I play sturmovik too! Is already too late for me to join in?
I have FB+AEP+PF, but now only FB+AEP (v2.04) installed because adding PF slowed down loading times considerably. (I'm plannig to install PF as a stand-alone later, I could play that too...)
You're playing with FB, clean install (v1.0)? Is it possible for me to install another copy of FB on my computer for playing online?
I just registered an account at ubi.com. My nick was already taken, so I'm Emeritus86.
I haven't any online games yet, can you give me some tips?
When are going to fly, then? I can fly pretty much anytime (daytime, our computer is in our living and my parents want to sleep at night...), my highschool ended and I didn't get to a university and I'm haven't got a job (yet...). Are going to fly missions or just dogfight?
What realism settings are you going to use? Full realism or something less unforgiving (considering the fact that we're pretty much beginners)
About those planes, beginners shouldn't choose jets. I still have trouble keeping them flying properly. The engines on ME262 are very sensitive and require carfefull a throttle hand. The engines burst to flames if you don't handle the throttle smootly enough. The somewhat limited manouverability of me262 makes it unsuitable for dogfighting. If you loose your main advantage, speed, then your cannon fodder. Keep your speed and altidute ant you're able to make devastating attacks. Zoom in, let the four 30mm's do their job, and then dissappear back to the higher altitudes (P-47 is similar, it's better for "zoom 'n' boom" than for dogfighting). Just remember to keep the throttle at around 80-90% when in combat so you won't leave those exhaust trails that ruin your stealth! Landings also require care, I still haven't mastered them with Me-262's. You need a long approach, making you vulnerable while landing.
I think that BF-109 is a suitable plane for beginners. Just handle it carefully on the ground and in take-offs (the landing gear is not very wide), and you'll be fine (I don't remember if FB had those K-versions. They have an awesome boost, which can destroy the engine if used improperly, though). LA-7 is great for beginners too, just don't use the "spray and pray" tactic, it runs out of ammo quick. Mustangs on the other hand have generous amounts of ammo for their 6 .50 MG's.
Focke-wulfs are great too, but they require carefull piloting. They have a nice wide landing gear and awesome armament. The bad thing about them is their tendency to stall and spin almost without a warning if pushed too far. The affective control surfaces makes you want to turn too tightly, resulting in ugly accidents.
2nd edit: I wouldn't recommend Fw-190's to beginners. They certainly require an experienced pilot. Just tried them. Bf-109 is much more forgiving and more simple to fly. You can feel when the plane is about to stall, focke wulf's are "snappy". I prefer Bf-109's.
Edit: I just tried installing another copy of FB, no luck. The setup wants to unistall the merged FB+AEP before installing anything. Do I just have to uninstall the whole smash? Doesn't matter, though. I HAD a BF-109 single player campaign, before I accidentally deleted it. I was quite pissed off. 55 completed missions, all gone.
Btw, if you're going to start flying in January 2006, then I can't participate, because of the mandatory military service, beginning at the start of January. I try with all my might to get out of there in 6 months. Shouldn't be too hard, I'm not that athletic!
A minimum of 6 months without modeling! That's going to be hard. At least we're paid. Not that much, but paid anyway.
