for modeling and this month has been good on me so I have spent unusually much this past month, probably about $600-$700 for figures and maybe another $150-200 on paint and brushes (@10-15 bucks a pop for brushes it gets up there)
Now I wont spend any more for a while, well...until I find another bargain!

Hi
What a great discussion.
I know last year I got some geat deals from a fellow AMPS clubmember and probably spent about $700 buying up some of his "excess" stock.
I have stopped the spending for 2004 and I have purchased just one $14.99 item this year a set of Tamiya Recon figures.
The deals were great so I took them however my focus is on completing some kits and improving skills.
I have tried to avoid the temptation of having too many got to haves. Whilst I would love to get the Dragon 251 series I know I can wait.
Maybe its a self discipline thing plus a lack of spare finances at present. I try not to allow the "addiction" to control me.
I just work on one kit at a time it seems to take me about 5 to 6 months to complete one AFV.
I have a stockpile of kits at present only numbering 30-40 or so which I have worked out at the speed I build will keep me busy for some 5 to 7 years.
I quess my simple philosphy is that I enjoy building not stockpiling kits.
Compared to my other hobby of cars I spend little other than time and raw materials like glue and paint on modelling.
Regards

Fortunately I bought most of my kits & supplies while working in a hobby store during my university days. Now all I buy is the odd paint and one or two "nice to haves" from time to time.

Never enough, yet, way too much. I actually spend the most on strip and sheet styrene at $75.00 a year.
Now, the N-Scale aspect of my money expenditures require accounting practices I will not undertake.
And counting tools and supplies like paint and putty...
If my fiance reads this....
Stoppin now.

Curiously enough, I'm not spending very much at all...
One of the curious things is that I cannot go 'impulse' buying - if I want something, I buy it on the 'net. Not having a LHS saves me a fortune. So far this year, I spent a bit in England in July - virtually nothing in Amsterdam (couldn't find a single model shop) and apart from brushes and Vallejo paint (which i can buy locally), not a lot at all....Jim

So far this year, I have spent close to 500 US$. Had I bought all Kits in Denmark the cost would have been double up. Thanks to Historexagents I have saved a lot of money. I would have saved a lot more if my stash were smaller. But who want's a small stash :-)
I think last year was more expensive. Bought an airbrush and compressor. And a lot of kits.
Keep on buying. Keep expanding your stash. Who knows when the world wide plastic shortege will hit us.

Hmmm....
...including my old models, the kits I have now, my equipment, paints, etc. I must have spent around P 60,000 or even more. That's from $1000 to $ 1600 dollars.
The dollar has a lot of purchasing power here in the Philippines. At present $ 1 is equal to P 57. A good kit here (i.e. an Academy Panzer IV I bought just last week) costs around P440. That is around $ 8.00 rounded up.
If you are a dollar earner, you can buy a LOT of kits here. But if you are a peso earner, you might have a bit of a problem since the peso here has little purchasing power. Fortunately, my company pays me well for my services that I can consider myself being compensated very satisfactorily....and more.

well now thats a question!
well im a 19 year old single bloke, and im lucky to have a really well paid job. i also live with my parents so no bills etc (they dont make me pay anything bless em!)
so i tend to have a lot of money lying around most of the time, when i first started in this job, i went a little mad and for a couple of months i was spending around £500 a month on models etc
after i realised i would never build everything i was buying i have stopped the madness, i now spend around £100-150 a month all in

This calendar year I'm at about $300-400 give or take $25.
Thank goodness for ebay and good deals. I'm always scouting out kits for future projects.
I also scratch build a lot of the diorama parts that I use so that saves some money.
Plus -I've been doing this for a while and I don't buy many more tools so if this question was asked a few years ago I'd be depressed right now.

Well Lets HOPE our wife's and signifigant others don't find this thread and have a coniption fit... LOL
I started about 3 or so years ago and spent a year just getting the tools together and teaching myself airbrushing.. now with every kit i build i try somthing new.. I know lots of things that don't work.. he he..
and lots of things that do..
I have just about all the tools i need for basic model building.. and painting and airbrushing.. umm and resin casting and about 40 unbuilt kits to practice on.. so far i think my out of pocket expenses is about $2500 over a 3 year period.... (i bought a lot of paint a bottle at a time... ) and i get that "back again" all the time at the hobbytown usa here which is my fav in this area.. not that i have a lot to choose from...
I'll leave yall with this little funny i made..

HA ha ha! Very funny Delbert. :-) :-) :-)
I'd say I spend between 20 to 40 dollars per month. You know how it goes, sometimes it's 60, sometimes it's none.

Hmmm...
To be completely honest, I could spend a months salary every month on kits and supplies, But unfortunately, my wife keeps me at bay...Just have to keep the proper perspectives, I guess...To this date, I cringe at the thought of adding it all up!!
Sincerely,
Gunny
