I was wondering if anybody had any clever ideas on what to do with the empty model boxes after you've built the kit. When I was younger the models used to say "box top suitable for framming." I don't think I ever frammed one but I used to cut them out to put up on my walls. I'm starting to get a few of these now and I just thought somebody might have a brilliant idea on putting them to use.

I have one that I keep old instruction sheets in, just in case somebody needs one someday. I have another that holds unused decals. The rest go straight in the circular file.

I have been saving them (I don't know why) I know some folks collect them. I am about to run out of room for them, and then, perhaps, "the circular file" #:-)

Hi. I used to save some in the past. Like others, I don't know exactly why. I have some of the older ones, esp. from Tamiya, cut out and taped into some of my notebooks. I think these are mainly of the figures bcause of the color art on the clothing, weapons, and such.

Nowadays I just tear them up and throw them away in the re-cycle bin. As there are so many pictures of all kinds of AFVs, and other models in general, in just about every kind of enviornment on the Net, both real-life shots and models and dios., it's really of no use to me personally to keep the pictures on the boxes anymore. Besides I have enough stuff laying around here as it is. My wife calls me the orginal pack rat anyway.

I do have a couple boxes out in the garage that are full of spare parts from other kits that can sometimes be worth their weight in gold if I happen to be looking for just that partiuclar something or other.

Here a month or so ago I found a whole bunch of tools and maintenance accessory items from a kit I had bought maybe 10 or 15 years or so ago in one of these boxes.

Take care,sgirty

I've saved them for a long time. Now I scan or photograph then scan and burn to CD.

I have to agree with the majority. I save them and I too have no idea why.

I cut out the front picture and and side pictures and put them in a folder with the instructions. I have kept them all since i started. 2 folders of kit boxes takes up very little space. Why do I keep them? They will be useful some day??????

Well - anymore the boxes make it to file 13. The art isn't frame worthy (IMHO). To many kits that have 'stuff' in them on the shelves to have a bunch of empties.

Some of the older one are frame worthy and if I ever run across them I will frame them - or make a collage of them.

Iam smarter and sneakier than all of you! I save them and when I get a new model, I throw away it's box and put the sprues and stuff in the old one I just emptied. This way my wife never knows I bought a new model. I know I am a devious stinker. I only have 6 or 7 boxes, not counting the four Abrams boxes.

I chuck 'em, although for some strange reason it bugs me to do that. Funny you should bring this up, I just took two out of the closet a couple days ago and they're still sitting right there waiting for me to throw them away.

I don't have the heart to throw them or to cut them up.

Some are used for model related storage... decal sheets, left over parts etc. Most end up getting re-used for xmas (ptui!) and b'day gift boxes etc., shirts etc. Most of the small figure set boxes... the ones that open from the end usually get tossed only because they aren't good for much else, but I can't remember the last time that I fully emptied one of those.

I used to cut the box art off and keep them.......when I was 12. Now they go in the bin. Life's too short.

I usually keep one of the side panels or the box top for the information of that particular kit. The rest is trashed. I do not keep the instructions after the kit is built. Some of the DML paintings are good enough to keep as art.

Oh dear...

Sorry to be so boring, but I just bin them!!

I keep spare decals and parts, and sometimes sections of sprue (if they're an unusual colour or cross-section)... but boxes - into the re-cycling bin :-)

Sadly, I've got far too many unbuilt kits to even consider keeping the boxes of the ones I actually get 'round to building... ... though I have kept a childhood scrapbook of boxtops, dating back to about 1970 :-)

All the best

Rowan
