Also, another game is on progess ( or rather out now). From the creators of Medal of Honor comes the game Call of Duty. Squad based action, you play as a team. Set in the WWII campaigns. Oh boy! Mapapaipon talaga ako! See you in these games jomz!

Just played thru the single-player demo of Call of Duty, and my oh my is it beautiful. Sounds, action, mayhem of combat. I'll be waiting for this.

If all MOH: Breakthrough has to offer are new singleplayer missions, and a new multiplayer-mode, then I don't think it'll be as much a game as the BF 1942 expansion's are. Now new weapons, no new "tricks" to do. Just missions, singleplayer at that. and a multiplayer mode which isn't that "new", either. IMO I'd be better off putting my money on Call of Duty.

Now this is starting to be really off-topic. Hehe!

Kung gusto mo nang pure story action and Rambo-like gaming, go for MOH. Call of Duty and Battlefield 1942 are battling each other. Whatever your choice is, it's all darn good game. Both these 2 games are built for multiplayer and teamplay.

On the contrary, I don't think you know what you're talking about. , well not half of it really. MOH isn't pure story action, the reason why it garnered awards was because it was feasible in the multiplayer-aspect of games. Plus I wasn't lambasting MOH: Breakthrough on the points of its single-player-ed-ness driven innovations, but it's lack of INNOVATION completely with regards to the whole concept of an expansion (an expansion, must at least have something "new", aside from new story-lines). Look at the really good expansions around, and you'll understand.

I wouldn't speak too soon about Call of Duty, my young padawan. Play the game before you conclude that it's JUST for battling each other, which sounds soo funny to describe a game by. Please do try to experience the game, first. .

You're being redundant, teamplay-multiplayer? Same ol thing for me, unless you do get into schemantics about game-modes.

Sinong may Sudden Strike 2? Peram nmn...^^

Nami-miss ko na kse yung mga mission e...(where else could you commit a very fatal mistake by rallying all your infantry troops on the arifield and having a plane take off? Grabe..Na-mow down yung mga infantry ko....)

Then one time, puro armor lng gamit ko, yung mga tao ko, nasa isang lugar lng...It was only a matter of time before German Bombers started appearing on the skies and inflicted massive casualties...Luckily, I captured 2 units ng Flak 88 and I started to blast down those bombers from the sky...

Meron pa nga, may isang town na puno ng German Infantry at mga German Snipers. I was sending my snipers to fend them off, but to no avail....Masyado clang long range...The solution - ONE. I mean ONE Tiger I tank. It only took one Tiger I tank to finish all those infantrymen off...The wonders of armor....

Oh my, that game is one of the most hard-core tactical shooters around. I've ranted and raved in the R6 line of games, so I guess I won't do that, again. Pure instinct yan dude! Haha! Enjoy!

What I'm eagerly waiting for to hit the shelves are the following two sims:

1) SteelBeasts 2.0
2) Harpoon 4

For those who don't know the Harpoon series, THIS is the ultimate naval command simulation EVER. I've played Harpoon Classic 97 and it is sheer fun. You take command of whole battlegroups - CVBGs, SAGs, Wolfpacks, Backfire regiments, CAWs, air forces, etc. etc. Ubisoft is supposed to be releasing Harpoon 4 this year - or next, or next next. The wait for Harpoon 4 has been on for years and years now. Screen shots of the game look very promising but so far it's all just eye candy for years without even a beta version out IIRC.

What I remember playing (I dunno if I mentioned at my topic post) and enjoying was Navy Strike, wherein you command a CAW composed of F-22Ns, F/A-18Es, AXs, and E-2Cs in either Libya, the Persian Gulf, or the Spratlys. It was, for me, one of the best modern combat flight simulators - although it was buggy. It had fine graphics, cool sounds, and most important, you could launch the entire CAW for an all-out Alpha Strike - and able to fly all of the planes! Imagine: You got 4 AXs armed as Wild Weasels, 8 others carrying SLAMs or LGBs, with 12 F/A-18Es carrying LGBs and HARMs as well, plus another 8 F/A-18Es flying as LR Escort, each carrying 1 AIM-54C Phoenix, and the 12 F-22Ns all in air-superiority role conducting BARCAP and LR Escort, with 2 E-2Cs giving you 360-degree radar coverage - and all that to strike bridges, SAM sites, and forward deployed troops in Iraq, or a heavily SAM defended WMD factory in Libya, or PLA(N) ships, PLA(A) fighters, and PLA special forces in the Spratlys. And all those planes (with the exception of the E-2Cs) you can jump from cockpit to cockpit to personally lead the strike or CAP. WONDERFUL!

*bump*

Daming bagong games! Nice ones, too! For starters, Commandos 3 is out, and my oh my the new missions do look pretty interesting, and now with the friendlier GUI, this'd me a nice game to keep us busy while waiting for the primer/paint/glue to dry-up! hehe! There's a new mission pack for Blitzkreig, for those who play the game -- plus syempre Call of Duty is just around the corner! Hehe! I saw some copies of Combat Mission at MCS, for those curious on trying out the game!

The bullet-time gets a bit of "John-Woo" treatment, which I bet most guys who've played Max Payne 1, will oogle at. Don't expect a lengthy game though, one could finish it in 6-hours tops(nope, hindi ako ganun ka-adik! haha! but I've finished it already).

I'm playing through Call of Duty at the moment, and it's everybit of what I expected it to be! Haha!

Hi Everyone!

Haven't played PC games for a looong time. The last PC game I really liked are:

IL2:Sturmovik
Panzer Commander
Real War series
Comanche 4
Lords of the Realm 2

Hey GI,

I might get a copy of Steel Beast. From your description, it's mighty interesting!

As for Console games my faves:

PSone

Panzer Front: one of the best tank sim games for the console.
Resident Evil 1 and 2
Silent Hill
Ace Combat series
SW Rebel Assault 2
Metal Gear Solid

PS2

Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies
Arnored Core 3: Silent Line

Question for everyone: Are there any interesting Tank sims for PS2?

As you know, playing games can reallly be an issue with the wife or GF. I try to make sure that we have games that we can play together. Some of the games we play for PS 2 (and are her faves) are:

Grand Turismo 3
Tekken

Nice to know you also have a thing for games, both console and PC. I've not been able to encounter any nice or ANY tank simulators on the PS2, puro AC (kung meron man bilang) and driving sims pa lang nalalaro ko.

I've still to try GI's steel-beasts, sana nga makasama ako sa meeting so I could HOPEFULLY score a copy from him, hehe! But IIRC it's available in Datablitz for less than 1k, or at your local w@rez munkey for a lot cheaper!

You might want to try the game alabrador got me into: Combat Mission, one of the best WWII strats/sims I've tried my hand in, pretty technical, too.

Shonen and I engage in some friendly fire playing C&C: Generals, which I'm curious why you haven't tried playing on the PC?

Wanze: Yes, Steel Beasts is not your average "game." Actually, I don't call it a game - I call it a TANK SIM (complete with booming voice). It's uber-realistic (just how realistic? Hmmm... does the fact that the US Army is using a special version of it to train their new batch of tankers make one tingle with delight at just how real it can be?). So damn real that I nearly froze to death seeing a sh1t-load of Russian T-80Us and T-72s and BMPs coming out of a tree line, and there I was, defiladed on a hill in my M1A1, and the Russian horde is just firing all its worth at me. Scary.

Controls takes some getting used to. I definitely recommend a joystick for it. (BTW, Jomz, I'll be needing your tech support - later, check bottom part of this post), but it IS playable with just mouse and keyboard (heck, if you're that good, you don't need to look at the keyboard when you lose your TIS and switch to GAS and fire-off a sabot at the guy who just knocked out your sights - all in a split-second. BTW, I'm not that good - hardly). I won a mission using just that (my joystick went bust for some strange reason).

Steel Beasts has with it tutorials for the M1A1 and Leopard 2A4. They teach you to run the tank from the gunner's seat or the TC. Also, please do check www.steelbeasts.com which is the official fan site. It has the patches, the skinner (you can "paint" your vehicles into desert camo for desert ops), maps, and most important of all several "Anti-Frustration Kits" that gives tips (say, you got hit by a mine and you lost your track? Don't lose hope. In 40 minutes, your crew will fix it up. OR, want your artillery to arrive in 45 seconds instead of the usual three minutes? Bring up a FISTV so that the target is within its LOS and your FASCAM will arrive earlier).

It's sad I don't have broadband - the best way to play Steel Beasts is with another human player. That doesn't mean the opponent's AI is stupid - on the contrary, it's very good. Heck, I've lost more missions than won them!

Steel Beasts give the armchair-armor-enthusiast a chance to feel a weeeeee bit how it feels to command three companies of armor against a brigade or so.

Do give it a try: I recommend it highly.

And, since I know the guys who make it, I highly recommend getting an original copy. It's not that expensive (as Jomz said, less than P1k at Datablitz), and you'll be supporting them in making Steel Beasts 2.0 (yup, they're releasing SB2.0 hopefully next year - and it includes more vehicles plus updated versions of the Abrams and Leopard).

Jomz: I need your Tech Support skills. My joystick is busted. I don't know why. USB, digital, Raptor 3D. OS: Win98SE. 256MB SDRAM. I plug the joystick at my external USB hub. It worked before, but now it doesn't. I removed the driver and reinstalled it - still doesn't work. Funny thing is when I go to Control Panel>Gaming Options, the joystick is recognized as connected to the system. But when I click on Set Up (I think) to calibrate it, the error message is "Error: Game Controller is not connected properly." I thought it was a hardware failure, so I tried out the joystick at my dad's computer. It works like a charm. So it's not a hardware failure (unless my USB has gone berserk). Software perhaps? What do you think? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hmmm, you leave the peripheral in the port after using it right, I mean could it be that the USB port experienced attachment-detachment wear-and-tear from removing and attaching altogether? Nonetheless, if you DO leave it in the port when not in use, TRY looking for an updated driver for the joystick. Would you be able to remember if you installed any program which could be using the joystick, too? Ultimately, if all these fails, it's either you'd want to try REINSTALLING windows or shifting to WinXP altogether, OR you've got yourself a busted USB port. IIRC, it's standard on motherboards to have two, right? You tried shifting ports?

Didn't switch ports. The board has two ports - one is dedicated for the scanner, the other is to the external 4-port hub. The hub has two "permanent" items connected to it - a modem and a bluetooth adapter. I disconnect the joystick if I don't use it. There's not much connect-disconnect of the items to the hub - at least, not much to cause the wear-and-tear you suggest. So far, both the bluetooth adapter and modem are working so I reckon physical tear on the hub isn't the reason.

Aye, will try to look for an updated driver for the joystick. I forgot to add: last time I had Windows Update, it updated a driver for the sound card. Perhaps that's the reason?

Yes, doing a clean sweep and installing XP is an option - but very last option. I have an XP Pro around but it isn't "legal" if you know what I mean, and I prefer to get a legit copy but as of now no funding for that (and if FPJ wins, there won't be ANY funding for the next 6 years!).

Thanks so far for the advice.

Wow a console player, I've been dabbling in a lot of console gaming lately! Haha! Alas, last review I saw of Kill Switch didn't pique my interest, all that hiding and shooting just isn't my cup of tea.

GI

Hmmmm..

Is your Soundcard integrated into the motherboard? It could be two different peripherals, but as such that they are both located on the same board, THAT could possibly be the problem. One thing you might want to try is switching USB ports, not that they'd make a difference since the concept of the USB port is plug-and-play, but hey malay mo! Haha!

Hmmm, if you're not apt on switching YET, why not try getting a USB-to-serial converter? I'm not sure about the pricing though, I've been meaning to get one myself but alas last I checked lampas 500 eh. Hmmm....

Jomz: Yes, sound is integrated with the board. My suspicion is the Windows Update on the sound which updated the driver. But I can't be too sure of that because I don't know if I played SB after that update.

On the USB-to-serial: Clarification - this is a device to "convert" your USB port into a serial port, or vice-versa? Sorry, a bit slow on this side. I've seen one before, and back then it was P800.00. Also been meaning to get one, but for this Christmas, I plan to treat meself with just a simple USB 7-in-1 card reader (Flash, PCMCIA, MMC, SD, etc. etc. etc.).
