Tread,
Well said. And a very good reason to enjoy this hobby. For me it's always about the history. Probably by WWII will always be tops on my list for material. The sheer scale of it was unparalelled in the history of man. Even by today's standards.

Cheers,
Jim

Tread,

Well said. My feelings about modelling are similar, ever since I can remember. I have often so lost myself in these scenarios that I completely lost track of time, modelling into the wee hours without realizing it. The feelings of being there, of experiencing what the soldiers and flyers (sailors, too) experienced, the cold, the fear, etc. have brought me to look beyond the facts of the story, and I feel I understand what really happened better than most people who weren't there.

I am a bit shy about discussing this aspect, even in this friendly forum. A good number of years back, when I was already considered rather strange, I made this feeling the subject of a writing assignment. The response from my classmates was not very understanding, and my reputation for weirdness was enhanced for many months (like it needed the help!). Since that time, I keep these sorts of insights to myself, for the most part. Bravo to you for saying it here, and I for one agree with your thoughts.

Excellent Tread. I thought I was the only wierdo in town!! Guess I'll have to share the podium. Don't worry there's plenty of room there. Originality is not a vice (hey quote me on that will ya?!) Those who think differently alter the way in which we perceive the world. I think we all have a bit of the Stephen King far-sightedness, or we wouldn't be involved in this venture. In fact I sometimes beleive, rightly or not, that- while we adore what we do- we are attracted to this microcosm of the universe by some more profound undefinable common bond, based on who we are, what we do and how we think.

Let's think of Armorama.com as a sort of personality shaping experience. I know I benefit greatly from the positive contacts here!

I've been depressed for a year and now, two years after it started, the dream of building a model again lifts me up again.

Hang on to the dreaming part if you feel down, and act when the dream gave you creativity.

The most important thing : "Never stop dreaming and just enjoy the fun parts of the hobby" put bold text here

The Zen of Modelling is individual in execution... we all have our motivations for spending time alone with bits of plastic and paints. Intereactions like those here on Armorama take it to the level of shared experience, which ratifies or reinforces our own feelings toward the work. How is that for psyshobabble? All I know is that modelling fulfulls a creative desire and need...

Modelling, in the end, is an art. The art comes from within us, while the science can be learned. Armorama is inspiration for our art and instruction for the science...

Something I enjoy about modeling is that it's all about telling a story.
When I build and paint that plane, I want people who look at it to imagine themselves in it. In fact, each time, I do imagine
myself as the pilot... just as I used to when I was a kid.
And that's why I like dios so much ! How can you better tell a story ? That's why I always have to imagine
the whole scenario before I start building my dio. And I want the scene to be as lively as possible.

I also practise photography, and it's more or less for the same reasons : telling stories.
Armorama helps me to find ideas, inspiration ! And that's why I like it so much !

I didn't choose any violent sport, I prefer rollerscating. I'll even be taking part to the 24 hours of the Mans rollerskating race
in a month !!!! But well, I guess that lifting my paintbrush just wasn't enough sport for me.

penpen is also a weirdo
that's logical because penpen, before being my name, is the name of a penguin

deus machina est

I'll let Jack have the longest signature

what i like about model building is that it is an art form.If we all built the same model with the same materials .No 2 models would be exactly alike

You are me, and I am you, and we are all together. See how they run like.....

Sometimes it seems that when you begin a project, it takes off on it's own and develops a course that you follow. You no longer dictate the direction, but follow your instincts. Like a well known piece of theatre, the music to a concert or a line you heard somewhere long ago, the project rolls ever onward guided by a sense of déjà-vu. Anyways, that's how it happens to me.

If the world were sane, then we would indeed be mad. However the worls is mad, as we all know, and we are the only sane ones. Harbouring ourselves from the storm, within our shelter of miniature paradise.

if i am in my own mind, is it the right one.
if i see something clearly, is it because i have my glasses on.
if i am pondering on something, is it because i don't know how to do it.
if i am intelligent, am i fooling anyone.
if i am humble, am i a doormat.
and, if i am writing this down, why?
