...start to enjoy the model?

Me, I consider everything a chore up to the point where I start weathering the bugger. Everything before that is like preparing the canvas. So, the first wash is where I start getting a kick, followed by powdered pastel application, stains, and general high-lighting etc.
Does anyone actually enjoy assembling stuff?

I enjoy assemblying it. The whole thing is just one piece of artwork for me. I can express myself through the model believe it or not. Alot of my friends or buddies build models just like the instructions say to do. I on the other hand go all out.. washing, pastels, airbrushing, dry brushing. All that stuff I do is a reflection apon me. I really dont start having fun until I start taking pictures of it outside and think to myself, thats pretty sweet stuff right there.
sorry for the lengthy reply.

I enjoy the whole process from research to finishing, each project is different.

I enjoy the basic assembly and painting until I have to paint those *&$#@ road wheels and assemble the tracks. Then it usually sits for a couple of weeks until I suck it up and finish the running gear and move on the the cammo painting and weathering. Man, I hate putting those Dragon indy tracks together...

I enjoy building the kits. I usually get going really fast....until I reach the part where it looks pretty much like a tank or whatever...then it stops. I set them aside and it takes an act of God to get me to finish them. But I'm working on finishing more of them now.

I enjoy the whole process of building a model from breaking the seal on the box to setting the model on the base or in a dio and taking photographs. I usually try to go all out when building a model. If possible I use all the available PE sets. I love to weather my vehicles and have never built one that wasn't. Weathering adds realism and that's what I try to achieve.

I really enjoy the planning stage and the final detail stage. The rest is great fun too.
I love the conception stage of planning and figuring out whats going to take place in the project.
Then I love the final details when it all comes together and I have the finished product in front of me.

It's all good! :-) The highpoints are probably the planning stages, the research, what the scheme is going to be, what uniform will be painted, etc. and the last hour or so when everything is coming together. The only part I really dont like is cleaning up manufacturing flaws (sink holes, seams, poorly fitting parts, etc. )

I really start to enjoy the model when I get it home from the shop and break the seal. Looking at the sprues under my magnifier, reading the directions, starting to plan what I'm going to do with it, it's all good. I even drag the model out from time to time to relive this feeling.

From there it seems to be a reverse bell curve, it kind of goes downhill until it reaches a low point, usually when I hit a snag. Then it languishes until I get fired up again. Then I get fired up with weathering and I'm good to go.

Assuming (!) its a decent fitting kit, I love the assembly until I get to cleaning and painting roadwheels. Painting is really fun for me, I like to get creative with camo patterns....not always accurate, but I call it artistic licence. I HATE decals, for me there's no bigger pain. Then I get excited again once I start the weathering steps....especially drybrushing, I think that really brings out the details.

I agree with Scoccia

It's usually the painting stage (or decals - where's the feature on your home-made decals Scoccia?) where it all goes wrong and I lose heart. I've got a "Shelf Of Shame" full of unfinished kits, which are basically fine, but got forgotten....

Bad Porky!! Bad Porky!! (you know you like it...)

All the best

I enjoy the planning, building, etc. I enjoy the painting, weathering, etc. I do not look forward to all the prep work for the painting. I need some elves or something to do all that prep ( and clean-up) stuff for me. Oh well, I am told patience is good for the soul.

Enjoyment for me starts when I get my sweaty hands on that new kit and get it home to rip the plastic off to start looking at the sprues. The least enjoyable part for me is the road wheels and individual track links. So, I do the lower hull first and eveything after that is pure pleasure.

The most fun I have is assembling my models. It's usually when I start putting paint on it that things start going wrong. As a matter of fact most of my assembled models are just sitting on the shelve with a primer coat on it. When I get the courage I pull one out and finish it.

Ditto. I have a few tanks that look like tanks but they're missing a few more parts. One doesn't have it's rear plate and tracks on. Another's interior is base-coated and I left it at that. A third is missing some cables and is only muddied on one side. I'm working on a fourth with my first PE set and I hope I finish this one up.

She-who-must-be-obeyed is my closest approximation to an act of God: "When are you going to finish that?! Another new kit? You haven't finished anything!!"

I enjoy the building process. I think the only part I dread is the cutting from the sprue and cleaning off the flash. Otherwise, I really enjoy the whole process.

I enjoy it when it really starts to take shape as about half or a little less of the building is compelte. The painting though is my favourite part as it starts to come alive and I think, man just a short while ago this was a colourless piece of plastic parts and now it is looking good.

My favorite part is actually the very begining, the research, planning and preparation. Don't get me wrong about the actual building and finishing phases, I enjoy them very much also. But for me, all of the stuff that happens before hand is my favorite part. Maybe that will all change when I actually finish something!

My OIF diorama keeps getting bigger and bigger, I think I have about half of the 3rd ID sitting on my bench right now...

I enjoy it from the time I get it home and first open the box until it goes on the shelf. I'm building a giant Essex right now and I've loved every minute of it, even putting those tiny gunshields on all those 20mm's has been fun.

Opening the box for the first look at the model is the best part and the anticipation of doing the actual building! And there's also the initial reading of the instructions.
