Howdy All !
Yep it's me, Tread. My apologies for the Topic Title, but it was intended to get your attention, as well as a probably true statement of how our Gunnie, or Mr. Jim Lewis, is going to feel about me 'spilling the beans' about him........but I honestly feel that the big lug won't do it himself, soooooooo, I'm going to do it for him!
The vast majority of the membership here is, I'm sure, aware of Gunnie's talents as an accomplished modeler, and a devoted mentor to those of us (me included) who need help now and again to advance our own modeling skills, or to ferret out some bit of information pertaining to our 'new' build-up. What the majority of you don't know is how insufferably humble this 'bugger' can be! I could name more than a handful of instance's where Gunnie has decided to stay in the background rather than step on 'someone else's parade', or steal someone else's thunder, but I won't be selfish with your time spent reading this post and simply get to the point!
As most of you are aware, NBC reporter David Bloom, who was an extremely likable, and seasoned reporter for the network, died unexpectantly while on assignment with the 3rd Infantry Division as an 'embedded' reporter in the recent conflict in Iraq, covering Operation Iraqi Freedom for the network. NBC News was devastated by this sudden loss and is now putting together a memoriam to honour his devoted service and his contributions. The NBC News Memorial Committee is building a memorial at their worldwide headquarter's in New York City that will be dedicated to all those journalist's who have lost their lives covering news stories from around the world.
Included as one of the centerpiece's in this permanent memoriam will be a 135th scale version of the 'Bloommobile', a mobile satellite truck based on the Ford F-450 Super Duty truck that was named after David Bloom. After considering a multitude of accomplished and professional modeler's and museum miniaturist's from around the country, NBC News finally made a decision on who to award the commission of building the 'Bloommobile' to..................
our GUNNIE !!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, I don't know about you ladies and germs, but I'd be yelling this from the bloody rooftops!!!!!
But, you know what Gunnie does?? He keeps it to himself and keeps a lid on the whole matter because he doesn't want to sound like he's bragging. Ya know what Gunniemeister?......it's O.K. to do a little bragging once in awhile. Rumour has it, it's good for the soul........
The guy drives me NUTS!!!
Anyway.....that's the skinny. As I said, if the guy won't do it himself, I'm going to do it for him! He can just get mad at me..................don't care... (that's me sticking my tounge out at Gunnie #:-) ).
Tread.
Ohh! By the way, I almost forgot. Not only does he have the commission to build the 'Blookmobile', but since a 1/35th scale of the Ford F-450 doesn't exist, he's going to have to scratchbuild it!! Not only that, but he's got till Feburary 15th to complete the task! #:-) #:-)
And finally, to put 'cream in his coffee', he received official notification of being awarded this assignment on his Birthday a few weeks back........nice birthday present.
An official Congratulations on your accomplishment Gunnie !!!!!!!!!!!!
NOW........get started! You don't have much time!!!!!!!

From a humble redneck in Alabama, CONGRATULATIONS Gunnie

so why not strut for us a little?
youve earned it
and many of us are better modelers for what youve shared with us
Shout from the nearest rooftop
and post pics of the "BloomMobile"
Happy Thanksgiving all
PS -
If I'm right (big IF) this Gunnie and YodaMan keep the lowly SciFi section afloat for those of us that enjoy delving into that facet of our hobby as well.
Many thanks to Gunnie, YodaMan, and Jim for having a SciFi area of an AFV site.
Overall, Armorama is THE SITE for scale modeling.
There are many great ones, but this one is the best.

Wow,this is great Gunnie!
Well,I know what scale it is going to be in.
Do you think Eduard or Aber will have photetch for it?
Are you going for a camoflage scheme for it,or just generic desert dust?
What year truck was it?
Will you make masters and cast resin,or scratch build from styrene sheets?
What will you use for tires?
Do you have pictures of stowage?
What unit will it be marked for?
Will the doors open and close?
Does Hornet make a David Bloom head you could use?

Congrats Gunnie. Can't wait to see the build. Anybody have a photo of the actual truck? My wife tells me she saw it on the tube during the war. Didn't see too much TV from the seat of my HMMWV in the Iraqi desert, so I missed it.

WTG Gunnie!!
After seeing some of his work on his webpage- I can imagine the NBC brass talking amonst themselves-
"hmmm, here's that scale model we commissioned- very nice..."
"Amazing detail! how did he do it?"
"Incredible!!....but, why are there machine guns sticking out of all the windows?"
again- WTG Gunnie!!!
