Got in the Navy reserves during Nam at 18. Did two years active and four years reserve. Got out for ten years, then went back in to the Seabees to retire after 22 years. It was a privlage to serve my country and its citizens.

20 when I joined the Army Reserve. 21 when I went regular. I was the 4th oldest in my Platoon at 1RTB. Stayed in RAAC serving most of my time on the old M113A1. Did Driving and Serving Instructing at the School of Armour. Finishing my time on the Bushmaster before I get shown the door on a medical discharge. Resolute and Tenacious.

Enlisted in NOV '77 the week after my 18th birthday.

Retired in JAN '04 with 26+ years active duty.

Just resigned a couple of months ago from the PMC that I've been working with since '04. Now I'm "whipping the rose bushes into shape."

Joined Aussie Army in 1991 16 years old as a 46th class Army Apprentice. Busy week that year with the Gulf War 1 starting, turning 16 and joining the Army all within 5 days. Still serving after 20 years and still loving it all.

Walked into recruiting office on 15th birthday,1970, trained as Chieftain tank gunner but also did 2 tours of N.I , plus saw various bits of planet earth that I probably would'nt have otherwise. Left in one piece but would do it again given the chance.

I was 17 when I found myself with a scary future in Michigan. School sucked and mum had too many mouths to feed. I took my high school equiv exams and passed.

Took my navy entrance exams and almost aced them. They handed me the careers book and told me to pick one.

I chose Aircraft Electrician. During boot camp I was offered Seal training and officer candidate school. Still only 17.

I made Petty Officer Third class at 18 and Petty Officer Second class at 20.

Had a Watch Captain billet and supervising 12 military policeman before I could legally drink beer.

I was supervising 25 aircraft mechs at 21.

By the time I was 24 I was third seat in a P3 Orion sub hunter with an emergency nuclear weapons release lever under my left foot.

Go Navy!

P.S. I retired at full pay at 37. They pay me 4200.00 a month....tax free....... for that fateful decision way back when. I was one of the lucky ones.

Spent 3 years in, course 8326 through Cornwallis. Finished our graduation parade on a very hot, muggy afternoon on Labor Day I believe! I was six days shy of my twentieth birthday...

Wow that was several lifetimes ago....

Time flies whether you are having fun or not I sometimes say.
