Setting up my first planet on Astrowars. Can I cancel my Production Point allocation or do I have to wait 4 hours 'til my Factory is done?

Ah yes, finally someone who has expressed interest in the game. :-)

Jeep: No, you cannot cancel your spend PPs. What planet/system are you? I'm at Alpha Alshain. My homeworld is AA1. My colonies are AA3, AA4, and AA5. I am now on my way to attack an unsuspecting Frenchman's homeworld who has been idle for 11 hours with 7 battleships, 63 destroyers and 14 transports. MWUHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Tip: Concentrate on spending your points at your factories and farms. For science, I suggest start with social until you get a level 5. Leave the following science categories behind for the first few days of the game: biology, economy, energy. Once you are at Social level 10, immediately focus science on Physics because as soon as you can hit 15 for Physics, then you can build battleships.

On buildings, fortify your starbase as much as you can, but do not forget upgrading your factories until they reach at least level 4 or 5.

As for warships, concentrate on destroyers first. When your culture, science, and PPs are enough, start building colony ships and send three at an uninhabited world in your system.

Have fun! It is very addictive.

WinXP on a gaming PC???!!! Perish the thought. Go for Win2k or better yet Win98. XP takes up a lot of precious space and memory just to run itself. And if you don't have a freakingly fast internet connection you can't get the new 200Mb patch/service pack to solve your XP problems. Most new PCs come with XP installed though. My new office PC did. Reformatted and installed Win2k. Never looked back.

PS: I don't hate Micro$oft

I think you gotta have an XP processor for you to run XP games. Anyway, I'm no PC expert just an enthusiast.
Question about gaming guys, what controller do you use besides a joystick when playing games in your PC?

Mouse (actually, trackball - no living space on the desk) and keyboard only, other than the juystek (which the PC is currently rejecting ). The only games I have don't need a console box type controller - SimCity4 (turns out to be warez, Jomz Kaya di ko ma-update), Astrowars (hehehe purely web-based - see my previous post), SB (juystek recommended, but I'm getting used to just the keyboard and mouse).

Hmm, I don't think the logic behind the XP-Processor-to-run-XP-games isn't all that correct. Hehe! Unless this is a trap of sorts, na nagloloko lang si cardinal?

I use a gamepad, joystick plus I've 2 Steering Wheels for both PC and PS2.

Jomz: Hehe seems you're burning the midnight oil as well. My interest was piqued by that MP3 player your friend is marketing. Can you share the details?

Like I said guys I'm no computer expert. I replaced my old PC (windows 98) with an HP 320n which has the windows XP which I now use. I'm not really into PC gaming but maybe because of a bit of boredom I decided to venture into it. Since I think that I have what they call the "carpal tunnel syndrome" & to aleviate the pain that I'm feeling in my right hand I decided to ask around for gadgets used in PC games besides the mouse, trackball, & keyboard. I came up with this http://web.belkin.com/support/download/files/F8GPC100_man.pdf " TARGET="_blank"> http://web.belkin.com/support/download/files/F8GPC100_man.pdf
I dunno if you guys have tried this speed pad but I'm just about to. :-)

Cardinal: CTS?!?!? I had a serious wrist-pain case as well a few months ago. Just a simple turn here and there of the wrist and OUCH! Eventually went away. I guess it was because a) writing - it was just after the finals and lots of writing had to be done, b) typing - and other things you did with the computer, and c) models - I remember building a kit or two at the time.

Result: Painful wrists, especially the right, which also made my palms weak and numb. Scary sh*t I'm telling you. Have you been to a doctor lately? I did when I had the problem. Doc prescribed Vitamin B tablets. Alleviated it. Eventually, after having my hands rest - no writing, typing or using the hobby knife for months I'm telling you - it went away.

Yup. I guess it's in the early stage 'coz it's not that painful yet but it's causing me discomfort. I try to rest it as much as I can but this past few days have to shovel snow from the driveway in sub zero temp & it kinda aggravated the situation of my hand. Still have to go see a cousin of mine whose a Chiropractor for treatment.

Cardinal: IIRC there is no therapeutic treatment for CTS. Surgery is the only way to go AFAIK.

I know GI. Like I said I only think I might have it because of the symptoms but I wasn't diagnosed by a MD. I hope that I don't have it.

Hey nice topic! Ako mahilig talaga ako sa RTS na games sa PC. Have you tried the game "World War 3: Black Gold"? damn! i really like this game. galing kase ng graphics saka gameplay.

Hirap nga lang saka i dont like the infantries, why? they look like ants lol.

try nyo po if ever!

other games i indulge:

ghost recon (all 3 expansion)
blitzkrieg
Age of empires 2 (kahit old school na pero aliw pa rin)
Commandos: Behind enemy lines
Nba Live 2004

ps1 lng kase console ko eh kaya sa pc na lang ako bumibili

good day to all!

That is a good game. I know this, because I'm a big fan of the whole C&C line of games, and Generals just touches on a lot of innovations, gameplay-wise and technology-wise.

Belkin is one of the higher end manufacturers when it comes to PC peripherals, much like Logitech, Belkin focuses more on gaming peripherals.

Forget about IE, forget about Opera, go for Mozilla Firebird! The fastest, most efficient browser around I've tried. Bar None. www.mozilla.org

Trust me, I can vouch for the browser, plus the whole load of in-development extensions and features, will just blow your mind. Para bang, browsing hasn't been this -- good.

I'm still trying to figure out the n52 but can't have much time in front of the PC. I'm trying to rest my hands as much as possible.

Ok, I've downloaded the program. Para nga lang medyo katulad sya sa IE din. Or perhaps some tweaking should do. Any tweaking needed jomz?

On CTS, I think its incidence is higher among model builders who use the PC often.

Jomz: Got your PM. Will reply later. Thanks.

Has anyone played Harpoon - any version?

RE: Mozilla Firebird

For those who I haven't been able to convince, and for those who are using it now. Mozilla FireFox is out, and there's a user-friendly downloadable installer. Auto-import ang bookmarks, kaya wala nang hassle!

Get it! Get it!

Current Games occupying my time:

CnC Generals -- RTS Game, putting ultimate firepower in your hands, 'nuff said.

Sim Golf -- Wasn't really a Sim fan before, but there's something about Sim Golf that's both therapeutic and enjoyable. The game garnered a lot of awards, too. It's Sid Meier, should be enough to have you pick it up. Hehe!

Plus I'm going back to Diablo II.

Splinter Cell was a joy to play, when you're looking for that "Metal Gear-fix".
And the Grand Theft Auto line of games, is just oh, so enjoyable. Living a life ala-Scarface man! Hehe!

Plus of course you've gotta have a sim or two in there, GT3 (Gran Turismo 3) has always occupied loads and loads of my time, made me pick up a Logitech Formula Force for the PS2! IL2, or IIRC IL Sturmovick? is one flight-sim with so much eye candy, too.

Ayan na muna.

Aside form scale modeling, computer gaming is also another of my "addictions." These are my faves (recent ones):

PC Games category:

CnC: Yuri's Revenge and Generals (Zero Hour). What can I say, it's a really neat-o game in irts category. I love those skirmish games. Better than Warcraft 3.

Medal of Honor series: Those guys at EA really try to bring it closer to home. Kinda wish they do Pacific campaign.

Delta Force: Black Hawk Down. Another cool game. Graphics a lot better than MoH.

Diablo II: This is one game I never get tired of playing. Since I play different characters for every new game. Though I've played Paladin (my favorite) and Barbarian, the Druid's waaaayyyy too cool with those nature-based spells he can cast.

Age of Empires II & Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds

Max Payne series

Playstation 1 (sorry, can't afford the PS2 and Xbox yet) Category:

Metal Gear Solid: My all-time favorite. This game tops it all in my list. Looking forward to play the later series when I get the PS2,

Syphon Filter series. Another awesome game in its own class.

Final Fantasy VII and IX: I like their gameplay than VIII.

Firefox ROCKS!!!!!!!! MOUSE GESTURES RULE!!!!!!! Thanks jomz!

Now if only Opera can grab the code the prevents it from passing through an ISA server, I'll be very happy....
