.......ANY -THING "BUILT "--but not more than --50%--of finished article from OOB..(for starters)---yes I know its a "CONVERSION".....but we gotta start some where ..........!!!

Well.!!!!!!!!!........this was put up as a suggestion and was there for comment to either accept or re-jig and so allow "EVERY-ONE" an imput to a mutual agreement on how much or little .."green stuff "...was to be allowed.

So far ....as I read....most are looking at 50%plus of "new"material....this will be YOUR decision but the door is still open for comment

As for it being a competition ------ .. ............not here ....and not a requirement..........as far as I'm concerned.

Time limit .....again that will depend on "if and when " we get a "GO" for a campaign..........Not before 1JAN 2007...I would imagine....and possibly for 120 days ....to allow for unforseen circumstances---again a few will be looking at started projects ......would like to agree to anything recently started ( say last 2 months) ..as I know some things can take a fair bit of cutting (or scrapping -re-working)
Total time would run to.............10months ..more than fair

Ribbon ......... .....not a "scooby-do"-clue...that will need some thought.

Running it............Again I stress ....and thanks for the honour ...I havn't the first idea of how to run a campaign ..and would hate to "scew it up"for all who may participate
Don't even know if ALL the other sections on Armorama even know this is being discussed
This place is where to air your views ---so far a few have said "OK"....where's the rest ???????...I can only give my thoughts to try to bring the " ......GREAT-IDEA" to fruition ..............its in your hands.

Hi all,

This is a "Campaign," NOT a "Competition!"

Big difference!

Edit: I don't remember seeing any other campaigns going through this.

I'm up for it. I fancy starting my Tracked Rapier system.

Are you really going to make the Rapier system? I had planned on doing this very modeled but I see you're taking up the challange. I will definately like to see the finish result. Are you going to scratchbuild this form the ground up?

Just jotting down a few thoughts in regards to the "Scratchbuild Campaign":

1. The use of a % of build is the most and only way to visualise which Class someone would like to slot into, especially as we hope all genres of this Modelling Community will be participating (planes, trains, automobiles, ships, sci-fi etc etc).
Maybe a post should be entered in the Modelling In General Forum to make it known of the proposed Campaign ?.

2. It looks like the most feasible way (not sure on the logistics side of thing) of getting maximum participation would be to run it with sub-catergories or Classes ie.
Class 1 = up to % X
Class 2 = up to % Y
Class 3 = escaped from the looney bin,
this way all skill levels are catered for, plus the participatants can see what other levels are up to and pick up a few tricks/exchange ideas methods (isn't this what we are trying to achieve).

3. IMHO it would be a shame to exclude already started projects - from experience I know a lot of modellers would not want to 'shelve' their started project and start another (more research, planning, heartache and hair-tearing) when they want to finish the project thats near'n'dear to them, so they may be put off from entering the campaign.

4. Campaign Name - need the talented and creative modellers here to come up with a name. Already mooted "lead me into temptation" and I've just had "back to basics' thrown at me. Input please, help our entrusted Leader (thanks BARV for volunteering).

5. Campaign Ribbon also need the design geniuses to come up with a Ribbon. Just a thought - maybe have a Bronze or Silver Star for the different Class Groups (if used).

This can only happen if we all get behind it and keep pushing.

Very good points. I will be interested in participating in this campaign.

A couple of questions::

A campaign leader - what is exactly and totally involved in this responsibility?

A name for this campaign - what about : "SCALED DOWN" or "RAW MATERIAL" or "LOW SPRUE" ?

thanks-

I would be interested in joining in this campaign. I started a GMC 6x6 (Italeri) that I was going to convert to a Truck, Surgical, 21/2 ton 6x6 with Cliff and somebody else. I made the cab and chassis and then went on leave. When I returned Cliff had departed. I do know from research (mainly Cliff's) that there are only a couple of photos of these units and no interior shots.

While I was on holidays in Darwin I was fortunate to get up close and personal with a different unit that sat on the rear of the 6x6. I think it was for armourers - has windows on the sides and workbenches inside - could even include a lathe and appears to have a compressor unit at the front right hand side. I have taken a few photos of it and have changed my plans to attempt this including the interior.

My next problem is that I have just been transferred at work and it may be after Christmas before I get back into modelling.

As a Campaign name -

"Sprueless, not clueless."

(Or in my case)

"Sprueless and clueless"

Salut Marc!

Nice to see you hang around here! How are you doing? Fine I hope... It would be great if you can participate to this campaign!
I think we still didn't get an answer about already started projects. Anyway, I think more and more about having a 100% scratchbuild year in 2007!

Hi,

I'm interested in the 50 - 75% division with an unstarted project.

Still depending on the start - end date, though.

thanks.

Suggestion concerning the "percentage requirement" for the (dare I say - upcoming) scratchbuilt campaign:

Drop the "percentage requirement". Why?

Not to incite the Inquisition, but recognizing that; 1) - there are many, many, levels of definition amongst modelers of how much effort and material constitues "scratchbuilding", and 2) - the desire to include and get as many modelers as possible to jump in and have a good time building and finishing their projects, I think it is advisible to let everyone just go for it and build what they want, to whatever degree that they want to do it.

Don't coerce anyone into a huge effort if they aren't inclined to do so.

Do encourage everyone to really stretch out and go beyond their comfort zone.

Don't make anyone feel less worthy if they've only done smaller fittings and fixtures on their models before - if they scratchbuilt a hatch or equipment mount - with your collective encouragement they might build more this time around!

From the perspective of being Campaigns Administrator, I'd love to see each and everyone who entered an ambitious campaign like this to build their project, have a boat-load of fun doing it (secondly creating some fascinating material for our Gallery and MOD and Feature Sections) and ultimately receive a Ribbon for their efforts.

I won't look disparagingly at the modeler who tried for their first or second time to scratchbuild something they always wanted to - regardless of how "big" that part might be. The ultimate goal is to jump in, share, have fun - and FINISH! If someone in the bunch can learn something and grow from the sharing of others - then we all win. Some of you are both highly-skilled and highly-experienced in handcrafting your own parts and complete miniatures in many cases. We're celebrating that too - but remember - we're trying to encourage those who need just a little nudge to take the next step.

Now, leaving up what the "standard" of the effort you all want to put into the campaign and expect out of each other should be up to you. Reasonable, fair, challenging - and doable! Give your prospective Campaign Leader here a big help and decide on that. It will make a big difference...

Wise words Jim, allow me some thoughts about this....

I named the 50/75% scratch because it´s what I´m capable of doing right now. Of course, the "almost ready" campaign will be far more inclusive for all of us rookies in the "DArk Side" if some minor, but noticeble, scratch work it´s done. I guess in that way, more people will adventure themselves into the dark, but fun, side of modelling....

Cheers and let´s start soon, I alredy choose my project

Ready to go....Awaiting your command...i have an idea for two possible builds. I 'm finishing some research on them for scale and trying to finalize any needs for resin castings and milling of a few parts...damn, this is gonna be fun. I can only imagine that the server will be overloaded with megs and megs of images uploaded by members involved in the build.

get ready Staphjim...it's coming...

Count me in!

I'll do a 1/48 scale Bugatti 100P racer plane. I already started the project but 70% of the work has to be done for completion. It's a 100% scratchbuild project I didn't worked on since more than 6 months. So the Campaign would be a good kick in the a... for me! :-)

I'm in for a build. It'll be one of a few posibilities... a race car hauler (or two), land speed record car, a steam car, or a F1 car. All I require are a start and end date

Let´s start soon! Cannot wait any longer.....

I´m gonna build a truck of the Chilean Marines, a FIAT CL 90 modified (in 1/35), using a Revell Gaz 66 as donor kit....

Cheers

EDIT: Names, that it´s going to be a good one

My runner ups:

"Box?, There wasn't a box!"
"Not for sale"
"Can't buy me love"

And Murdo´s "sprueless....but not cluless" (that was the name right?)
