In the "Back To The Future" series the wacky doctor built scale layouts of the town and the railroad. He used them to plan his time travel departures.

I just saw a scene in another movie last night. The movie "The Hot Chick" with Rob Schneider has a scene where the father of one of the girls is in bed working on a model aircraft of some kind.

Edward Woodward in Callan used to paint model figures; which is something that he does in real life too.

Ah, John, you beat me to it - I was going to mention Callan too! In fact there was an article in MM about him when the Callan film came out. One of his figures featured prominently in one of the episodes, because his rooms were searched by rival agents, & one of them stole a figure thinking he wouldn't notice! As if! As it was a Tradition Kaiserstandarte bearer it struck a particular chord, as my Dad was painting one at the time!

As mentioned the Back to the Future trilogy has two scenes where Doc builds a model of the town hall and the rail road spur.
In the "Blue Max" 1966 George Peppard... James Mason plays a German General holding the Adler D.II (Morane 230) in about 1/48 while getting his boots shined.
In the recent movie "Flyboys" they use wooden models of aircraft on sticks to work out dogfight manuvers.

One of my daughters is a McFly fan - one of their recent song videos (I can't remember the song - wasn't that interested) had them as kit parts on sprues, complete with instructions, & a kit box that had Tamiya-like stars on it! I think during the video they were "assembled".

Watched the second season of Sopranos not long ago and theres a scene when Christoph is going to collect money at a brothel and the owner is building a Formula 1 car. He ends up with the brush with blue paint in his nose.

There's a Jim Belushi movie where an angel switches the past and alters his present so that he is very wealthy and married to his high school sweetheart. He gets depressed for some reason and starts building a car model, I think it was a testors porche or something.
That was "Mr. Destiny".

I just saw The Good Shepherd, and the main character builds alot of ships in bottles. It even shows in the movie how they are built and sealed in the bottles.

In one of the first few Friday the 13th movies Cory Feldman has lots of model airplanes hanging from his ceiling and I think he's shown building one too. He also has alot of cool monster masks on shelves in his room.

I can't believe none of you mentioned the Simpsons. There's the episode where Bart and Homer are building a model together only Bart's half is an airplane and Homer's half is a boat.

In the premier episode of Star Trek, Enterprise, a little boy (young Capt. Archer) is building a model starship.
In last week's Battlestar Galactica the Capt. destroys a large wooden model of a sailing ship he's been carefully building.

Just caught a Sopranos rerun last night, the episode that introduces Furio, Tony's cousin from Sicily. In this one, a guy who is controlled by Tony and runs a house of ill repute behind a tanning salon is late on his payments. Christopher is sent in to collect and the guy is hand painting the rear wing of a large scale F1 car. He winds up having the car smashed with his butt and the paint brush in his nose. When Furio visits later to make a more serious collection visit, you can see a number of model cars on the shelf circling the room
