Have you ever noticed how cool some accents sound? Some accents sound cooler than others. Some are downright annoying. What are your thoughts?

My top four would be:

1.Australian- Darn, now thats a cool accent!
2.English- You never hear that around here, and it sounds really cool too!
3.Austrian- You can pretend you are the terminator...
4.Canadian- I don't know why they sound cool, maybe it's just funny sounding, eh?

With an international community, this should be fairly interesting...

And for the sake of simplicity, let's keep this to accents on English.

My Mum had the best. She was a true Cockney, born in the sound of the Bow Bells. If you've seen My Fair Lady Elisa's Dad sound pretty much like Mum did.

Of course, in Georgia or the Carolina's, they'd probably say it's those Northerners that have the accent... :-) :-)

Irish or Scotish is extremely cool sounding.
Female Aussie accents are very sexy.

I once attended class with a lovely young lady from Estonia who had a wonderful eastern European accent. She dropped articles when speaking English, i.e., instead of saying "Open the door" and "Give me a sandwich," she'd say "Open door" and "Give me sandwich." It was really cute ... she sounded like Nadia Comeneci in the 76 Olympics.

Heck, come to think about it, I like just about any accent, as long as it's spoken by a woman!

Uhh... walking the line here... I think the Aussie chick can be sometimes hot but also can be THE WORST...
After 4 months travel, I washed up at an OB hostel in San Diego, having not heard an Aussie accent in the time... Suddenly whilst drinking Newkie browns in the beer garden and writing a postcard, I heard this shrieking screeching sound... Some bird from Brisbane who was the vocal equivalent of being keelhauled, hung drawn and quartered (in any order you like...) She made her way to my table eventually, and upon her asking my origins, I replied " London ,innit..."
Sorry Dave, I digress...
Had an Ecuadorian (?) friend who had a hot accent... Really rounded "Thpanish" sounding...

Coolest?

I like English spoken with a Dutch accent. Used to work with Martina, who's persistent mis-pronounciation of 'whack' (as in the technical archaeological term 'whack off another layer') gave us a catchphrase that lasted the whole excavation.

Worst?

Estuary English innit

If we're talking the "hottest", then I have to say the English spoken by the Scandinavian exchange students I met in a Cape Town club one wild night - identical twins I might add

I might just add that regarding the Scottish accent... we're talking Sean Connery, not Ewan MacGregor :-)

Uncoolest accent--North East English!

I'm born and bred in this region, but I detest hearing a Geordie accent if anyone is being interviewed on TV or radio. I just hope that I don't actualy sound like that, though I probably do.

There is a woman on public radio who host the Thistel & Shamrock music program. I am not quite sure if she is Irish or Scottish, but that accent of hers... Oh man! That is the sexiest voice there is...

I always wonder what you Yanks mean by an English acent. Do you mean Hugh Grant or Jason Statham? :-)

For coolness, I think I'd give it to the Scots too.

As for sexiness, have you ever heard a Lebanese woman speak Arabic? They've got this absolutely erotic French lilt to it.

This is a gag clip from a local radio station...
