What in the heck is going on here, it seems that we're having an early winter. There was no mention off snow but all of a sudden...wham, lake effect snows. Boy, it’s just to early for this!

YUK - that is the Anti-North!!!

That is why I left Trumansburg (10 miles up 96 from Ithaca), well one of the reasons.

Wow - no fun - Snow on Holloween and with luck you'll have snow on Easter too. Sorry couldn't resist, and I've lived through it and it's noooo fun.

I hate to say this Joe, but I hope it stays up your way a little longer. I'm really not ready the the winter arthritic pains. I'm just getting over the rainy season pains.

Well, after many years of breaking my back shoveling snow I finally bought a snow blower. So this time I say...BRING IT ON! :-)

Today we suffered some lake effect streamers with minor white outs between Barrie and Orillia. No accummulations, but with them forecasting a "mild" winter it means lots of snow!!! Great time to be inside and building models

Up date,
It's now 10:15 pm and we are now going into a state of emergency. We are GETTING BLASTTED here. There are reports of over 150,000 without power and reports are still coming in. They are canceling all activities, and have a driving band in placed through out the city and points north. @Matt… this is something you guys usually get before us here in Buffalo. All ready the news is calling it the storm off 2006? They kidding…this just started. I hope the rest of the year is better.

When my wife and I got out of the hockey game tonight there was a dusting of snow on the car which had frozen to the windows.

Of course my snow scraper was in the garage so I had to use a CD case to get the windows cleaned off.

I do this to myself every year!

We can't complain here though as Darryl will most likely agree. We just had a beautiful Thankgiving weekend so I guess this is a bit of payback.

The news is reporting 19 inches already in Buffalo with 3-4 more inches on the way. Guess Joe's gonna have some quality time with the plastics. Stay warm, Joe.

Didn’t even realize there was a storm going on in new york.

Listen I need you guys to keep the snow up that way a little longer. I still need to get the snowblower on the tractor. And fix it. And put more coal in. And get rid of last years ashes....

This could be a long winter.

Good luck, keep warm and watch out for drivers from the south

On my local news this morning it was reported to be 22.5 inches.
Good luck Joe digging out.
Hope you weren't one of the unlucky ones losing power.

Well I’m one of a few that made it through the night here in Buffalo, devastating record snow fall, just over 22 inches and with over 380,000 without power through out the area. Buffalo alone is 70% with out power. Why I was one of the lucky few, well I haven’t a tree around me within 300 feet. I have had the chance to look around this morning, how to describe it, well I’m not sure. All I can say is total devastation. Tree everywhere are down along with many power poles and their power lines. For most they say power won’t be restored till Wednesday the latest. I was able to snap some pics early this morning…need to get out during daylight to see the real damage.

Thanks all and I'm staying warm.

Joe

This one is wild, the whole street is covered in broken trees.

Joe,

You can keep that crap up your way!! I hate cold and snow with a passion!
Cincinnati isn't as bad as where you are, but I'm ready for summer again. I'll take the heat and humidity any day of the week. It wouldn't bother me if I never saw snow again.
Someday, I hope to move some place where it's warm every day of the year. I don't know how you can stand living with that mess.

Stay warm

I guess all the trees couldn't take the weight of leaves and snow, as they look like they still have all their foliage. Down here the trees haven't even started to change colors yet.

The wife and I take a short ride around here and snapped some daytime shots of the area. We are now getting help from the State, Federal levels and from other States with their equipment. The Governor activated the National Guard from Buffalo and Batavia NY. The last estimate of the power being fully operational through out the city and surrounding area is by late weekend. Most roads are now open but are littered with huge piles of trees and limbs.…two things reported that will stay with me forever. They say the debris will measure 10 million square yards and that the city’s landscape is forever changed.

The new threat is flooding, the weather here has been in the 50’s in the day with the night in the 40’s. the two feet of snow that melted is going fast, the rains are coming and they are asking that we go out and try to clean out the storm drains. Many are reporting basements are flooded out. The fire department can’t say enough about using generators in the house, or using the kitchen stove for heat. There’s been a large report of many who fill ill with CO poisoning.

This photo…well it’s shows some stupidly on my part. See the power line, yeah. I was sure it was off, but still, I should have known better…right! Even the guy in the mirror thought so.
