Don't know if this has been posted before.

Personally my favorite to date is Saving Private Ryan. The realism of battle alone is the reason I like that movie.
Also: Dirty Dozen, Tora Tora Tora, Big Red One. I liked Pearl Harbor from the point of the attack on, the first half of the movie was snooze city.

I agree with all those, with SPR at the top of the list. The only other one that really belongs near the top, at least for me, is Kelly's Heros!!! ..."stop with the negative waves...Moriarity!"

In fact, "Kelly's Heroes" was so good that Jaguar thought to make a 1/35th figure set from the movie - two seperate sets. They look pretty darn good! :-)
They are: JA63123-"Kelly's Entrepreneurs", and JA63134 "Oddball Tank Crew".
You can check em out for yourselves here:

Ken You hit the jackpot!
I do agree w/ you about Kelly´s heroes, it´s very good, indeed. But Saving Private Ryan was the most spectacullar and reallistic movie I´ve ever seen.
And don´t forget the Menphis Belle - Flying Fortress.

How about ' Hell is for Heroes' with 'my man' Steve McQueen? Wasn't the best movie, but Steve was too cool as usual.
And ' Sands' with the " Duke' ?

Few of 'em huh?

Saving Private Ryan, Big Red One, Dirty Dozen, and Kelley's Heros are my favorite.

I no its not WWII, but Back Hawk Down and John Waynes The Green Berets are the best post WWII films to me.

For me, and in no particular order, Saving Private Ryan, Bridges of Toko Ri, Kelly's Heroes, Das Boot and All Quiet on the Western Front, the television remake from the 80s.

I'm in for Tora, Tora, Tora and Kelly's Heroes - with Sands of Iwo Jima close behind...

OH....I just thought of another one of my favorite war movies. "Heaven knows Mr. Allison." a marine, a nun and a desert island, what more could you ask for?

In my never-ending endeaver to find all things on the WWW, mostly military stuff, I came upon this site which has a forum on this very same topic...Best All Time War Movie. If you thought we had something going on here about "best" check this one out:

http://www.military.com/ecommerce/marketplace/more_commerce?filename=war_movies.htm

Not only are they debating the "best", but they have each catagorized for each major conflict, which lists the winners of each!
Pretty cool site for all things military too.

Mine is definitely "A Bridge Too Far," followed by "In Harm's Way" as a close second.

Saving Private Ryan, of course... I have it on DVD, too. Have you guys seen the Thin Red Line? We had it in theatres at the same time as Saving Pvt. Ryan, and the Line got more positive critics.. I found it very strange...

Mario, yes...The Thin Red Line, Sean Penn, Nick Nolte. It was pretty good. A little slow on the acton but I think it was more about the soldier's personal struggles in war than about the war itself. Still, it was rather good.
Another one I liked was Hamburger Hill.

For me, I would have to say Saving Private Ryan. But I liked Enemy at the Gates a lot too. And I have always been a fan of the old movies. I look at them with different eyes now though... "Hey, that's not a Tiger, that's a T-34....." LOL

Enemy at the Gates... liked that one. I missed Behind Enemy Lines.. how's that one? The reviews wasn't so good, but I wanted to see it cause it is happening in my neighbourhood.. I guess I'll have to rent it someday...

I liked Platoon and Apocalipse Now, too. (these aren't WW2 but anyway... )

I thought Behind Enemy Lines was not WWII either. Or is it? I have not seen it and we don't have a lot of trailers on TV here....

No, it is modern day. He is the back seater of an F/A-18 Hornet. Owen Wilson is the star and he's been in other films such as Anaconda, Meet the Parents, Shanghai Noon, kind of a blond haired, California surfer-type dude.

If you have not seen "Breakout" with John Agar and David Brian, try it. Another little known but super flick is "The Tanks Are Coming." Now the story line on these films is just short of terrible, but they have super shots of period equipment and uniforms. If you really want to see a thriller with great authenticity may I highly recommend "Operation Daybreak." marvelous flick on the Reinhard assaination.
