I’m having a problem with the mouse on my computer and figured one of you guys with more computer knowledge might be able to help me out.

Half the time I try moving it around my computer starts beeping at me for a few seconds before moving which is really starting to bug me. Also a few times it has appeared to just die on me and not to anything. I can still see the computer doing stuff and the keys still work so its not just freezing. When this happens a few times its started working again after about a minute but usually I have to end up shutting it down. Of course when I start it back up the mouse dosn’t always work and I have to shut it back down and try again.
I’ve tried unplugging it and plugging it back in but this doesn’t seem to make a deferens.

I’ve also tried tossing it on the floor once but all that did was make the right butten a little stiffer I think.

Any one have any ideas what it might be and how to fix it?
Thanks.

Well, neighbor,
think it's time to get a new mouse, my friend!
You can try one thing though Jake...if your mouse is sticking, turn the thing over and on the bottom you'll see the ball part that rolls on your table...there should be a removable ring that will spin off, around the ball that holds it in, and then you can clean the ball and the contacts inside the mouse with a little alcohol...give it a shot mate, before bouncing the thing off the floor again! :-)

Thanks guys.

Gunny I’ll try cleaning it and see if that helps anything but it sounds like it probably wont.

Roderick I don’t know how old it is but we only got it a few years ago.
I’ve already checked for viruses and spyware with no effect so as soon as I get a chance I’ll try the other scans and let you guys know if it helps.
If not I’m not positive how to reinstall the drivers but I’ll try to figure that out and give it a go.

Just ran the defrag and error checker and didn’t solve the problem.
After that I tried to reinstall the mouse driver and I think I just deleted it or something. Completely killed the mouse and couldn’t figure out how to get it back in. Finally came across system restore and was able to restore it to last week. Mouse works again now but still beeps at me.

Alright then.
I’ll give it a try right now.

Edit: That was fast.
It says it can’t find any better match for my hardware.

Jacob:

Try going to the Manufacturers website, go to the downloads or support section of the site and redownload the latest drivers for your mouse.

Sadly I’m not positive what the manufacturers website is or what I would need to download.
All I know about the mouse is that its made by Sony Vaio.
It came with the computer and I can’t seem to find any papers for it.

I downloaded something but I think its just to help setup the way you move the mouse. Needless to say it was of no help.

I think I saw that the driver was last updated in 2001. don't know if thats good or bad.

Thanks I would appreciate anything you can find.

Its made by Sony Electronics inc.

I think the model number is UCV070XEUM intel(R) But this may be something else.

Don’t know if this would be helpful but it’s a
Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz

the mouse is made by Sony Vaio but has too many numbers on the back for me to tell which ones the model number.
It has the wheel thing in the middle and I belive is able to be used with a Playstation 2.

I’ll try to dig out more info in the morning.

Jacob, go to the link below and use the Option 2 boxes to try to locate your mouse driver:

Sony Peripherals

Failing that (if) go to this page and try the auto-detect to locate your drivers:

Thanks Ken.

Apparently I was wrong and the model number is PCV-RX850.
I went to that site and found updates for my computer but none of them appear to be for the mouse.
I did download a general update pack and I’m not positive but I think it helped some but the mouse still keeps beeping.

I apologize if I’m being a pain but I don’t know too much one it comes to computers.

Perhaps it may be time to get a new mouse. If you go to a computer store, they are cheap (under $10)

its alittle better.

I redid my C drive ( i don't know what the correct name for it is) and i think its working better now.
well the mouse compleatly died after doing that so i did it again but anyway.
only goten a few beeps out of it sofar but i think it may be a little slow. still have to put most of my stuff back into the computer so i'll get to see how its working.

i'm woundering if a damaged wire might be able to make it do this? what do you guys think.

any way if i stop coming around for a few days your know what happened.

Hi Jacob
I'm also naf with computers...BBC actually...Born Before Computers....but after all the wise advise given here I have to go with Brian The Dutchie; its time to buy a new one and send the current mouse to silicon heaven.
If the Sony is expensive to replace there are a few decent non-original ones available at affordable prices.

But I admit I had to, laugh at

I'm sure you'll sort it with the high caliber people we get on site.

Best of luck.
It'll ber interesting how it turns out..

Cheers

If you do any gaming, consider a trackball mouse with a thumb wheel. I have one on the puter at home and love mot having to move the mouse round. Also worth looking into is a cordless mouse. A receiver no larger than a little finger goes into a USB port and the mouse sends out a signal. I use this for my laptop. If you don't go with the thumbwheel, make sure you get an optical mouse, no more cleaning mouse balls.

That’s nothing. On my last computer I found out I could get it to work better when it was giving me trouble by kicking it. Worked half the time until one day that I knocked a wire loose and had to take it to a shop.
Stopped kicking it after that..... Well mostly :-)

Didn’t know they made wireless ones. About how much are they?
And what’s an optical mouse?

Jacob: Wireless ones run around $40 or so. Optical mice are mice without the trackball on the bottom. It has instead a read laser light.
