My choice would be the FN C1 from my days as a sapper in the Canadian Army.
Lately I've been able to fire the C8 CQB as our police service rifle. It really is a nice rifle for what we might need it for.
Now the most fun to fire was the M2 HMG. Nothing like rocking and rolling with ma duece lol!!

It would have to be a 30-06 garand .
Wow,that has a huge kick when you fire it .
During the service years there was the SLR /M16 and m203 .
Almost took out a herc firing off illum rounds out of a m203 during training.Very accurate weapon .
As well as the m79 grenade launcher ,Vietnam vintage but it works just like the the dude in Apocolypse Now uses it.
Shot off my gas plug when we converted the SLR to full auto.Hard to hold on full auto, even when firing blanks .

The M60 on a tripod is the most devostating weapon you could come across. It rocks!!
A live fire exercise in 86 we went through 3 M60's dating back to the vietnam years.
Going through some near 24,000 rounds for the company .Yours truly had 24hrs on this beast and you can tear trees apart with this thing.
Indirect fire and this thing fires in a cone of fire on tripod.we had figure 11 targets at set intervals and this thing shredded them apart.
Awesome weapon to fire.spent a bit of my time as number 2 s well as carrying and using one of these beasts around.
Left the service when the into of the steyr and m249 come into play.
Daresay after firing the M60,MAG58 and Bren it would be hard to get use to a 5.56mm calibre of the m249.
Out of service I ended up getting a springfield 30-06 Garand.
1$ a round to fire back in the 90's .

This weapon leaves the SLR for dead.I thought the SLR had some kick a$$ power but to my surprise the garand with its 8 round clip is the baby to work with .

Up close or at a distance I would hate to be on the receiving end of this thing.

Hi,
The best 3 weapons that I was issued with during my service career were:
L1A1 SLR what a brilliant weapon
L42 Sniper rifle the best 'one' shot weapon I have ever used
GPMG (Gimpy) No one was safe when you had one of those in your hands.
Being 6ft 2in I was able to fire it from the waist just like the old LMG (the converted bren)

Cheers Mike

Re: the Claymore Mine. When they designed it, they had no instructions on it, and the back was the same color as the front; the VC would find them and turn them around, front toward the shooter. After a few such incidents, they initially painted the back a differeent color so you could verify where the shot would go. Thanks to the initial designer!! Army Intelligence is still an oxymoron to me (USMC 65-71); interservice rivalry produces some of the greatest humor the world has known.

My favorite: M-14 (464924h: I will never forget); #2 M-1 Garand; #3 M-79 Grenade Launcher. My 3 friends. I've worked with them all.

Thanks, and Semper Fi,
Matt

M203 40mm Grenade Launcher.

Nicknamed: 40mm Motivation (the tag I gave mine in the first Gulf War).

I had to add my two cents, out of all the weapons that I have fired, I absolutely fell in love with the MK19. Yeah it tends to jam up if not serviced properly, but to see the damage one of these thing can do with four or five well placed rounds, I fell in love with her.

My favorite weapon to shoot was the TOW system with a Yellow band missile (not the Blue band training round). I have launched 1 Yellow band and 2 Blue band rounds in the 80's thanks to R.R. restoring the Army's budget. I stiil would not want to have to use the Jeep mounted version in combat - not with that backblast!

For automatic weapons, it has to be the M-2 .50 cal. (if you can see it, you will hit it - eventually), followed by the M-60 (aka: The PIG) and finally my "Sweet 16".

For hand guns it's a toss-up between the M1911A1 and my P-35 Browning Hi-Power. For the ultimate close-up work, nothing beats a 12ga. pump-action shotgun (mine Mossberg 500 M&P).

for me, the m-79. it's short, it's short , damit, it's long, but what a power house for a grunt. next, 50 caliber, mows down anything from grass to buildings.

Well after over 20 years of service I think the best thing I fired was a Tow 2 missile. The sound of a pop and whoosh is the best think to hear once you pressed the trigger, That's was in a peace time.

Now in combat it had to be a MK-19 Grenade Launcher with the .50 Cal in a close second. Hell I watched people run from just the sounds of both weapons.

Yours truly

Mike

Gimme my M-79 blooper, so easy to clean, absolute fun to fire. Also each of our tracks (M551) had 2 M3A3 grease guns, another one so easy to clean! Manufactured by MATTEL* the toy company.

As a Military Police in the early 80's I was trained on and supposed to be carrying the M1911. However as a Dog Handler we were required to carry Smith & Wesson .38's. (it's a long story but somehow involved, as was explained to me, not wanting to have to use two hands to chamber a round when you had your dog pulling on the leash. I guess bad things had happened before).

I didn't get to carry my beloved M1911 until I left the Army and started working for an armored car company!

Having fired most of the weapons used by the British services in the last half of the 20th enctury, my favourite would have to be the No4 rifle in .303 - not as accurate as the 7.62 version but the round would go through a brick wall at nearly 1/2 a mile!. In 7.62 I shot at one mile with aperture sights and got 8 out of 10 on the target (but not all in the black!!). Next would be the 7.62 version of the Bren (L1A1?) - as accurate as a rifle with the speed of an LMG.
The Sterling (updated Sten) was bloody dangerous and the SLR/SA80 were/are pieces of plastic junk next to a real rifle. Why wound the enemy at 200yrds when you can kill'em at a mile! For handguns I have to hand it to the Yanks - .45 Colt was a manstopper - unlike the 9mm peashooters we had options on as SPG crew.

I really enjoyed firing AT4s at stuff. Grenades were OK but a joy to get rid of once the safety pin is pulled. Do not want one of them near you when it goes boom. Well ,it is a toss up between the AT4 and the MK19 grenade firing machine gun.

1911s. Used to work for Kimber and shot 1000k a day. Still the best pistol on the planet.
The M16 family, love the M4s
M1A
HK UMP 40
AK74s, the 5.45 seems to feed and chamber much smoother then the 7.62s

Back in the day, m252 81mm mortars called in using a PRC77, Mk19s, M2, m249s and M60E3.

During service I have fired the M62 (MG3 - the successor of the mg 42), the M75 (G3A3) the M/49 (submachinegun) and the M49 (SIG210)

I liked the M62 alot - quite heavy (12 kg) but good accuracy and it can put alot of lead out in no time.

Privately im quite fond of my Glock34 and my Winchester m1873 in .45 colt - I find myself drifting more and more into black powder.

My favourite has to be the M1 rifle, joy to shoot and one of the last military weapons to still 'look like a rifle' and surplus ammo was readily available. As for handguns, I carried a .45 New Service and liked it as well.

I was bang on with the SLR, came second on my recruits course. I got the SA80 and couldn't hit a bloomin thing with it till I got the Susat sight. I loved the Ak47 also.
