well for you what was the film that summed up your generation?. For me it was trainspotting set in Edinbrough in the late 80's early 90's and I could relate to alot of the topics covered in the story line some really great funny bits in it as well like Spud with the sheet indident worth a watch if you've never seen it it was based on a book by Irvine Welsh and his books are worth a read as well. Be warned though both film/books are thrather gritty

Being an 80's teen I always have a strong connection with the Breakfast Club. Or even the low budget Heavy Metal Parking Lot.

I would have to go with The Breakfast Club. That movie pretty much covered it all. From the Princess to the Weirdo and all the in -betweens.

Early 80s guys like me will likely say "Fast Times at Ridgemont High". Big hair rules!

I'm 47 and the era I relate to the most is early 70s. For that it's got to be The Big Chill. The music is great, and the people in it who went on to be really great actors is pretty special. Even Kevin Costner was in it, as the corpse that was being dressed at the beginning of the film.

Mr. Hand: Hey, you in my class?"?
Spicolli: I am today.

or

Mr. Hand: Am I hallucinating here? Just what in the hell do you think you're doing?
Jeff Spicoli: Learning about Cuba, and having some food.

Yep, Fast Times ruled, Bob.

Helter Skelter...the end of the Hippies and the beginning of the nutzo era. Frightening isn't it. I'ld also throw in American Graffitti, Animal House, and Woodstock.

Ciao everyone,
I with Bob and Keenan on this one. I got one pass during Boot camp for an afternoon, and I went and saw "Fast Times." Van Halen music is now playing in my head. (Running with the devil, to be specific!)
Ciao for now

It's got to be "Animal House" 'cause I attended college in a VERY hung over manner.

I was a bit young when I saw The Holy Grail for it to be my era, but that would be the movie that I think of on this subject.

Other than that Top Gun, I was in training to be a F-16 jocky at the time of Top Gun, but my eyes let out so I had to give it up. Haven't known what to do with life since then...

One day in high school, I blew off a day of classes, had an awesome day with a beautiful brunette (unfortunately NOT my girlfriend) and my slightly neurotic pal. We spent the day doing lots of kookie stuff, including -I swear on my life- seeing Ferris Bueller's Day Off in the theatre in town!

Odd that, huh?

Ciao everyone,
I would like to submit that this movie didn't sum up my generation, but it was funny as heck......

CADDY SHACK!!

I still think that Rodney Dangerfield was the funniest human being in that particular movie.
Ciao for now

Class of 79... For me it was "Animal House". The influence of this movie kept me in trouble in college and ultimately contributed to my joining the Marines. I needed some discipline, man!

I would have to say Sling Blade. The setting of that movie reminded me of the town I grew up in as a kid. Strange, but yeah. Clerks reminds me of the after school part when I was working at the video store :-) Didn't play hockey on the roof, but I did get asked a bunch of dumb questions. (How much are the $.99 movies?)

Every time I see Clerks I laugh because it was filmed not too far from where I lived (grew up and lived in NJ before moving to TX 2 years ago) and Smith is a homeboy from the Jersey shore.

The big movies during my teen years were To Sir with Love and the Graduate. The most modern movie that sums up my era is the Mel Gibson movie, We Were Soldiers.

We Were Soldiers was such a great movie, the pairing of Gibson and Elliot worked very well. It was weird to see ol' Sam without his trademark mustache but even without it he was great.

One of my favorite lines from him was when Gibson said he knew how Custer felt, "Custer was a p**** sir, you ain't!" lol

I am a newbie here but I am an oldie in life, turn the big 50 next year. My choices for movies that I really related to, would be "Animal House" and "Diner". More recent film "Van Wilder". :-)

Howdy fellas,

My odometer has as many miles on it I think as animal's and HalfYank's. So, in an effort to reply to the original question, I thought about it, and the first movie that popped into my head was 'Easy Rider'.
In my youth, I felt very 'close' to that movie.

In fact, if ya want to start quoting lines from films, all I can sya is; "Don't get me started"....

Tread.
