I do agree with Ken - War of the Worlds is one of my all-time favs too.

I might be alone, but my favorite SCI-FI movie is David Lynch's Dune.

I have no problems with it at all, even though it has been completely shot down for the last 20 years and panned by the critics. I still like to watch it. And it still tugs the strings to see ole' Jean Luc Picard leading his men in the big battle scene and yelling, "Long live Duke Leto!" And you know he's going to a no-win, you-will-die battle. Yet he still goes...

I watched it and the remake, and I don't understand what the flak was about either. You're right though - Lynch's movie has been getting panned for a really long time...
