Sooooooooooooooooo.....

Jack is back on track,

What is it that keeps us comming back, is it the happy, healthy atmosphere, an escape from an otherwise miserable world (watch out for wolves) or simply the fact that it is the best modelbuilder site on the internet? I,ve been absent/AWOL for a month now, and the world (Armoramaworld) seems to have turned round without any intervantion on my behalf.
The two guys,(wearing red brassards), with yellow "MP" on them, on either side of me call themselves chasers and tell me if I don't start contributing that they shall hand me over to either for captains Mass or to the FBI!!

I do have a question however, which may be of interest. Having attended four different shows and competitions in the past four weeks (that's 4 for 4 Yow!) I happened to notice a strang phenomenon. It appears there are less and less visitors to different events. My survey is a s follows:

1. Is this an international phenomenon?
2. What are the causes?
a. Too many events scheduled too closely together?
b. General waning of interest?
c. both of the above.

Jack is Back #:-)

In a completely mindless and selfish manner, I've decided to try and rejuvinate my earlier thread, in an effort to have the longest thread in computer history! So now then... Duh what was the question? #:-)

Oh Yeah,

How does your research balce work, comparing written and electronic reference materials?

Now that's a fair question isn't it?

Now.....Second. Jack! I just love it when you talk in the 'third-person'....... #:-)

To address your first inquery. I think that you think that you're attending these shows, when in reality you're not. One of your other 'personalities' are going to the shows, probably the one who sees the glass as 'half-empty' instead of 'half-full'.......
Try this, next time send the 'optimist' Jack to the show and see what 'he' says.......O.K.?

your friend.

Thirdly, to indulge your "...completely mindless, and selfish manner ", regarding the balance of written, or printed research material vs. electronic, or web material. My personal answer would be about 50%/50% at present time. This persentage represents the time spent, not the amount of material I have. I already have a fairly sizable amount of printed material (just can't beat the hands-on) available. But the web offers 'quick' answers to unique questions. And that's generally how I use it. I will also use the web to research specific projects of interest such as my recent search for the M113 bridge-layer variant.

Now that is an interesting subject Tread!!! (Jack the optimist). I find thateven though I use the web, IU still require the old fashioned printed matter, and about 9/10's of what I steal, ooops, borrow off the net, gets reformatted and condensed into printed form.

Welcome back CaptJack and their were less people at the show I attened last month but as the state of affairs with jobs and such maybe few can afford to indulge their desire to buy say an $400.00 model from Accurate armor and boy she is one beauty. Trend might change as time goes by ,but then again only time will tell

Thanks Sgt. Treef, Yes the problem is that there are the middle men, importers, which invarialbly eases access but at a price. Unfortunately the cost of resin (brute) continues to rise, as does the cost of other materials (rubber etc). Furthermore, the drop, not only in sales, but also in the number of people practicing the hobby, is already in significant decline. We need to get the young involved, to reassess their needs, and be able to make what we have to offer, competitive with all the existant eye candy which currently abounds. i have "taken on board two local kids (16) and they are firmy hooked, but tyou need to follow up with the sme enthusiasme, and perseverence. There is also a sacrifice involved, I give them significant discounts across the board, wjich is not only logical, but good business sense as well. Other manufacturers should be pushed into such initiatives I believe. I take them to shows when they are nearby, open my library for their perusal, and hand over magazines, and assorted tiems for their use. Believe me any "sacrifice" is quickly forgotten, in the light of theier gratitude and the glow they get from that "modelling high".

Bearing this in mind I'd like to throw a suggestion out to the powers at large. Jim why not set up an album called Juniors corner or similar. I think like my idea for rougues gallery, it might be stimulating.

Thanks chris. I thinl we are all mad, but only a few of us cope with it on a daily basis. It's part of what I call the thin line syndrome.
