Guys! To those who use oils in doing their painting, what brand do you use -- what comes as a recommendation. I picked up some tubes this afternoon, Reeves brand niya, one tube goes for around Php 31.00.
Oh, and since I'm on the subject of paints, with regards to brushes -- yung mga "elite-veterans" dito, what essential brushes would you recommend modelling? Brand-specific?

jomz the best set of brush so far is the SERIES 7 (red sable)Windsor and Newton... try picking up a couple of brush sizes 1,0 and 00 you also need a flat brush highly recommended . these are expensive brushes (here it cost $12.00 for a no.1 brush)but it's a helluva worthy investment.. syempre it also means taking care of your investment... get a good brush cleaner.

ey blitz! thanks for the reply, I got a brush cleaner from National, yung pwede mo i-suspend yung brushes on a coil-spring-of-sorts over a screen-mesh. Hmmm, where do you get Windsor and Newton brands? NBS? I'm currently using Tamiya's HF line of brushes, plus a 0000, yes that's 4 zero's, brush from Sceptre? (++)

Me, for the brushes, I use Sakura sable brushes. Medyo mahal. Yung 0 ko is 250 2 is 200 4 is 180 and 6 is around 180. Dunno the exact price, kalimutan ko na kasi eh. basta ang range nila is from P250-150. Very nice brush.

Joke lang pala to? Hehehe! I didn't get it. Maybe of the too much pressure of hard work and brain damage caused by too much solving problems and rushing for the finals.

I just remembered, yung unang AB ko yung ginagamit pag namamalantsa. Yung pang-ispray ng tubig! Seriously, I can show you my disgusting work! It really sucks but it is now labeled as an artifact. Also, my first applying of paint is by my fingers. Yup, enamels on my fingers. Dip in the bottle, then spread it on the model. You can see that it is spread evenly! No kidding!

Hehehehe oh that brings me back to days gone by. I painted my Monogram AV-8B Harrier using enamel black paint sold in hardware shops (not Boysen, but a different brand), thinned with kerosene, and applied using the Baygon sprayer. It was a camo pattern and so I used paper for masking. I was, at that time, pleased with the results.

BTW, has anyone encountered the dreaded tape residue that is uber-difficult to remove from your model? Here's a nifty product I learned from another hobby website - remove that goo with ease using Goo Gone (tm)! Goo Gone is a petroleum distillate product having a nice lemon scent. It is used to remove goo - as the name suggests. A very useful product not only limited to the hobby, you can use it to clean off gum residue, crayon drawings on the wall paper made by your kid, and other hard to clean goo. I got my Goo Gone at True Value, PowerPlant, Rockwell for P350 I think, in a 330ml bottle (I think it's 330ml). You need just a bit for it to clean the sticky residue left by the masking tape on the canopy or plastic surface. Try it, it works!

jomz, as for the rollers, di na. Ok na sa akin brushes ko. Air, 0, 2, 4, 6 brush.
Gl, thanks for the info about the tape! Alternatively, kung gusto nyong matanggal yung residue, get a cotton, get it wet and rub it. Ofcourse dapat yung paint mo is enamel kasi pag acrylic matatanggal.

I remember passing thru a gardening shop here in Paranaque a few weeks back (the DAD is a gardening freak, and had me drive that day). I saw some sort of "foliage" which is essentialy something used to cover up the tops of flower-pots so as to cover the soil, and pack in the moisture. IMO these could work as something to be used in making terrain have that "authentic" look. The texture and make-up of the "foliage" is reminiscient of a sniper's ghillie suit.

Chrome Bare Metal Foil now available at JMN for around Php 300 per sheet. Each sheet's size is roughly equivalent to half a sheet of short bond paper. Great for car chrome trim and aircraft landing gear

I saw the bare metal foil there. May alternative na ko dyan. Use Tamiya's Silver Leaf. Works the same. Also, spraying 2-3 times more will give a much shiny effect

Ahh, you're not speaking from a car-modelers point of view young-soldier. BMF is one of the most useful, if not most convenient way of doing chrome-trimming. Your supposed Silver-Leaf alternative is only applicable, IMO, on mufflers, and major engine-bay parts, tire-rims and such. Chrome trimming is way too fine to be able to have a very solid finish without BMF.
Jeep -- tagal na available yan diba? Or are these new arrivals? Parang nag-mura, since last time I visited JMN, they were selling for oh, around Php 400 a pop. "Fragile" stuff I hear, sobrang fine kasi nang pagkagawa, daw.

I'm not exactly sure about the price. I was drooling at the Revell TF102 that I forgot almost everything else

Bagong dating lang ata ang BMF dun so get it while it's there

If you were payiong attention to Jeepney's post, you would've noticed you were being redundant with posting the price, since HE has already posted the price, eh.
What's the current stipulation regarding oil-figure-painting, do I have to primer the surface, airbrush the figure with flat-paint (for those without airbrushes, how do you do it). Recent attempts on my part, well, I'm not satisfied with -- plus they dry a bit longer than what I've read around, I do mine on fresh plastic eh. Hehe! Experiment Experiment!
