& nothing in them does anyone get those? They scare me most of all - you can't filter them because there is nothing there.

Stuke,

I would get one every blue moon or so, but yes here lately I get several a day - today alone I have received over 20.

Frankly, the only way to beat them is if the sender usn't in your address book, it gets shuffled off elsewhere.

I do SMTP/POP off several accounts into OE. Most accounts have spam filtering but I don't trust them to have the address book to filter from because I might loose a new sender email.

On my side, I have Norton, then I have a set of rules that sort incoming into folder by sender -- any sender not in those rules goes into a junkmail box -- a quick look then hit delete ...

After you've trained Norton & "trained" the rules, then handle 99% with no trouble. But I also have to say my ISP's do a great job as first line defense, picking off 60-70% of the junk before it ever gets to me ... Norton & my OE rules handle the other 30-40% ....

If you don't take control of your Inbox, you're screwed ...

My standard rule of thumb is : if I don't know the name, I don't open it......
So far my spam filters..... and that rule has been working fine.
OH, my mail program has a nice little "bounce to sender" feature......

I get those as well. I use a couple of spam filtering programs and they do a pretty good job. Still, it's hassle.

What really gets on my nerves are messages that appear to come from me. It is hard to filter those out. Spammers are getting more sophisticated as time goes by.

-then there are the ones "hey Vadstar or Vadir or Vador" on and on and on. - or the ones that start off with "re:" in the subject form someone you have never heard of... - and my favorite the ones that make absolutely no sense at all with a suject just full of random letters like "want to erwtqfdgwet tonight with tglhoertasre?"

huh? :-)

do you have your email address added to your profiel? Because that's asking for trouble IMO. Scum as spammers are, if you put your email out in the open you are making it to easy for them. Bit like the old spare key under the mat... . I don't give my email to anybody unless I "know who they are", which works well so far. Also have my Firewall and Virus Checker, spamfilters etc set to the most aggresive settings to still allow Armorama to come in. Knock on wood, I don't get spam mail.

If some body on the street would ask for your address, would you just give it to them?

Let's be carefull out there..

Well, the emails I started off asking about can't be filtered or blocked. As far as removing my email adrress from my profile - I could have sworn that there was a post made by Staff_Jim about how he was going to "remove" a couple of accounts because they did not have an email address in their profile or something to that extent. It was within the last 7 months or so.

No, I mean do you have your email address displayed in the 'members list' ? I checked, and you have. So has peacekeeper...
This is an option in your profile, to display your email or not. The missing emails Jim was refering to is when you open your account. He needs your email address to make sure all is above board, but that (account)info is not shared with anybody. Your profile is what you make of it, and displaying your email is like leaving the spare key under the mat..
