Just curious as there are no posts that I can see. We had American football and the-rest-of-the-world football topics on here earlier this year and I thought things stayed civil.
Just wondering if anyone else was tuned in to the Winter Games while at the model bench? That "Flying Tomato" White kid is a hoot, dudes.

Actually Bob I meant to start as general "discuss the Games" topic yesterday and got side tracked. All I have to say is the only reason I watch the cross country skiing is for the pile up in the main straight.
(Oh wait, that is why I watch NASCAR)
Actually, I don't understand 90% of what is going on but I am amazed by the athletes. I can't imagine getting on a luge, a snowboard, or even skates for that matter.
Shaun
EDIT: Changed the topic title.

Personally I just don't find the Olympics all that exciting. In fact I'm already going through NFL Football withdrawls and NHL Hockey is on hold for a couple of weeks.

I however love it. I love it for the breakthroughs, the spills, everything. I've already seen three spills (two on the women's downhill). Breakthroughs: Shawn White...need I say more, but also just now (as I'm watching just now) Kelly Clark who despite a fall at the end, literally blurred the line between men's and women's half pipe. And thats just one day!
An month-long event that that has four years to wait for means the anticipation is great for me. Just imagine the superbowl of 15 sports (almost double that considering men's and women's competitions) coming once every four years! That applies for the summer Olympics too (which I'm partial to)! I am hyped.
Now if I can only convince my professors of this!

I must say I really like the winter Olympics. I probably wouldn't cross the street for the summer Olympics, but there is something about the winter ones.
I feel so bad for people like the ice skater, Onoh?, would trains for years then doesn't even make the cut for his event. Or Michele Kwan who drops out without ever winning an Olympic gold. I love it though when somebody comes out of nowhere, like I think a Canadian skier did yesterday, to win it all.

All I've seen so far is the womens hockey.Canada has played two games and has 28 goals for and 0 against.
I'm not an NHL hockey fan (Ya I know a CDN thats NOT !!)(over payed bums) but Olympic hockey is pretty good,to me anyways.

Ahhhh.......a man after my own heart. Last night after the Pro-Bowl was over I thought I was gonna cry.
Something I've always thought would be cool is if they'd combine that long ski jump thingy with some skeet shooting.
Just think about it.......some poor devil comes flying down the ramp at like 100mph and as he leaves the ramp and go's airborne, 10 guys lined up on either side of the landing zone start blasting away with 12 gauges. Now that would be some off da hook olympics!

Just a suggestion. IMHO, Senegal has more possibilities of medals than Spain - and yes, there is a Senegal team...Jim

Did you see the Chinese figure skater who crashed while attempting to land a quad sowcow toss and continued to skate the routine and then won the silver? Wow, she sure is tough for someone who must weigh no more than 68 pounds.

Sorry, but what's up with that? They
ed up their routine, stopped, came back, got a do over and get the silver? That's just BS. Even in dog agility if the dog misses a jump or does something out of turn, it's out of competition. EasyOff

I have always found the Winter Olympics much more exciting to watch than the Summer ones. What leaves me scratching my head is how now you can watch it all day and night it seems, yet I have less time to watch them.

Olympic Hockey's fun -- Those Canadian women are really tearing up the competition.
About the footbal -- Alan, you ought to check out Arena Football. Once you get used to the rules, it's pretty exciting. I went to the KC Brigade's home opener Sunday afternoon and had a blast. As is usual for arena ball, the game went right down to the last play.

I actually damn near thought for a moment she should get a gold. To get up from that and do that is amazing. To do it at such a high level of accomplishment that they did is stunning. I think the Silver was more than justified.

My wife certainly agrees with you Jeff. She is as blindly patriotic as anybody I've ever met. She will scream that an Ameircan is being slighted, while actively root for somebody from another country to fall. I don't always like it, but that's the way she is. She came to bed last night saying how fantastic it was that this couple got up and was not only able to finish, but get silver. I think she would have given them the gold for sure.

Does the hockey come on nbc or another station.
It'll either be NBC in the daytime or USA will air the men's. They don't play for a while though. I know the women's is being aired on USA in the daytime.

i think with the new scoring system they have in place is what allowed the chinese team to get the silver. it was awesome tho - olympic spirit- don't give up. shaun white is great!!!!! I like his style. Seems like a normal kid that loves his family, his sport and isn't letting it go to his head. haha ... except for that comment he was going to use his medal to try to get some chicks!!! woooo, go buddy!!!
I don't know that i'm necessarily rooting for US just because they are US - I thought the guy on the pairs figure skating was a goob.- you know the guy that looks like shelley long's ex husband in that movie Money Pit? He made some comment in an interview that made me roll eyes, so I really didn't care if he made it or not.
I think I like most of the sports of the winter olympics - summer it's definitely gymnastics and swimming.
