This is quickly deterioating into a sexy foreign girl's accent contest...... and if that's the case, then I say there are no losers, only winners......specially at two in the morning at the pub!

Hi Mary,

About 10 years ago I was sent down to Biloxi/Gulfport to inspect a construction site for four months. Most of the labourers where locals from the area. (Interesting labour practices down there, the husbands or boyfriends drove the big Volvo end-dumps, and the wifes and/or girlfriends took over on the evening shifts. Family business I guess). Anyway they thought my 'northern accent was way cool!.... I, on the other hand, needed a translator to figure out that deep southern drawl. Good folks down there. Makes me wonder how all those folks are managing post Katrina....

I think those Aussie women have quite the nice accent. Especially in those new Ads they are showing here in Canada.

The worst English accent has to be Swedish politicans trying to speak English. No problems finding the right words or correct sentences but they still have the Swedish pronounciation and sentence melody (correct word?) :-)

The cutest accent on the other hand has to be my girlfriend trying to speak Swedish... She is from Germany :-)8 Makes me melt...

Well as I was born in Nottinghamshire, but haven't lived there for 42 years, I like the Notts/Derbys/Black Country accent (beats the Southern whine anyday). It's less broad than the Lancs & Yorks accents. I can't stand Scottish, but that's because all the Jocks I've worked with have been complete a******s (not representative I know). I watched Dolly Parton on the telly & loved her accent - don't hear it much round here! The most surreal has to be when we stopped for petrol in a remote part of Wales. We were served by a Pakistani who had a perfect Welsh accent (think about it). What do Americans mean by an English accent? Is that BBC English (Hugh Grant - can't stand him!), or Cockney? Or maybe even Scottish? One of my Jock colleagues was incandescent because he received a letter addressed "Scotland, England", from America.
