Hi all
having just emerged from a spell of nostalgia, I wondered what members' first car or bike was?

My first car was a 1972 Triumph Toledo 1300, 2 door saloon.
In emerald green. No radio as standard.

I'd had a few bikes then too. All off-road/trials. The first one being a weird special Dayton Albatross 250cc scooter grass track machine. No body work at all. It had 12 inch wheels with knobblies.

What was yours?

Cheers

Mine was a 1966 Blue Vauxhall Viva HB Delux.

Was older than me when i bought it, lasted me 2 years/48,000 miles, only needed a replacement engine and gearbox during that time!

My first car -given to me by my step father was a 64 Rambler, the day I got home after being discharged from the Navy.
After I totaled that on a bridge embankment, my natural father gave me a 62 Chevy,
After I blew the engine on the NJ Turnpike, I had to actually go out and buy one!
That was a 54 Nash Metropolitan.

Cost me a massive $75.00 back in those days.
I wish I had it today. Every time I go to an antique auto show, and see them I wonder if the one I'm looking at could be the one I gave away after it's engine blew. Sticker shock hits also as they seem to be rather rare now days. (I've blown a few engines in my young and rowdy days.)

My one and only bike was a 1981 750 Kawasaki with a side car. Rode that until 2002 and gave it up after open heart surgery. Something about wired up chest, blood thinners and road rash not mixing.

A 1978 Renault 16TL, heaven help me. I killed it when the radiator blew on a long drag up the A303. As the oil warning light and the temperature warning light were the same light, I thought it was the old oil problem coming back and didn't twig until it was too late. The car was so knackered that it ran for five minutes after I turned the ignition off, sounding like a tractor. Still, not all bad news - the result was that I got my first Rover SD1, and never looked back ...

hey,

My first car was a 1966 Ford LTD,I had just turned 16,with license in hand, sold my Tenor Saxophone, for 400.00,bought the Ford for 300.00.used the left over 100.00 to buy a set of reversed chrome rims(and baby moons) and two gal. of paint, orig color was Tan,we painted it Emerald Green.

First motorcycle was a 1973 Kawasaki 90cc(Bought new),traded that in for a 1974 Kawasaki Z1 900cc,the Kaw 90 could barely reach 55 mph,the 900cc,well ,still climbing at 160 mph,I backed it down,I got scared. At one time had 4 of these 900's,1-73,2-74's,1-75,sold all four of them (in 1990) to a collector in Michigan.

The first car I bought was a used 1962 Rambler American Classic in 1969 for $244. Lasted all of 3 months. Looked like this:

My first bike was a 1978 Honda CB 125.
Looked like this, but in red.

Well, my "first" car was a 1983 Cutlass Supreme, but we never got it run just right...

But the car that I drive now, which the first car that I can call my own, is a 1996 Chevy Corsica...30 mpg, 147k+ on it and it still runs like a dream!

Thanks for your time.

My first car was a 1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme that I got in 1983. It was a rust bucket that lost 2 pounds of rust every time I closed the door. Here is a photo of a nice one that is similar to the one I had, mine was just not as nice. It was metallic green with an off white vinyl roof. I had it for about a hear and a half before it died on me.

My first new car was a 1984 Wolfsburg Edition VW Rabbit L, the last year of the US made Rabbit. I loved the little car. It had a 4-speed, sunroof, stereo cassette player (big deal at the time) and the Wolfsburg Edition added a special trim package with neat hub caps, front spoiler, special interior and some other neat things. Mine was silver and looked similar to this. I owned that car for four years before trading up.

That CB125 is still in production today, with only minor alterations...

I wonder if the Honda Boardroom and the Tamiya Boardroom are connected?

My first Bike was a Vespa Ciao. Great little 50cc step tru moped, complete with cycling pedals and chain. Had a few of those, learned to ride, and fall off (repeatedly... )
After a killing a number of 50cc two-stroke mopeds, I discovered the joys of Honda four-stroke engines, and spend some happy years riding around on a Honda CD50.
That was followed by a Honda CB550 F (the beast) . Mint green, Matt Black, Extended crosser front legs, no seat, six foot sissybar, the list goes on... It not so much turned heads, but stomachs beautiful bike
The beast died after years of being mercilessly trashed, and was replaced by a Honda CX500 Silverwing. The beast did rise from the dead, and was last known to be riding around in a heavily chopped form, still turning stomachs...
The Silverwing was followed by, what else but the legend, the GL1200 Goldwing. The last real bike Goldwing.
Had to let it go, when the little one was iminnent, and bought a car...

I WILL get back on two wheels one day.....

Four-Stroke 4 Ever.

Grandparents gave me (circa 1970) a 1963 Oldsmobile Super Hoilday 88... a massive boat of a car!
The first car I purchased myself (1972?) was a used 1955 MG TF1500...I sure wish I had that one today.
The only other vehicle I regret selling was my trusty 1972 Landrover 88 Series 3.

I now drive a company truck and haven't personally owned a car in several years.

Cheers,
Charles

My first car was a 1963 Ford Falcon...joined the Army in '81 and my bro's destroyed it. Got married and bought a new Renault Encore (US version - Euro version was the Renault 11)....since then I've had or have still a Plymouth Voyager, Ford Escort wagon, Ford Focus, Nissan Pick-up, and BMW 525i.

My first bike was a Kawasaki 750 while stationed in Louisiana. Hi-speeds and "swarms" of Dragon Flys don't mix!

My next "car/cycle?" If my new job comes this this month or next, it'll be one of these:

My first car was a 1991 Honda Civic 1,5 EXI. That car was so much fun to drive. Almost like a gocart for the street.

1969 Camaro SS/RS 375 horse LT1 - Tuxedo black with houndstooth interior and that cheesy woodgrain that Generous Motors put in thier cars in the 60's 70's and..80's...just saw a similiar one go for over 100k at Barret Jackson

Not to worry though, my Dad had a Mercedes 300 Gullwing that he had to sell when he started collecting speeding tickets like they were going out of style...sold it for alot less than its worth now.....he still cries.....

Three wheels? On a sports bike? Where is the sense in that? I mean, really, what is the point of that contraption? I can see the merrit of a trike (two wheels at the back....) , but this...

Hey Henk, stability and control. The Spyder has ABS all around, wishbone suspension, traction control, stability control, power steering (considerably more than the current trikes), and the aerodynamics of this design greatly reduce the wind. It's got stuff in the front end that Mercedes is introducing next year. It "looks" like a sportsbike, and more or less feels like one too, but the rider positioning is a bit different (I'm 6' 4" and didn't like "laying over the tank" on a regular crotch-rocket).

Sorry Peter, didn't mean to hi-jack.

Aleksey, I wonder how many of our young service men and women can also lay claim that their "first vehicle" was "something armored!"

Some great bits of machinery are bobbing to the surface.
Dave's Metro (Austuin here) and AJ's Rambler spring instantly to mind.
And of course Mike's Spyder. Trikey...two wheels at the front aka Morgan 3-wheeler means it would be much more stable than the other way round, and with the kind of performance promised, its not a bad thing.

I wish I had that today....nice.
The car I really wish was still with me was my early 80's Mk1 VW Scirocco. I loved it then and still do. If only I had room to store one in my garage.
Still its proof that true love never dies.
I replaced it with a Mk2 GTX. Lovely,...bigger, more powerful, faster, etc...but just didn't have the edge the Mk1 did. A softer car in many ways.

My first car was a red w/white top '68 Ford Mustang that my dad bought for me for $125 (in 1980) from a coworker with gambling debts. The passenger door was bolted shut and I drove it that way from May to Mid October when I fixed the door with parts from a junk yard. Two days later I was rear ended by a knucklehead lighting his cigarette and the car was totaled.
My first bike was a black 1992 Harley Davidson Fatboy that I still have. Sadly, I have yet to hit 5000 miles on it. That's what shift work and 5 kids does to your best laid plans.

My first car was a 1970 Plymouth Fury. It was an ex-state police car and came with the shotgun racks between the seats. It had a 383 engine with 4 barrel carb. She could pass anythng on the road except for a gas station. I still miss that car and would love to get another one someday.
