Hello Modelers,

Hope to see many of you and your work at the IPMS Nationals this August, 2006 in Kansas City. Two local groups are co-hosting the event. Nationals are always special due to the quality (and quantity) of the entries, the dealers, and the special evernts.
Tables are already sold out, but there is always enough Kansas City bar-b-que to go around.
Come on down!

i'll be there, sans any examples of my work! I thought it would be cool to be "wowed" by the excellence of others.

Only 39 days, an eight hour drive and I will be at the largest gathering of model builders in the free world. I was fortunate enough to go to Atlanta last year and meet up with several of the ArmorAma regulars, Anyone else going to be able to make it to KC? Hope to do a get together and maybe get a group pic like we did last year. Pretty cool putting faces with all of the names you see on a daily basis. So, any one planning the trek this year?

Hello everyone:

I'm so glad to hear that many of you, even further away
such as Tennessee are planning to visit our fair city
for the IPMS/USA National Convention at the Crown Center
Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Kansas City, Missouri
starting on Wednesday 2 Aug thru Sat. night
6 August when all the awards are announced. The
two local IMPS chapters who are sponsoring the KC
Nats are IPMS Great Plains on the Kansas side of the
city and IPMS West Central Missouri/Show Me State
Modelers Chapter on the Missouri side of the city. The
Hyatt hotel was sold out almost a month and a half ago
but they can give you the name/phone number of other
fine hotels that are close by. From the number of
entrants who have already registered on line (and the
on line registration closed yesterday, sorry) it looks
like a very large group of modelers will be hear from
all over the US, and some foreign countries. Kansas
City is a great restaurant town. We're world famous for
BBQ brisket, pork, ham and ribs and for our great
KC Strip steak eating places. And don't forget the
Country Club Plaza just about 10 minutes South from
the Convention site. Within walking distance from the
Convention is the Union Station which is currently
showing an exhibit from the Smithsonian on the
Presidential First Ladies. Just to the south is the WWI-
II Memorial which is newly renovated and loaded with
all kinds of artifax, murals, paintings of the two World
Wars. Both are less than 300 yards away.

And the wives, kids or/or girl/boyfriends are not left out,
either. There are events planned for you as well.
Go to the IPMS/USA web site and then to the 2006
National Convention for all kinds of info about the
event. If you've never been to Kansas City, you will
be pleasantly surprised. My home town features
the friendliest, most accomodating, and eager to
help group of locals you'll ever meet. You will notice
our friendliness right away.

I plan on being there, with wife in tow and look forward to meeting you all. Having never been to one of these shows before, I can say I don't know what to expect. I definately look forward to the BBQ as there is no place that can compare to KC
BTW anything going on with the Chiefs during this time?

I'll be there, entries still questionable & won't count here anyway because they only 2 that even have a chance to make it are aircraft !!

I see all this talk about great BBQ -- I didn't know eastern NC BBQ made out there !!! :-)

Actually we lived in Kansas for over 20 years, our son now works in KC, etc -- so this'll be a big visit for more reasons than the show. We're staying over a day to take in a Royals game -- yeah, it isn't 1980-ish but we're still fans -- we went out in JUky 2004 for Frank White's induction into the Royals HoF -- Frank's my hero !!!

Hi Dave:

Glad to hear that you and your group from Texas are also going to come
up for the IPMS Nats in Kansas City, Missoui. Hopefully, we can say
hello at the convention. KC is my home town.

BTW, what your group that you spoke of doing the "group build"(?): what
is the name of your group, chapter, etc.? It will make it easier for me
to find your display. Thanks,

Well first I wasn't going, but now I'm leaning the other way. Several guys in our local club are making the trip out from Atlanta and I've already been told I've got a seat if I choose to go. If I do go I'm looking forward to putting in a couple of volunteer hours if needed then just enjoying everything. As a member of one of the host clubs here in Atl. last year I had a blast, but I literally ran myself into the ground that week. It sounds like it will be a great time!

Hello Mike Land:

So you're from Atlanta, one of the truly great cities of the American Deep
South, host of our IPMS National Convention last year. Please excuse me
as I attempt to "wax poetic" but you see when someone mentions that
they would like to be a volunteer at the KC Nats, this year. . . wall, that
would be "Peachy" keen, you understand, to the KC conv. committee here
in the Heartland!! I will post below the addy for the part of our KC Nats
convention page in relation to those who would like to volunteer to help.
We would be very happy to welcome you, and as a volunteer as well. I
hope you'll be able to come. Most people who haven't been to KC in the
past 5 or 10 yrs. are surprised by what a wonderful place it is to visit. Here
is that web site for volunteers:

http://www.ipmsusa2006.org/Volunteer.php

Hope you can make it. And if you want a list of the hotels/motels near the
Crown Center Hyatt Regency where the conv. will be held just let me know
as I compiled that group of names for a California group of modelers
just two weeks ago. Of course, the Hyatt Conv. hotel filled up almost two
months or more, ago. Since we're in the center of the country, a lot of
states are very close by.

Kind regards,

Hey ho Miss Mary:

Oh that's right, you guys are gonna be at the Hyatt Regency all week.
You have my home phone number. I hope you might want to get together
for lunch and/or dinner in the first part of the week, before all the
activity starts re registration on noon 2 August when registration
opens for the first day. BTW, I believe you will be able to get
thru registration on Wednesday without a lot of hassle; as the first
day things are not USUALLY so hectic and crowded at the Nationals that
I've been to. Most attendees can't come in until Thursday evening or
even Friday for some who can't get off work early . At least, that is
my "opinion" at this point in time.

Registration closes for all models at 6pm on Friday 4 August.

BTW..we may be bringing an extra guest with us..My oldest son Brad..He is in the process now of talking things over with his father regarding staying on here with me for the upcoming school year!! He is 15 though so..not exactly a kid anymore:(. Anyway..so i hope that will still be ok as far as the lunch or dinner invite goes...

Wax away Rick! :-) Thanks for the info, I do know about the site and volunteer registration. I just didn't want to sign up still not being 100% sure I'll be there. I'm assumeing you guys will have something like what we did last year where willing characters can just walk in and sign up. So if I make it out I'll do it that way.
As for the hotel/motel list I would very much appreciate having that, I know I'm not the only one in this area who is contemplating going, or for sure going, that doesn't have a reservation yet. If you don't mind could you post it here, PM it to me, or if you want to e-mail it let me know and I'll PM you my e-mail addy, whichever is easiest for you.

Thanks,
Mike

Oh and by the way do you think we could get the moderator or a staff member to change the subject line so it reads IPMS instead of "IMPS"? I'm just nitpicking. :-)

Ah yes Kelly, I will PM you the hotel/motels close by info. Now since there
is quite a bit of text, PM me if it doesn't appear or isn't right. Then I'll email
it to you. Here I am an old retired newsman/artist and I didn't notice the
IMPS (IPMS) tpyo at the heading. I hope that is the worst thing that
happens with the KC event.

Howdy folks! Myself and a few others from the Colorado Springs area will be making the jaunt over east for the show. Thus far I have attended two nationals, Santa Rosa Ca, and Phoenix. I had a great time at both and am definitley looking forward to this one. Not sure if I am bringing any of my work though. I was involved with a group trying to get a project ready to enter, but not sure if it is going to come to fruition or not. My part of it is, but I can't say about the rest. Regardless, I got trunk space set aside for the vendor room goodies. You can look for me wearing a severely weathered orange and black Harley Davidson ball cap, and HD shirt of some sort or a black stetson with crossed sabres on it. Haven't decided which I'll wear......maybe both. Should be arriving sometime the evening of the 3rd (like most others) Maybe MiamiJayhawk could do some DJ services and make an announcement for us Big "A" members to gather or something. Looking forward to putting faces with names/callsigns. See ya'll there! "Q"

Hey Matthew:

Glad to hear that you and your group from Colorado Springs are comin
to Kansas City for the Nats. BTW, I've decided to have a name tag made
up with a picture of a Kansas University Jayhawk (graduate of 1960, oh
ma' gosh, that old? )on it and the words "The Miami Jayhawk." We
should be able to recognize each other since you're wearing a black
western hat. Lookin' forward to it.

Only two weeks to go!! I'm glad to see several members will be attending the convention. I received my ArmoramA t-shirt in the mail yesterday. I may take it to the guy down at our local mall and let him airbrush an AFV on the front, but I don't know what to put on it. I'll have to think on that awhile. I hope to meet as many of you as I can, maybe some of the locals can set up a specific time and place to meet up at. Don M.

Just an update on how I can be located at the convention. I'll be working with a good friend of mine at his booth helping with photographing models. The booth is for "Aerospace Modeler Magazine". I'll still more than likel have my severely weathered Harley Davidson hat on though, so drop by, say hi and introduce yourself! See you all in a couple weeks. "Q"

Re the IPMS/USA National Convention on 2 - 5 August , Kansas City,
and trying to recognize the gals and guys who will be coming that are
the members here on the Big A:

Last Monday I went to a printing company and had them laminate a
"graphic" with a Kansas Jayhawk mascot picture and the words printed
under the Jayhawk:

The Miami Jayhawk.
The name tag will be a small tag clipped on to my shirt color.
Maybe that will help. I figure I could wear my Jayhawk T-Shirts and ball
caps all four days but I think maybeeee the K-Staters and the
Mizzou Tiger fans won't be buying any of that. . .
