As for the car, it's a weekend car so can only use at night & weekends. And being just a KIA, it's quite affordable. I don't enjoy driving too much really with the jam and all. But need it when I bring my family out. Can't 'tompang' my wife & baby on my bike together... :-)

tompang wife and kids? hahah.. :-)
like johor like that...one whole family on a small bike...if u guys listen to the bike properly, u can heard the bike screaming, "HELP!!!!"
:-) :-)

There are still 'weekend' cars around.

Anyway, i'm thinking of getting a Lancer next year. I heard that Getz is also not a bad choice. Hmmm... Maybe i'll make up my mind next year with more research.

My passion is body-building. I dont intend to grow really big as there's a limit to everyone's 'growth' including me unless we take steroids. There's something really satisfying about body-building, to me, it's like sculpting your body.

I don't play much games now but when i do i like to play 1st person shooters and RPG games.

Well... there's no quick fix to attaining a perfect body. Popping pills would only increase the harmful side effects on your body.

I would just do regular running to keep myself in shape.

" BORDER="0">

I've seen a family of 5 on a Honda cub before in Kota Tinggi during Hari Raya a few yrs back. :-) It looks funny but it's also damn dangerous. If anything happens, the whole family will be wiped out.

How about music? What's do u guyz listen to? I listen to a wide range.

Being a old fogey, I love 80s music. Grew up with them anyway. My favourites are Reo Speedwagon, Hall & Oates etc.

Ok i havent lived in Singapore since leaving the army in 1997 - 1998. you guys got any updates on whats changed since then. I have been back on the odd occasions and noticed the public transportation has reverted to the EZ Link card but what else has changed?

I left Singapore in 1990 so i always suffer reverse culture shock when i go back for holidays. I figured getting some updates from you guys would lessen the impact the next time i head back.

Pictures would be nice.....how about national day photos too?

So Jazza, you leaving for good? 1997-1998? Wow that was a long time ago. At that time, i was about to enter Yr 1 Poly. I think Tekong New BMTC just opened. As for transportation stuff, we've the North East Line, the Bt Panjang LRT system. And a new "circle Line" which cause some problems at Nicoll Highway and made some SCDF Rescue Team the most popular talk of town cos Singaporeans thought we bought them from Sweden.
Say maybe if u come back for holidays we could meet up with some of us. And by the way, i ve planned to go to New Zealand for a holiday, climb moutains maybe, pluck a silver fern? Though i m still working on the budget.
And we have more taxi company now, we have enough water supply now too. A water desallination plant at Tuas and a New water treatment plant at East Side.

Maybe I'll just list a few major changes per categories :

Politics
You say you left Singapore back in 1990? Its the year when Mr Goh Chok Tong took over the baton from the then PM Lee Kwan Yew. And it was changed again recently (i year ago?) now that Mr Lee Hsien Long is PM if you haven't already know.

For NS, its now 2 years. No more 2.5 years for Cpl and above. Reservist is 10 cycles. No more 13 cycles.

MRT
We now have the North East Line MRT (on top of the 1st one) which runs to places like Sengkang, Hougang Clark Quay, Chinatown, Little India etc.

The are now working on a Central Line that will go places like Ubi, other parts of Ang Mo Kio etc. Not long ago, the piling works at Nichol Highway collapsed and took along few lives. Sad event that is.

There are also LRT (Light Rail Transit) at certain neighbourhood (I think Sengkang and Chao Chu Kang) for commuters transit.

Military - One can't do without talking about this category yah haha!!
We have bought the Apache helicoptor and could be deliver to Singapore soon.
Also, we finally decided on the F-15 for replacement of the venerable A-4 Skyhawk. Though not my choice but its a good aircraft nonetheless. I would prefer the Tornado... oh well.

Taxi
Its still $2.40 starting
Bus
Its minimum 0.64cents per ride even for neighbourhood looping bus.

Thats about all I can think of. So when you are back for "holliday" (how ironic haha!!) again, these should ease your shock a little

Haha.. one more point I must add!!

Remember to bring more money when you come... GST (Good Service Tax) has increased to 5% from the previous 3%.!! It's still low comparing with other countries. But hey... it's still money alright!

If you ask whether the Service has improved... well... I'll leave you to find that out.

I'm my view... not really... haha :-)

Wow things have certainly changed.

Yeah i left Singapore to live in Auckland when i was 14 and had to come back to NS once i turned the sorry age of 18 like the rest of you. Common nickname was obviously "potatoe" since my mandarine was at primary level. When i enlisted in 1995, i was actually posted to Tekong (the old one) but eventually got transferred to Nee Soon.

A silver fern??? Dude when you come to NZ, The only silver fern you should be looking at is the one spread across the chest of the mighty All Blacks. Im very much into Rugby since i spent most of my teenage life here. Im sure you guys are familiar with one of our ex AB players, Jonah Lomu.

Yeah i heard about this on the news! Those lucky fellas! They really ought to compensate us for the extra 4 months of tormenting we had to endure.

When i was attached out for water polo for the combat engineers, we caught glimpses of the americans displaying the Apache so im glad to know we have some good stuff in the army now.

About bloody time eh! Time to get rid of the Vietnam era equipment.

BTW, the Singapore government got the GST idea from NZ and believe me, 5% is still lower than our 12.5%. I recalled the Singapore Govt mentioning that it would never be anywhere near NZ's rates but i have my doubts.

Hey where are the photos??

Yup, there are no quick fix. Even with the steroids, you still need to train very very hard (doubly hard) else the drugs will go to waste.

I like running too. When i'm stressed out, i just run. It clears the mind.

Hi Jazza, we would love to post some pictures of Singapore, but I guess... time isn't on our hands these days... :-)

Maybe since you left, the greatest change I would say would be the Esplanade. (At Marina Bay, next to Marina Square Shopping Centre where Minature Hobby is located).

The government is trying to make Singapore a Arts & Cultural Hub too. And the Esplanade would be like the Sydney Opera House, staging such events.

wow times have certainly changed. I always thought they were totally against having casinos in Singapore. I came across heaps of jackpot rooms but never a casino. It would certainly add a bit of a boost to the economy but it brings its own problems. Auckland went through this a couple of years ago and now all you see is mainland chinese immigrants kidnapping one another for ransom cause they blew it all in the casino.

Sad to say but thats a fact of life. If you have a failing economy, the implications of people becoming jobless and not being able to feed their family is more dire than the odd few people that have gambling problems. The lesser of 2 evils in other words.

Yeah its possible to place a camera infront. It had been done before. It was used as a UAV during the katrina incident.

I used to see people play this on the field by the National Stadium. I always worry about their skills especially when the darn blades are lethal if it crashes into someone.

Thats why a heli need a lot of practice flights before u can even fly normally. Cos the first lesson is to hover, if u can't hover, chances are u can't even take off
