Hey, I know this may sound a bit gay, but I need some acetone-free nail polish! I read somewhere on the 'net that it strips Tamiya putty right off. I tried it with some of the stuff Mercury Drug sells - it works, but melts the plastic! (prob acetone in it - the bottle didnt say) Any ideas or help would be nice!

That's impossible. Acetone is what melts the putty. You just need a more diluted type.

I suggest you go to your local sari-sari store and get the generic acetone gay manicuristas use in parlors. If that's too strong try diluting it with distilled water (read: Absolute brand water, from Asia Brewery). Or you could go to your local Watson's and get yourself the imported Cutex brand.

I tried the sari-sari acetone on Tamiya putty and it worked fine with me. Probably because cheap acetone is heavily diluted with water (ergo, less production cost for more bottles). IIRC, a 50 ml bottle is something like 10 pesos. Beat that.

That is nail polish remover and I think it's acetone free and I'm using that instead of sandpaper, just apply it to Johnson buds or Q tips and you can use directly but let the putty dry for at least 3 hours and especially for some gaps that is hard to reach by sandpaper much better to use that nail polish remover and it will not affect the plastic.Put a drops of acrylic thinner to putty to make it finer & easy to apply.

I just came from Hobbies and Comics today(Makati Cinema Square) and Roel has a lot of Evergreen strips, tubes, rods, angles, quarter round, half round, channels and I-beams of different sizes. Just thought you might want to know where to get these very useful items(especially to the scratchbuilders).

Sir Bull!

Di tayo nagkasalubong, I was there at around 3pm. I usually drop by H&C once a week, it's close proximity from school plus all the other stuff I can get from MCS(the brother asks for Ps2 games, the gf asks for DVD's) has me dropping by the place more often than not. Sa makati naman tayo mag kita kita minsan, kahit sa Glorietta man lang! hehe!

I got 2 packs of styrene tubes kanina plus some paint, though M&C's selection of Tamiya Ename's are quite old-stock.

I can't upload photo's of my scratch-built tuner-muffler since the uploading function of Armorama isn't working, for now -- maybe later pag naayos.

Their selection of Styrene sheets are pretty limited IMO, yung pang side-walk lang ata yung meron nila, other than that, the rods and strips, plus the I-beams are really plentiful.

Lil's Parksquare has more selections of styrene sheets, but last I was there medyo mahal yung presyo -- o tama lang ba talaga yung presyo dun? Since I got my tubes and when I asked the manong in the shop, M&C sells it's styrene-stuff for a flat-120Php -- Lil's ata nasa 200+ or even 300+ ATA yung ibang sheets nila.

I was at STC also a while ago, hehehe, gala kasi ako Greenhills and Makati pinupuntahan -- and my oh my, their Famo is pretty expensive! The Tamiya Famo Fritz made was going for around Php 2,500 or something around that number.

LOOKIT LOOKIT! Pls check out my scratcbuilt muffler! hehe!

Very nice Jomz! Ano yan GReddy o HKS? Now I know kung sino lalapitan ko if I ever want to build my Evo6. Roel's sheets are limited. But if it's styrene sheets you want you should get in touch with Mel Silvestre('Webster"). He knows where to buy styrene sheets na sinlaki ng plywood and in different thickness. Alam na ni Fritz yun kasi Mel showed it to him na. Baka you can make it to the monthly meeting this Sunday(Jan.11) para makilala mo na rin yung mga ibang guys. After all, you are an IPMS Phils BAC member na. Again great work! If I decide to build an RC Subaru for myself papatulong ako sa yo sa muffler. Para tumulin na rin!!!

Sir Bull!

Wala pa naman 'tong brand. I am although, trying to replicate a specific model of muffler -- next time ko na pakita, baka ma-udlot.

Di kaya malusaw to pag sinalpak naten sa RC mo? haha!

RE: Attending the meeting. IF I won't be busy with the thesis this coming week, enrollment na kasi sa Monday in DLSU, I'm sure to drop by UP.

Hi everyone,

I bought this set of drill bits last year at True Value Hardware store at Shang-EDSA mall. The brand is "General". See if they still have it.

Actually electric naman yung plano ko gawin. Mufflers kasi on RC cars are represented by stickers only so it would be nice to see an actual representation of a muffler. Makes the car look a lot better!

Ah ok ok, hmm, ayus pala si Bull eh, also into RC cars, I have a Nissan RC car here which was a gift to me a long time ago, this is I think an electric RC car which still has no remote control -- ang mahal kasi! Haha! I'll try to bring it on Sunday IF I do drop by for the meeting. I have a piece of 11/32 styrene tube here, which I think would do well to represent a muffler set-up much like the one I made, ang gawin lang naten pasukan nang 9/32 sized na tube. I'll try to make you one within this week. 1/10 scale right?

Oh yeah, guys. I was rummaging yesterday thru my supplies box, and I stumbled upon some old stock of ALDERS 2-part putty, never did get to try and test this on a kit, but yesterday I had to fill-in the rear part of the seats for my EK9 -- FUJIMI has got to be the laziest seat-makers since their seats are just hollow backed, and I don't mean yung hindi halatang "hollow-yung-likod" but most of their seats feature ejection marks! Nonetheless, they still have the widest range of selections for Tuner Cars.

So there, I tried the 2-part putty, and waited for it to dry, actually I left it for a day just to be sure (but I think it should be "handle-able" in an hour or two. Now I can sand, drill, and even cut through it without worrying about it breaking apart or whatnot -- as most putties na hindi made for modelling DO react. I remember di naman ganun kamahalan to -- purchased at ACE hardware Shangri-La.

SIR WANZE

Do they have larger-sized drill-bits, too? How about pin-vises? Would you remember how much you got the set for? I'm asking kasi baka dumaan ako sa area tomorrow, although I expect MAJOR TRAFFIC tomorrow! Dang pasukan nanaman!

Jomz,

Sorry for the late reply. I can't remember anymore how much it was. They do have larger bits available and pin vices available. You better check it out, the last time that I was there was three months ago.

Hope the info was not too late.
