By English accent, I mean ANY Accent fro anywhere remotely near England....however, I do often wonder what the rest of the world means by an American accent....

Dude, like do you not know what you sound like already?! Oh man! hehe generalised SoCal I know I know... :-)
Anytime someone really rrrrrs their rs instead of ignoring them... OR says "y'all". Hehehe...
ie. BEER.
Aussie~ "Beeya"
English~ (BBC;)) "Biiah"
etc etc etc
Sometimes a heavy Irish lilt can sound American, due to the heavy rolling of the Rs (to me at at least)

Ahh...but us New jerseyans (at least south jersey) have no acent to speak of. I do sometimes say 'fer' instead of 'for', but only in some instances, example...
'fer'
What's fer dinner?
'for'
What are you waiting for?
Other than that, it's just plain old, boring, straight english.

If we here in the Midwest have an accent I don't hear it. It must be pretty boring compared to all the other cool accents out there.

When I was in the Berlin Brigade a good looking Chinese girl speaking with a English accent was pretty cool.

That's just it, when you've lived with it all your life you don't notice it, it's only when you go somewhere else. When I first moved to London in 1978, a guy in Richmond placed me as from the Midlands straight away, & I was pretty sure I didn't have an accent having moved all over the place!
As for no accent in New Jersey, shouldn't that be written "Noo Joisey"?LOL

Nah, that's a North Jersey accent, very similiar to a New Yorker accent. If we have any accent at all down here, it's a Philly accent. It's New Jerzee here.
Sheesh...I wonder how many variations in American English accents I can name...
Do you Brits have different accents for different cities too?
