About Merlin
I've been modelling for about 40 years, on and off. While I'm happy to build anything, my interests lie primarily in 1/48 scale aircraft. I mostly concentrate on WW2 subjects, although I'm also interested in WW1, Golden Age aviation and the early Jet Age - and have even been known to build the occasional modern jet... About 10 years ago I used to market my own range of resin accessories, but gave it up when I realised I was losing sight of why I'd begun modelling in the first place; it's supposed to be fun and doing it "professionally" meant I had no time left for enjoyment. Maybe it's this background which has left me with a penchant for short-run kits - I really value the chance to build unusual subjects... and I know how much hard work lies behind the finished product.Prior to finding Armorama, I'd slipped into a bad patch where, although I was still buying plenty of kits, I simply didn't finish anything. Put it down to outside pressures, decreased attention span, unrealistic ambitions... whatever; in effect, my modelling was dead in the water.Kitmaker totally transformed my outlook on modelling. I've never had access to a model club, so being part of this community has been really refreshing for me. The help and encouragement has amazed me and the best thing is that I actually began to finish a few models again. I'm a slow worker and, of course moving on to editing Aeroscale has offered lots of fresh distractions - but it's still very satisfying to look at a few completed models now and again.
