I think my team needs a 'Alex Fergusson' style hairdryer treatment

There is a long way to go yet...

We have 2 new players this week ... Richard Wilkins and my wife .. who wants to join a league where there might be some competition (she´s fed up, beating me). Must be a Welsh thing ... starting late (Swansea and Llanelli)!

Results after gameweek 1(Last week´s position in brackets)

1__betheyn2 (Andy Brazier)..............................109 (1)
2__J G United (Janine Glackin).........................95 (n/a)
3__Tarok (Rudi Richardson)..............................91 (2)
4__Helsingborgs IF (Thomas Bertilsson).......90 (4)
5__Plasticbattle (frank glackin)..........................87 (5)
5__DaveCox (Dave Cox)......................................87 (3)
7__Blackburn Weasels (Ed Tanski)..................63 (7)
8__Swansea United (richard wilkins)...............63 (n/a)
9__Holland 1 (Henk Meerdink)...........................59 (8)
10_tankysgal1 (mary langley).............................52 (9)
11_Legion of Doom (Marty Wasiak)..................49 (6)

Andy Brazier is still looking strong, and recorded another high result. The pressure is on the rest of the league to not let him slip away at an early stage!
Rudi and Dave took it easy this week, but Marty has taken a dive to the bottom of the table ....
I had quite a good turn out, considering both my strikers didn´t play (Fowler and Bellamy).

Next update .. after gameweek 3 results are in!

Nah! She´s not that good! :-) We have our own little league, and she started at the start. Thats where I got the idea to start an Amorama version. When she joined this league, her points followed. The same must go for Richard!
A lot will drop points next week ... I have 2 liverpool and 2 Utd players, plus 2 Charlton players who just dont play!

I had a really bad week, It didn't help that I had made a transfer which cost me 8 points. Does anyone know what is up with Tiago from Chelsea? He hasn't played in either of the first two matches.

Welcome Janine and Richard

With Dudek out till November, I'm not scoring any major points with my sub-keeper... and Gerrard didn't have a good game, AND Fowler didn't play... well at least Drogba scored...

Maybe theres nothing up with him. Its not easy to break into the first team, or he´s just out of favour.
About transfers ... as far as i know, you can only make one transfer per week for free. Any more and you are deducted 4 points per transfer.

Just traded Fowler for Diouf... I reckon all Fowlers whinging and whining about Houllier dumping him is souring his game... like that's really gonna make Raffa want him back...

I think Tiago has been dropped as he appeared as a sub in the Charity Shield match and was the cause of Arsenals goal. There is no mention of him being injured on Chelseas website. Also as Essien has arrived he might have gone down the pecking order.

Time to transfer ... this was on Sky Sports tonight ........
Jose Mourinho has paid tribute to Tiago's professionalism as the midfielder nears a move to Lyon.
Chelsea have accepted a €10 million (£6.8 million) offer for the Portugal international and Tiago is discussing terms with Lyon.
Tiago appears close to reaching an accord with Lyon and has already said his farewells to his Chelsea colleagues.
He has made 52 appearances for The Blues since joining from Benfica last summer but is leaving Stamford Bridge to secure regular football this season.
Blues boss Mourinho admits he cannot guarantee his compatriot that, particularly after bringing in Michael Essien from Lyon.

Hey Mary,

I can't see what players you have got selected, so let me just give you a few tips... the lads may differ with me on a few of these...

1. Select a brilliant 'keeper as you primary keeper, and select a good 'keeper as you substitute 'keeper.
2. Be prepared to pay a premium for 2 forwards/strikers.
3. When selecting your captain, make sure he is someone that is fit and playing the full length of the games, and preferably being involved in creating or scoring goals.
4. Follow the premier league news on SkySports or the Premier League sites... you pick up some good indicators of who's doing what...
5. Don't be afraid to trade the buggers that aren't performing... remember, you're allowed one "free" transfer per gameweek... any transfers over and above this come at a points cost... also, bear in mind when transfering that players values fluctuate, so you could make a profit or a loss on a trade...

Hope that helps a bit...

Rudi

Tarok goes TOP of the log! :-) :-) :-)

Question is.... will my being at the top of the log be as short lived as Spurs stint at the top??? :-) :-) :-)

Great to have you onboard Peter. Its been a while! Good to see you back.

Nice one Rudi!
Richard also had a very strong showing!
Also looks like Marty´s transfers have been made in good time.

Don't get too comfortable at the top Rudi as you are only keeping it warm for me :-) :-) . Spurs always get dizzy when they are at the top and fall off :-) :-) .
Welcome to the game Peter, as you can see it's a close run thing at the moment.

LOL Andy... Don't worry... I was preparing to let it go again on Saturday... I figure I'll let one of you keep it warm for me until a few gameweeks from the end and then snatch it back in a vicious coup-d'tat.... LOL :-) :-) :-)

I've made some interesting transfers this week... can't wait to see how they pan out... they'll either dazzle or dissapoint... LOL :-) :-)

A belated welcome to the game Peter!

I have a question (perhaps a silly one but nonetheless). In scoring points, what determines whether a player conceded a goal? Does it mean that he was on the field when the goal was scored or that he was in a close proximity of the ball when the goal was scored. Could anyone explain?

In the case of defenders and midfielders I would assume it means he was on the field (and for at least 60 min)... I think for 'keepers it's pretty clear cut...

Of course the way to never have to worry about this is select players that don't concede goals.... :-) :-) :-) :-)

Boy was gameweek 4 screwy.... total upheaval in the leagues...

I had a strange auto substitution tho.... Bergkamp was substituted yet he played... AND he scored more points than the guy he was substituted for??? This happen to anyone else?

It was a weird week for me too although Bergkamp played for my team.
