After spending four years in a wheel chair, I finally got a new leg that works!!!! I have one of the new C-Legs with a vacuum socket.(computer leg) I have been the Ginnie pig of sorts for finding a way for AK"s (above the knee amputees) to use the new vacuum system. And I am happy to say that we have succeeded. Now all I have to do is regain my strength in my lower muscles. I can put in on in the morning and take it off at bed time. We have a lot pf work to do with this one. It can be programmed to allow a person to ride a bicycle, run walk with a natural gait, climb down stairs etc.

That's great Dave, not only for you but for all the other people out there in the same situation. I was talking with my wife yesterday about how wonderful it is how the the computer, Internet, and technology in general has gone so far in making the lives of so many people easier. We've got a long way to go, but little victories like this help win the war.

That truly is fantastic Dave! Congratulations on getting back your independence. Just remember standing up comes with its own disadvantages, especially when you are carrying a completed kit and your drop.....longer way down to the floor. :-)

Good news, now you'll be able to run to the hobby store.

Great news, Dave!

They are doing amazing things with prosthetics these days. Our young troops coming home with missing limbss from the current conflict are certainly getting attention -- I'm glad that the vets from our "other wars" are also reaping the benefits!

Great news Dave. It is nice to know that some money is still being spent on research for people that have something besides ED. :-)

That's great news, Dave! A friend in my unit is a double above-knee amputee and within a year is now walking again thanks to his c-legs! In fact, he revealed his renewed mobility to the unit while receiving his medal for the campaign in which he lost them...not a dry eye in the house. Glad to see that your going ot be upwardly mobile again, and keep strong, I understand that it's quite a battle.

This is great news. I hope that he gets the new vacuum socket system also. My first three legs were hard to wear because of the cutting pain from the direct bone contact. The new Vacuum socket works with 25 PSI of pressure over the stump with no bone bearing weight. I have never felt better than when I wear this one. The pressure even takes away the phantom pains by pressing on the nerve endings. The C-leg technology is fantastic.

Thanks all for the great words of encouragement. Now on to Driving a gun truck again!!
