My sincere condolences to your family. This is very shocking.
(BARV) was an inspiration to me to keep trying in my scratchbuilding. He will be missed and always remembered by me and most of us.

Such a tragic loss of a really great modeler! My condolences to you and your family, Steve was a real inspiration for me and many of the other modern fans on these boards, as well as anyone else who appreciated what could be done with a piece of humble plasti card. He will be sorely missed, but never forgotten!

RIP Barv!

Hi Steve
I send my deepest sympathies to you and all the family.

I realise it won't mean much at the moment but at a time when I lost a loved one, an old friend said to me 'in time you will realise that when you loose a loved one they never leave you. They are always there with you'.

Awfully sorry for your loss. Only met Barv this spring at the ScotNat he was busy beavering away chatting to all and sundry and looked totally in his element. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Steve, condolences mate. He was an original your old man, and most entertaining in the forums. As for his work, well it speaks for itself. All the best to your family

Sorry to here the news. All the best to you and your family. Barv certainly inspired me to try the dark side and as the others have said he will be sorely missed around here.

Steve,

Please accept my sincere condolences on your very sad loss.

I didn't know your Dad personally - only via his posts here at Armorama. But he was clearly quite a character as well as a very talented modeller, and it seems that he was a very popular bloke as well judging from some of the tributes already paid above.

Maybe an Armorama "BARV Prize" in his name would also be a fitting tribute to him here (either just a one-off competition or an annual thing), with the prize going to the best ARV model and / or scratchbuild?

Just an idea that I hope you don't mind me floating.

Once again, heartfelt condolences to you and your family.

Steve and Family.

My deepest and sincerest condolences, Barv will be missed, both here on the internet, and at all the shows. A real genuine nice bloke, always there with a joke, or a quick comment.

Very very upset to hear this news.

Best wishes to you and your family, Steve.

Losing a good father is one of those watershed moments in life. In your grief, remember to be thankful that you did have a good one - not a whole lot of people have that blessing.

In your heart and mind, he'll always be with you. I lost my father 14 years ago, but his wisdom still guides me.

My sincere condolences to Megan and Family.

Steve and Megan helped us move into our new gaff when we arrived back from our stint with British Forces Germany and their generosity to us ever since has been unparalled.

Myself, Erik T and Marcel (greyhunter) had nightly IM chats with Steve for years from wherever we were. His humour was terrible but fun. An old soldier who had seen a lot.

I was hoping to visit Steve last Saturday but as his family ( "The Tribe") as he called them was up on holiday I left it as I'd be seeing him at the Dundee show this weekend anyway.

Sadly that'll never happen now.

I'll very much miss Steve, his friendship and his modelling.

Quoted Text

I’m really sorry to pass on the bad news that, very sadly, my dad Steve Cruickshank (Barv) passed away suddenly last night, the 18th of August at 8pm.

Steve was well known for his incredible scratch built models, his sense of humour and his willingness to always help out others.

Obviously everyone is still in a state of shock at the moment and as more information becomes available I will pass it on.

I am sorry for your loss. My prayers go out to you and your family

He may be gone but I,m sure others will pass on his knowledge and remember him as the guy who if you gave him a piece of plastic and some glue he would build you something of interest (but no bang bangs )

I hope he inspired others to come over to the Dark Side and give scratching a go

Steve Cruickshank Jnr (son of Barv) (GOSMG)

VERY sorry to hear this. Steve was a inspiration on the Soviet/Russkie forum and will be sorely missed.

May he enjoy that great hobbyshop/swap meet/contest/building room in the sky...
