jomz, i'm afraid na hindi "branded" and styrene sheet. it' s locally produce -our very own) a sheet of styrene is about 3' x 8' so you can just imagine how long it will last. when i buy plastic sheet i asked them to roll it , or you can personally ask them to cut it . i am not sure with they're price list .the last the time i bought was 2 years ago. actually it's not just McDowell who sells -HIGH IMPACT POLYSTYRENE sheet. if you have time you can check out the yellow pages under "plastic suppliers" the only problem i had before is getting a .2mm plastic sheet so I called a couple of manufacturers and found one near our place. they managed to make a roll -about 20 kilos about 5000 pesos.. it's for my former office.
the only setback with our styrene sheet is that it gets yellowish for a period of time. unlike evergreen or imported plastic sheet. maputi pa rin. pero price wise syempre sa atin pa rin.
GI- i guess your budget is more than enough..

ahhh, wow! laki niyan ah, err...about the yellow-ing, eh diba pinipinturahan naman naten yan? hehe! so I guess non-factor for us yan...i hope.

tama ka dyan sa Dental Supplies, I'm currently on the look-out for a scriber, yung todo pino. Plus I think dentists might have access to some nifty casting (for spare/custom parts) tools and "solutions". hmm

OOPPPS... i am terribly sorry .. this is just 3' by 4.5 ' sorry if i get you excited there..but still it will last you a lifetime.. like I said our locally made plastic sheet tends to turn yellowish(signs of brittleness???!!!)for a long period.but never have any problems with it. But quality is almost the same with evergreen. I don't know if they have porex sheets back there i always use this material.. its almost the same as plastic sheet only problem is its adhererance to glue.. the only glue for this stuff is cynoacrylate glue and rubber cement(rugby) advantage is its easy to cut...

Pardon my naiveness, where is Rizal Ave, Avenida, too!? Hehe!

Oh yeah, for the car modelers, after my long search for the perfect N1-type exhaust making materials, I've finally found a perfect match. Mind you, I've tried all kinds of straws and hoses, too! Get one of those syphon-hand-pumps for automotives, which goes for around Php 75.00 pesos in your local ACE Hardware store, then head on to BIO RESEARCH get their Php 5/meter small hose. You're all set! I've tried so many combinations of straws (starbucks, jollibee, mcdonalds, etc.) and more often than not a considerable gap between the outer hose and inner straw could be seen. This combination (syphon-hose and smaller hose) seems to fit together very well. I'll try to post some pics as soon as I get hold of the digital camera.

Oh yeah, I use kerosene for my thinner. Just so you guys know! hehe! All the thinning goodness, minus the corrosive fear, plus 100% flamability...err..yeah!

Did a Recon mission last Saturday. Happy to say it was a huge success! Marnie's directions to Armoratic, este, Aromatic, was right on the money. I got meself a cool brass-plated pinvise (Php 145), 2 1/32 inch bits for Php 14.25 each, and 2 1/64 inch bits for Php 14.25 each. 1 each of the bits will be destined for BISIGI's tool pile. Will get a lot more when I go there again.

The bits work like a dream! I practiced boring holes on my Tamiya 25 Pounder kit and I made 8 clean holes in less than 30 minutes. I didn't have to force the bit into the plastic. The bits were sharp enough to do the job unaided. Besides, if I break a bit they're not that expensive.

Will go on another Recon mission for the plastic sheets and chloroform. Rizal Avenue, incidentally, is the street where the LRT runs along after it crosses the river from Taft Avenue. I don't know if it's also called Avenida Rizal

It's not advisable to bring your car there. In fact it's insane although it's supposed to be safer than Timog Ave. Park your car at La Salle, ride the LRT to Doroteo Jose Station, then walk back the way you came 'til you come to a Philippine Rabbit terminal. Aromatic (or Aroma Time Center) is right across the bus station.

Ahem... park your car where? La Salle? Are you crazy? #:-) Remember, the only difficult thing in DLSU is the parking #:-) (I'm speaking from experience, being a product of that place :-) ).

Nah... actually, it's become much much better now, with the multi-level parking in the sports compleks, a vacant lot which used to be a building, and other areas I reckon. Plus, there's an indoor swimming pool to boot if I'm not mistaken, am I right Jomz, SR, Lattex? I really wasn't able to tour the Razon (?) building in my time.

Jomz: The drill bits Jeep got round out to .3mm and .6mm IIRC.

Yup yup! That's true, DLSU just recently bought the lot in front of the Razon Bldg -- which it seems is turning out to be a huge parking lot. Plus there's the EGI Taft Tower, which has 2 floor parking spaces that charges 30 for the whole day. Very convenient mind you since hindi ka na maghahabol sa oras sa pag takbo from the beach to DLSU, tapos kung umulan man ayos lang! There's also a new building, the Yuchengco Bldg. a.k.a Motel nang DLSU hehe, well until the D.O office found out what "happens" there.

Ah yes, the beach. They still call that, eh? And the motel... just heard that now. Maybe my radar wasn't tuned right when I was there.

BTW, in case you missed my edit post above, the bits Jeep got measure around .3mm and .6mm IIRC.

Every morning I tried to recon out chinitas in bathing suits Mmmmmm BATHING SUITS! Plus, often times, spot chinitas in very short shorts with a very white legs to boot in the football field!

Oh my... DLSU has turned into a whore house... (sorry, I think that's too strong)

Goodness... it's become randier there. Could it be the food? :-) Speaking of food, that reminds me of a bio lab study we did back then. Different teams would go at a particular place in DLSU (e.g. Eng Gate, North Gate, South Gate, etc.) with a prepared petri dish and stayed there for 30 minutes. After that we headed back to the lab and stored the petri dishes. The team that went to the cafeteria (in front of Miguel Hall - forgot the name of that cafeteria - College Canteen?) had the HIGHEST CONCENTRATION of BACTERIA . I'm not sh1tting ye. After that experiment, few of us went back to eat there except in dire situations.

Maybe a concentration of randy bacteria at the cafeteria turned DLSU into what it is today. Then again, maybe it's just the usual news and I didn't get a whif of it in my radar scope (considering I didn't spend much time socializing there, perching meself at Eagle's Nest with my binoculars surveying Manila Bay during lunch break when my favorite place at the library was occupied or re-arranged). Same randiness happens in the parking lots inside cars (yup - one somewhat famous mestiza and her boyfriend were caught in the act doing it in the car - or in the chem lab according to one version). Also at the roof top tennis court (at night daw, kaya na-i-padlock yung door leading there when night falls). Then there are the other nook-and-crannies in St. La Salle Hall which I reckon would be perfect to do some mischievous things. And, oh yes, the audio visual rooms as well I reckon. Any place where you could get "too much privacy" and darkness would be suspect, I guess. Hey, that sounds exactly like places where spiders thrive. #:-)

Hey, Jeep and those of BluFor, does the same situation happen in Ateneo? Yup, this is a serious query, and where are the "hotspots"? You may want to share considering we've been revealing some of DLSU's very "green" side of things.

Concious Walk? Is this in the new building what used to be the old gym?

Wow. Talk about going uber-OT in this thread!

SR: It's called "the beach" because IIRC it's like one of those parking spaces in beach resorts - or so that's how it was explained to me when I was a freshman.

Goodness... enough of my rambling!

BTT

If you're that desperate to make minor cast copies, try using one of those cheap (around a hundred bucks) tubed silicone RTV used for automobile gaskets. Stinks to high heaven, they could work, in a pinch, as small, simple, one-piece molds for things you'd like to copy, like hinges, bags, etc. etc. Make sure though to coat your master in petroleum jelly like Vaseline before pouring the RTV on it - or else it'll stick to it. And, oh yes, also make sure you work in a highly ventilated area, with a mask, because this type of RTV emits acetic acid, i.e. smells awful like vinegar. As it is, I reckon it is a WMD that, because of its important use in auto repairs, was able to pass under UNSCOM. Preferably, you spread it on a surface, say cardboard, then you get your master which you've coated with Vaseline, then press said prepared master onto RTV. Leave it there until the RTV hardens (depends on how much RTV you placed - a lot means a curing time of several days, just a pinch and it cures in an hour). Then remove master and, if you see any imperfections on the mold, apply a weeeeeeeeeeeee bit of the RTV, then re-press the master again and let cure. When done, you have a nice little mold. Now to make casts, you can use the hot glue from the glue gun (the glue gun method I heard first in this site), or epoxy putty like miliput (or any kind of epoxy putty like the ones used for plumbing), plain epoxy glue (if you're that desperate), or even Tamiya putty or Mr. Putty. Let cure and you have a copy of the master. I did this in desperation when I ran out of "real" RTV ("real" because such RTV is the one really used for making molds and has its own bottle of catalyst which speeds curing in minutes) and resin as well to make copies of little hinges for my Cold War Campaign project. The silicone RTV you can get in most (if not all) hardware stores - Ace, Handyman, True Value. I got mine in CJee Hardware at Phase 1 BF Homes (a clear variant) and one at Value Point at Jorge Bocobo St., Manila (a red variety type).

However... if you're willing to plug down close to a thousand bucks for "real" RTV and resin, tell me because I know someone who sells the stuff.

Also, in the "Power Tools" tip, again, if you're desperate (like me), try using your home power drill as substitute for a Dremel (or similar) motor tool. You're using only the trigger and motor of the power drill, and just attach on its end the tool you'll use (e.g. a polisher or whatever you call it). Heavy on the hand but works substantially well. IMO at least.

You're using only the trigger and motor of the power drill, and just attach on its end the tool you'll use (e.g. a polisher or whatever you call it). Heavy on the hand but works substantially well. IMO at least.

Oooooooh! Pagabi nga ako minsan! Nyak nyak nyak nyak {maynak} :-)

Concious walk is an alternative name for SJ Walk, kasi sabi nila na it's normal to feel "concious" when you walk thru it, right right -- lalo na siguro kung babae ka.

Galing ng thread! May branching hehe #:-)

I've heard some talk from the BlueFor side of the equation. The usual suspects are the AV rooms, the Comm Dept (isolated, quiet, dark, and has its own portal to the Netherworld), the parking lots (we have a lot of them hehe ), behind the buildings, under the stairs, and under the trees near the long walk to Gate 2 (the administration was kind enough to provide concrete tables and benches). The dorms also have their share of sticky stories especially in the common areas (don't ask about fags and queers). Every ground level corridor is a "Conscious Walk" because a lot of people have tambayans there. The best site for babe watching is the Soc. Sci. Bldg (it's also called "Shangri-La" because of it's weird design and bevy of beautiful sights) because the Psych and Foreign Languages Depts are housed there. If you can stand the wind and the smog from yosi smoke you may also pass by the Conio Bench and get your day's fill of male hormones.

BTT: Thanks Marnie! I'll update you after my next Avenida Recon. That place is modeler's heaven!
