Did someone say Harmony Church? Hi ! My name is Rich, I'm new to this site. I was there in July '85, B-8-2 , (signed up a year before on "delayed entry"...three weeks after graduation I was in). After basic and AIT I went to Ferris Barracks,Erlangen Germany to the !st AD, 2-6 Infantry. Then in '87 it was back to Benning to the 197th Inf. BDE (the dollar 97!), Kelly Hill. It was the worst unit in the Army at the time, at least thats what most guys felt...

Welcome to the site. Yup, E-2-2 in May of '82. What part of New York are you in? It's hell finding a good hobby shop upstate or here in Manhattan.

Hey 18 bravo - I'm on Long Island, Suffolk county. Don't know of any in the city, but there are a few good ones on the Island. Baseline hobbies just moved out by me in Babylon, there's also Bayshore hobbies and Men at arms in Middle Island - but he does'nt have much at all. There are a few more scattered around Nassau and Suffolk counties but I'm not sure what they stock...the ones I mentioned are mostly armor. Baseline and Bayshore you have to stop in for, they're very good....later dude!

Yeah, I remember one or two good shops out there. I lived in Northport and Huntington (behind Walt Whitman's old house) and did a year at SUNY. Unfortunately won't be getting out there this time.

I spent my formative years on Long Island at Hofstra University in Hempstead, and worked at the Sears on Sunrise in Massapequa.

Then you should've typed "Lawn Guyland."

I was born within sight of Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, and I thank God every day I don't sound like it.

18 Bravo ...what's up? I do have a slight "hoidy - toidy accent but I definately don't say "Lawn-guyland"! Actually my parents were born and raised in Brooklyn but they don't have that strong accent anymore. I never realized how bad it sounded until I watched an episode of The Nanny with Fran Dresler while I was in Germany with my squad mates...I cringed. They asked me if everyone in NY sounded like that and I said no. Hey Sabot....I was in the 423rd MP company that used to drill right across the street from Hofstra, until they moved to Rocky Point. It's a small world!

I was there in the dorms when the bomb went off and took the front of the Roosevelt building off. Must have been early 1983. I had a few friends in that unit who were in ROTC with me at that time.
