Well this is the next step ,finishing the engine room/ramp area.Most all the parts have been made but now it must all be put together.Things will slow down a bit from here on in.The carpenters shop,office ,and the W/C coal bin areas were mostly already built ,when I lighted and attached the modules to the main hangar.
This area is very interesting as there is a lot going on.I also will be able to finish the hangars L/H back wall with shelves etc...
When this is completed the main hangars components ,including Jenny,will be next.

Staining wood
Someone contacted me the other day who is building an Albatros 1/16 Model Airways kit and he was having problems with the stain not covering the glue marks on the wood.So I thought that I would take this opportunity to help others before they also have this problem.
The best approach is to stain the wood before attempting any gluing at all.I use an alcohol based stain that comes in a marker with two ends ,one end a fine writing type and the other a broad marker type.Prismacolor PM-70,sand color is the one I use and should be available in art stores.
Most of the wooden parts for the kit come attached to a laser cut board,which is great for our purposes as they can be stained while still attached.I also take this opportunity to spray laquer these parts after staining. Hope this helps!

Now where does it all go?

Some progress in the engine shop.
I am working on this corner of the engine shop at the R/H backwall looking out into the main hangar.The figure looks a little shiny due to the low angle lighting.It was originally painted to be lit from above.That is the stovepipe in the foreground.
The large screw above the pilots head holds the main hangars backwall together and will be covered with siding when finished.A lot of these shots will be impossible to take once the front wall of the engine shop is on.
As you guys can see I am really enjoying this new camera,what I really like is the instant gratification that is rare in our business!

Hi! I guess that you guys realize by now most of these pics are
just fantasy shots that I have taken just for the fun of it and have
nothing to do with the finished "Memories of Flight School"
diorama.Most of these shots will never be available to me when
the diorama is finished.Using the diorama as a background for
picture taking,especially in a enclosed setting,the possibilities
are endless for creative picture taking.As you can imagine I
am taking full advantage of this while I can.

These models are by no means finished,I am just fooling around with lighting and composition in these fantasy shots.It looks a little too staged for my liking but it gives you guys an idea how much fun it is to work with a closed set where you have complete control of the lighting.An old barn or hangar works for a lot a subject matter both old and new.The neutral shades of gray and beige allow the viewer to concentrate on the main subject matter.Cheers! Another corner of the shop.
I worked on this corner of the engine shop today!Figuring out where to place stuff sure takes time.Then I pin each piece,glue it down and finish the weathering.All the nail holes look a little overdone at this point but believe me it all blends in OK when viewed at a normal distance.
My adopted grandson (the kid next door) made the sitting bench for me.Pretty darn good for a 12 year old I would say!
