 OK here's Murphy's Picks
1: SplendorLex (My last band, kinda Pixies meets Frank Zappa)
2: Dropkick Murphy's (Boston Irish Punk!)
3: Barrelhouse Chuck (Chicago Blues Piano, and a very good friend of mine)
4: Metallica ('cause it's Metallica, man!)
5: Steve Vai (not the best entertainer/songwriter, but the absolute god of gymnastic, alien-killing stunt guitar! He started at age 16 on the road with Frank Zappa as "the stunt guitarist")
Yes, a very diverse collection, I know.
A lot of German & French Armorama members might have heard of Barrelhouse Chuck, it seems he goes there all the time.
Well I gotta go listen to some music now...odd.

1 The Beatles - they started it all, and influenced everyone.
2 The Jimi Hendrix Experience - they changed the sound of Rock and Roll both live and recorded.
3 The Who - the energy they put into their performances paved the way for everybody else, not to mention the power of Pete Townsend's guitar
4 The Doors - the combination of the band's music (HIGHLY underrated IMHO!) applied to Jim Morrison's lyrics/singing was magic.
And just because they're so damn good,
5 The Allman Brothers Band - brought together the themes of Rock and the Blues, invented Southern Rock, and are as good today as they were 30 years ago, no mean feat considering the fact that they've lost BOTH guitar players (Duane Allman and Dickey Betts) as well as the bass player, Berry Oakley.
(And "The Fillmore Concerts" is actually the best live album ever recorded.)

Hi-
whilst I find it extremely difficult to narrow it down to five and my choices are probably based upon what I've been listening to lately, here goes:

Gong (including off-shoots Steve Hillage, Here & Now)
 Love
 Julian Cope
 various Kosmischemusik bands
 Rain Parade
Having said that I was listening to Caravan on the way into work today...
