Ronny--here are a few I collected over the years:

---War is war, not a charm school event
It is not pleasant
It is not sensitive
Lay down a base of fire not sensitivity

----We believe in honor, courage, and commitment. We give of ourselves, to something that is bigger than ourselves. We give to our Nation, our Navy, and to one another.
ADM Vern Clark
CNO, 08.08.00h

?In the winter time, Caesar so trained his legions in all that became soldiers and so habituated them in the proper performance of their duties, that when in the spring he committed them to battle against the Gauls, it was not necessary to give them orders, for they knew what to do and how to do it.
This quotation expresses very exactly the goal we are seeking in this division. I know that we shall attain it and when we do. May God have mercy on our enemies; they will need it.?
George S Patton
1940, CG 2nd AD

In wartime, the degree of patriotism is directly proportional to the distance from the front
Phillip Caputo

Before you leave here, sir, you are going to learn that one of the most brutal things in the world is your average nineteen-year-old American boy
Phillip Caputo

That [state] which separates its scholars from its warriors
will have its thinking done by cowards, and its fighting by
fools.' ?
Thucydides, 'The Peloponnesian Wars'"

And, finally:
We must not be misled to our own detriment to assume that the untried machine can displace the proved and tried horse.
MG John K. Herr
Chief of Cavalry

From General Robert E. Lee:

"What a cruel thing is war: to separate and destroy families and friends, and mar the purest joys and happiness God has granted us in this world; to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbors, and to devastate the fair face of this beautiful world."

To that I add the succinct words of General William Techumseh Sherman:

"War is Hell."

This isn't really good for your purpose but its my favorite canadian quote. The germans demand surrender of a bunch of canucks "You english gentlemen are surrounded you must surrender" the canucks yell back "we arn't english, we arn't gentlemen and we arn't blankity blank going to surrender"

Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a difference in the world, but the Marines don't have that problem.
