Hello!
I joined in October 1971, as a reserve ( L&R Scottish , Pembroke Ontario ,we were infantry then , now they are " bird gunners" ,( it was there that I realized the importance of the internal combustion engine , why walk , when you can drive to battle), once I finished high school , I joined the regular force November 8 ,1973 . Did a short time in the navy , didn' t cut it to be a submariner, then I went armored , Lord Strathcona's. I have seen the world , did what I wanted to do ,and am now presently in Wainwright Alberta , still in the regular forces . This year is my 34 th year in , turn 53 ears old , and still slim and trim .

I didn't know that you could enlist when you were only 16!

BTW what does it take to pass flight school in the Air Force? I assume it isn't easy, but do only the top few go on to fly fighters or does the whole class?

I signed up for the Marines the day after my 18th birthday. My mother wouldn't sign for me when I was 17.

I joined the USN when I was 22. Some people thought I was wrong for doing it, but I seriously thougth I was too young to do it sooner.

I would do it the sme way if I had to do ti all over again.

Joined at 20 while in college. Thought it would be a way to help pay for it while also serving my country and getting in shape. It's working out nicely for me, even though im a reservist. What I thought was cool, was that when I was deployed, I wasn't kicked out of school. They just postponed me a semester.

I got my draft notice in May 1966 at age 18 and joined the Air Force. Did a tour in Vietnam and got out in 1970 as a Sergeant. Joined the National Guard in 1976 as a Spec four and retired in 1992 as a Major. When I first went in we got paid about $86 a month, I get that a day in my retirement.

Enlisted at 18 in 1969. Was a lucky lottery winner, but lucked out and got accepted in Air Force ROTC. Graduated/commissioned in 1973. Active duty until Sep 1985.

At the ripe old age of 16, a group of five of my buddies, all 17 and 18 years old were joining the Marine Corps and going in as a group. Not to be left behind, with some careful forging as well as catching my Mom who had been asleep for all of two hours after working all night in a truck stop, told her I had some papers she needed to sign for school. Two days and three nights later I was standing on the "Yellow Footprints" at MCRD San Diego.

I was nineteen in basic training. I was the oldest and called "granddad". Oh to be that old now!
My 20th birthday was spent in a trench in temperatures of -20C with a cat stuck inside my parka for more warmth. The end of my teenage years.

Started ROTC at 18 and did that for 3 years but because the Army wouldn't let me join, its not on any military records, but I still count it.. Enlisted in the National Guard this past June at age 22 and been in for a couple months. Leave for basic and AIT in a couple weeks as an 89B ammunition specialist. At the moment, the recruit training unit I'm at, I'm one of the oldest there.
